Toronto man charged with assault, threatening to shoot dog: police
Toronto police cruisers are seen in this file photo. (Simon Sheehan/CP24) A Toronto man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted someone and threatened to shoot a dog in Riverside, police say. It happened at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the area of Gerrard Street and Logan Avenue. According to police, the suspect and an individual became involved in a verbal altercation at that time. The suspect then assaulted the victim and threatened to shoot a dog. It's unclear if the victim sustained any injuries or who the dog belongs to. The suspect allegedly fled before officers arrived at the scene. Police didn't say if the suspect knows the victim. John Joseph Baer McNamara, a 53-year-old Toronto resident, was subsequently arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, two counts of breach of probation, fail to comply with a release order, and uttering threats/animals or birds. Police are asking anyone with information about the alleged assault to contact them at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

40-year-old Toronto man wanted for assault and mischief, police say
40-year-old Steven Mosquera, of Toronto is wanted for assault and mischief on Wednesday May 21, 2025 (TPS photos). Toronto police are searching for a man they say is wanted for an alleged assault in the city's east end Wednesday morning. Officials say the incident happened at around 12 a.m. in the area of Gerrard Street East and Victoria Park Avenue. It came in the wake of a dispute between the suspect and the victim that occurred several days prior on May 18, police say. It's alleged the suspect assaulted the victim during an argument before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect, who police identified as 40-year-old Steven Mosquera, of Toronto is wanted for assault and mischief. He's described as five-foot-nine with a medium build and dark brown hair, and was last seen wearing a dark-coloured sweater and blue jeans. Police are asking anyone with information to contact 416-808-5500, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Overnight DVP closures in effect this week for bridge rehabilitation
A portion of the Don Valley Parkway is seen. (CTV News Toronto) Closures on the Don Valley Parkway this week could cause headaches for early-morning commuters and late-night drivers. Starting tonight at 11 p.m., the northbound lanes of the Toronto highway will be reduced to one lane at Gerrard Street before they reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning. The nightly lane closures extend until Friday as crews complete painting work as part of the Gerrard Street East bridge. The Dundas Street and Queen Street on-ramps top the DVP will also be closed during that time. In addition to the job at the Gerrard Street bridge, crews will also be at the Eastern/Adelaide bridges completing rehabilitation work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The southbound DVP off-ramp to Richmond Street will be closed tonight from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Southbound traffic between Dundas Street and south of Eastern Avenue will also be reduced to two lanes. On Wednesday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound DVP on-ramp from Eastern Avenue will be closed and the southbound lanes on the highway will be reduced to two between Dundas and Eastern. Northbound lanes will also be reduced to two between Eastern and Queen. Thursday night will see closures during the same time at the northbound DVP on-ramp from Eastern. The northbound DVP lanes from Eastern and Queen will also be reduced.
