BBC horror movie with whopping 95% Rotten Tomatoes score hailed as an 'underrated masterpiece' and 'pure cinematic gold' as it's made free to stream

A horror movie with a whopping 95% Rotten Tomatoes score has been hailed as an 'underrated masterpiece'. The thriller, titled Housebound, premiered back in 2014 and sees a young woman, Kylie (Morgan O'Reilley) who was placed under house arrest in her childhood home, according to the synopsis. However, Kylie suspects an evil presence may be hiding within the house. Directed by Gerard Johnstone, who was also behind the 2023 hit horror film M3gan, Housebound is available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer. After being around for over a decade, the spine-tingling movie has collected a lot of praise during its time on screens and has an impressive 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans have raved over the film and even dubbed it 'pure cinematic gold', with many taking to the review site to leave their thoughts. One penned: 'Such an underrated masterpiece! Housebound is easily in my top 3 favourite movies of all time simply for it's originality, humour, and unpredictability. 'I wish I could go back in time and watch it for the first time again. Going from thinking it was a ghost story, to a home invader story, to a this crazy girl is seeing things story, then back again was an absolutely delicious unicorn that almost never happens with todays predicable garbage. Pure cinematic gold.' 'If you are in the mood for a suspense filled who done it with a splash of dark English humour then you came to the right place. That's about all I will say other than this. Enjoy.' While someone else wrote: 'This movie is the epitome of why i couldn't sleep alone in the dark or walk home alone at night as a kid.' 'Such a good film. Well made. New movies have lost their touch. I wish they make more movies exactly like this one. Great great great.' 'This is the reason I love independent horror of my favourites I've seen the past few years. Awesome!' But not everyone has been impressed and someone else said: 'Not sure why people thought it was so funny, or scary, didn't laugh much at was kind of ridiculous and more surprised I didn't turn it off.' It comes as another horror film, titled Longlegs, proved to be a hit with fans too. Fans have raved over the film and even dubbed it 'pure cinematic gold', with many taking to the review site to leave their thoughts But not everyone has been a fan of Housebound and one even dubbed it as 'ridiculous' on Rotten Tomatoes Available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, Longlegs boasts an impressive rating of 86 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned more than $100 million at the box office, from a budget of just $10m. M3GAN 2.0 Director Explains Film is Drawing Inspiration From James Cameron's TERMINATOR 2 — GeekTyrant

M3GAN 2.0 comes more killer doll chaos, but this time with a surprisingly familiar influence. Director Gerard Johnstone, who helmed the first film, is back in the chair, and he's not shy about the inspiration guiding the sequel. In fact, he's taking a page right out of James Cameron's playbook with Terminator 2: Judgment Day , to be specific, and once you hear his reasoning, it makes sense: Johnstone recently sat down with Empire and laid it out saying: 'We saw the path James Cameron took with Terminator 2. If part of the jokey inspiration for the first M3GAN was that it was supposed to be our version of The Terminator, but with a lethal doll instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger, then it felt right that the sequel would be Terminator 2: Judgment Day. We knew that M3GAN had to meet a nemesis potentially more powerful than she is.' T2 is widely considered one of the best sequels ever made as it did a great job expanding on its original story while flipping its lead character's role. Just like how Schwarzenegger's T-800 switched sides from villain to protector, M3GAN 2.0 will reportedly do the same with its own AI diva. The new antagonist is an even smarter, potentially more dangerous artificial intelligence named Amelia. This new dynamic looks like silly fun from the trailer that was released, and it looks like it will be filled with unhinged mayhem. I'm sure some audiences will enjoy watching a murderbot with sass evolve into a would-be hero. I imagine that there's probably a few twists in the story that we'll learn about while we watch it. Screenwriter Akela Cooper is also back for the sequel. The first M3GAN worked because it balanced horror with humor and a healthy dose of tech-world satire. With the same core creative team steering the ship and some high-caliber sci-fi influence riding shotgun, there's a solid chance M3GAN 2.0 could end up being a entertaining sequel. We'll just have to wait and if this movie ends with a molten pit and a thumbs-up from a robot doll.

Blumhouse Drops Horror Hit ‘M3GAN' in Full on YouTube

Blumhouse just posted its horror film 'M3gan' to watch entirely free on YouTube. As a way to promote the upcoming sequel 'M3gan 2.0' releasing this summer, the Blumhouse X account fired off a tweet with the entirety of the first film available to watch right then and there. 'Well isn't today your lucky day,' the account said. 'Our legal team let us post the entire 'M3GAN' movie. Enjoy!' Well isn't today your lucky day? Our legal team let us post the entire M3GAN movie. Enjoy! — Blumhouse (@blumhouse) April 28, 2025 The 2023 horror film followed a lifelike doll run by a sophisticated AI meant to be the perfect companion to children. That's just what M3GAN does – until she transitions into a murderous rampage. The movie was a shocking hit for Blumhouse and earned mostly positive reviews and grossed over $180 million at the worldwide box office on a meager $12 million budget. The sequel to the hit is once again helmed by the first's director Gerard Johnstone and is based on a screenplay co-written by him and 'M3GAN' screenwriter Akela Cooper. 'M3GAN 2.0' brings back Allison Williams' Gemma as the creator of the robot who is forced to reboot M3GAN (played again by Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) after a new robot named Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno) goes rogue and begins hunting down everyone involved with the creation of the original bot. 'I'll admit: There were some bugs in my programming,' M3GAN says to her creator in clips for the sequel. The trailer pitches the showdown as 'this b—h vs. that b—h.' 'M3GAN 2.0' hits theaters on Friday, June 27. The post Blumhouse Drops Horror Hit 'M3GAN' in Full on YouTube appeared first on TheWrap.
