Overnight DVP closures in effect this week for bridge rehabilitation

Closures on the Don Valley Parkway this week could cause headaches for early-morning commuters and late-night drivers.
Starting tonight at 11 p.m., the northbound lanes of the Toronto highway will be reduced to one lane at Gerrard Street before they reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.
The nightly lane closures extend until Friday as crews complete painting work as part of the Gerrard Street East bridge.
The Dundas Street and Queen Street on-ramps top the DVP will also be closed during that time.
In addition to the job at the Gerrard Street bridge, crews will also be at the Eastern/Adelaide bridges completing rehabilitation work on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The southbound DVP off-ramp to Richmond Street will be closed tonight from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Southbound traffic between Dundas Street and south of Eastern Avenue will also be reduced to two lanes.
On Wednesday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., the northbound DVP on-ramp from Eastern Avenue will be closed and the southbound lanes on the highway will be reduced to two between Dundas and Eastern. Northbound lanes will also be reduced to two between Eastern and Queen.
Thursday night will see closures during the same time at the northbound DVP on-ramp from Eastern. The northbound DVP lanes from Eastern and Queen will also be reduced.

Kids and 'big kids' got to check out the City of Ottawa's front loaders, street sweepers, an interactive traffic signal display, and a hydraulic crane truck. 'This is a wonderful opportunity for our teams to showcase the work we do, the equipment we use for this work to our public. We love seeing all the kids and the families out here,' said Bryden Denyes, area manager for road services at City of Ottawa The event was part of Doors Open Ottawa, where the public is able to have a peak inside parts of the city that are often closed to the outside. 'It's great just to have somewhere to bring kids where they can bring some energy, learn some new things, touch everything, have new experiences. It's awesome. They can learn about what these vehicles do for the city as well,' said Britany Caron, attending with her son. The public even had an opportunity to climb into the driver's seat and check out the inside. 'Pretty fun. I did a lot of the switches, and I loved the buttons,' said Leo, who was having fun at the expo with his parents. The expo was there to show kids all the possibilities of what they can be in the future and hopefully broaden their imagination. Many children have miniature versions of these big rides at home but now get to see how big they really are. 'Our residents' families can come out and see a snowplow. They can see our forestry teams, what equipment they use for that, how we paint roads, how we pick up garbage,' said Denyes. City staff and support people were on site to explain how the work is done and to answer all their questions and provide information.
