Friendly health walk leaders needed to help others enjoy a wander in Wishaw
Get Walking Lanarkshire is looking for people to join the Thursday afternoon walk. If you enjoy getting out in the fresh air for a walk and have a friendly nature then you could help others go out for a stroll and become more active. Get Walking Lanarkshire is looking for more walk leaders in Wishaw, for the already existing Thursday afternoon walk from the Houldsworth Centre. A partnership project between NHS Lanarkshire, Walking Scotland, and North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire councils, the project aims to improve health and wellbeing of residents in Lanarkshire. Health walks are free, short and easy weekly walks, lasting no longer than an hour, aimed at people who would benefit from becoming more active. Potential walk leaders need no previous experience, just a friendly nature and the availability to lead a walk on a regular basis. Free training will be provided. Other benefits include meeting new people, improving your own health and wellbeing and seeing walkers improve too. For more info about becoming a health walk leader, contact Get Walking Lanarkshire on 07903 358424 or getwalkinglanarkshire@ * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. North Lanarkshire Council urging people to mark May's National Walking Month
North Lanarkshire Council is urging people to pound the pavements, paths and trails to mark May's National Walking Month. Walking is a great way to become more active as it is free, low impact, requires no special equipment and pace and distance can easily be increased. It suits people of all ages and abilities and is also a handy way to keep exercise levels topped up for people with busy lives - just walk out of your front door and you are on your way. The benefits of walking for health and wellbeing are extensive. It's good for heart and lungs, bones and muscles, strength and balance. It also improves mood, reduces stress and leads to better sleep and is very sociable; walking and talking at the same time go together very well. Get Walking Lanarkshire organises a programme of free health walks across North and South Lanarkshire . The weekly walks are easy, last no longer than an hour and go at a gentle pace. They are suitable for all ages and abilities and are particularly suitable for people who are looking to become a bit more active. The walks are very friendly and most groups go to a café after the walk for a cuppa and a chat. If you'd like to come along, book for your first walk. If you'd like to help others to become more active, then why not become a volunteer health walk leader? No previous experience is required, just a friendly nature and enthusiasm for walking. Free training will be provided. To book for your first walk or to enquire about volunteering, email getwalkinglanarkshire@ or call 07903 358424. The health walks programme can be found online. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here . And did you know Lanarkshire Live had its own app?
