Irish Politician Describes Israel's Military Campaign in Gaza as ‘Barbaric'
A video went viral on social media showing Irish Politician Barry Andrews condemning Israel's war in Gaza and describing Netanyahu's campaign as 'barbaric'. Andrews noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his war in Gaza was a battle against barbarism. However, the civilized world has concluded that Israel is the one who conducted a campaign of barbarism, acceding to Andrews. 'A majority of European countries have finally concluded that it is barbaric to use starvation as a weapon of war,' Andrews added. He also described the statement of Bezalel Smotrich, Israeli Minister of Finance, regarding ethnic cleansing in Gaza as 'barbaric'. @palestinegaza11357 ♬ son original – palestinegaza11357 Meanwhile, Andrews called 'Gideon's Chariots' operation as 'barbaric' and blatant violation of the international humanitarian law. 'But we cannot just focus on access for aid, we also have to make sure that violence has to come to an end,' he added. What hostage has ever been released as a result of a military action? And today we read that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fired warning shots at French diplomats and others visiting the West Bank,' he said. 'If this is the way European diplomats are treated, imagine how Palestinians are treated in the West Bank,' the politician said. At the end of his speech, Andrews said that it was unavoidable to conclude that it was the IDF that was conducting a barbaric campaign. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 53,500 Palestinians and wounded more than 118,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Gaza hit by 75+ airstrikes in 24 hours
Shafaq News/ Israeli forces launched more than 75 airstrikes across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours under the ongoing 'Gideon's Chariots' operation, the Israeli military announced on Friday. In a statement, the army reported that targets included rocket launch sites, weapons depots, sniper positions, and several command centers. Ground operations also continue in coordination with military intelligence and the Shin Bet internal security agency. — افيخاي ادرعي (@AvichayAdraee) May 23, 2025 Meanwhile, Gaza's Health Ministry reported that 107 people were killed and 247 injured in the latest round of strikes. The humanitarian situation remains severe. After nearly three months of restricted access, the United Nations confirmed the entry of 198 aid trucks through the Kerem Shalom crossing—the largest delivery since Israel imposed an 11-week blockade. An additional 90 trucks were retrieved overnight to accelerate distribution. Despite this, relief agencies confirmed that the delivery remains heavily constrained by continued hostilities. In Deir al-Balah, six members of volunteer security teams were killed while escorting an aid convoy. Gaza's media office accused Israeli forces of enabling looting by targeting those guarding humanitarian supplies. International concern over the escalating toll has prompted a rare joint statement from France, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The three governments condemned Israel's military campaign, warning of possible consequences if hostilities persist and humanitarian access is not restored. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by accusing the leaders—Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, and Mark Carney—of exerting pressure that could undermine Israel's security. He also warned that easing military pressure could allow Hamas to regroup, mounting further attacks similar to those carried out on October 7. Since that date, 53,762 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Tens of thousands have been injured, over 11,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

'Every child in Gaza is the enemy': Far-right Israeli lawmaker's remarks spark row
As the war in Gaza rages on, far-right Israeli minister Moshe Feiglin's recent remarks on the Palestinian territory and Israel's military operation have sparked outrage. Speaking to Israeli TV Channel 14, the far-right lawmaker referred to each child in Gaza as the "enemy." "The enemy is not Hamas, nor is it the military wing of Hamas. Every child in Gaza is the enemy. We need to occupy Gaza and settle it, and not a single Gazan child will be left there. There is no other victory," the former member of parliament stated. Feiglin's remarks reiterate the stance taken by many far-right Israeli leaders. Since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, several far-right leaders have called for an increase in Israeli settlements in West Bank and along the border in Gaza as part of an effort to take over the Palestinian territory. Earlier this week, Israel announced that it aims to take "full control" of Gaza as it launched its operation 'Gideon's Chariots' which has been criticised by countries such as the UK, France, Spain, Canada and Qatar. Feiglin's comments on every Gazan child being the enemy comes after Yair Golan, a retired IDF deputy chief of staff accused Israel of "killing babies as a hobby." "Israel is on the way to becoming a pariah state, like South Africa was, if we don't return to acting like a sane country. A sane country does not fight against civilians, does not kill babies as a hobby, and does not engage in mass population displacement," said Golan. Golan's remarks were met by a rebuttal from prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated that the retired IDF office remarks are a "wild incitement" and "blood libel." As per data released by the Palestinian Education Ministry in April 2025, over 17,000 children have been killed in the Gaza strip since the start of the war in October 2023. More than 17,000 children have been martyred in Gaza, a figure that reflects the depth of the tragedy children are enduring, with each number representing a life, memories, and experiences lost," read the official statement issued by the ministry. Furthermore, the UN recently warned that around 14,000 babies in the Gaza strip could be killed in the war-torn strip due to Israel's blockade on humanitarian aid.

I watched mum take final breath waiting for help after Israel missile hit school – I lost my leg & now need prosthetic
OVER the past 19 months of war in Gaza it can be easy to get lost in the sea of horrific details that have emerged nearly every single day. However, one in particular stands out — the number of Advertisement 5 There have been 4,700 amputation cases in Gaza over the past 19 months Credit: Getty Images - Getty 5 Rosamond Bennett spoke to some of those impacted 5 Gaza has the 'largest cohort of child amputees in modern history' Credit: Getty Images - Getty Figures show that there have been 4,700 amputation cases, including 850 children. UNOCHA said that Gaza has the 'largest cohort of child amputees in modern history'. Christian Aid Ireland's local Gaza partner Palestinian Centre for Human Rights recently documented testimonies from women and girls who lost limbs due to attacks by the Here, Rosamond Bennett, Chief Executive Officer of Christian Aid Advertisement Read more on Gaza TEENAGER Leila (not her real name) is one of the girls who lost a limb due to an attack. Displaced time and time again, the 17-year-old's family were living in a school-turned-shelter in northern Gaza when their lives changed forever. Leila recalled: 'On December 14, 2024, my life was shattered. As I walked past the school's administrative office, a deafening explosion rang out. An Israeli missile struck the corridor just metres away. The force of the blast knocked me to the ground. 'We waited 30 agonising minutes for an ambulance — as if time had frozen — while I watched my mother take her final breaths.' Advertisement Most read in The Irish Sun The blast severed one of Leila's legs and badly wounded the other. In the following weeks, she underwent four surgeries on her left leg and one on her right. Her hopes for the future are simple. She said: 'Since my injury, I've had one dream: to receive a prosthetic limb. Dramatic moment Israel launches fresh airstrikes in major operation 'Gideon's Chariots' to 'seize and control' Gaza 'Without it, my life is nearly impossible. I can't carry anything while walking, and I rely on crutches to move. 'Under the constant strain of forced displacement, even the crutches become an obstacle, making movement more painful and difficult. I don't ask for much — only for the war to end and for the Israeli occupation to allow me to travel for treatment.' Advertisement PCHR also spoke to 19-year-old Lama, who was newlywed just 40 days before the war began. In January, the couple was asleep when a shell from an Israeli tank struck their apartment. Lama said: 'We were on the fourth floor, but the force of the explosion threw me and my husband 40 metres away from the building. When our neighbours came to rescue us, they found my husband and me in the yard of a nearby house." LEG SEVERED Lama lost consciousness before being taken to hospital. When she came to, she realised that her left leg had been severed in the blast. She recalled: 'I tried to sit up on the hospital bed and bend my left leg without realising what had happened to it. For a moment, I thought it was still there. I looked at my right leg and saw platinum plates implanted in it, in a desperate attempt to save it from amputation. Advertisement 'Amid the overwhelming number of injured and the lack of necessary medical resources to stop the bleeding, I was considered nothing more than a body awaiting to be pronounced dead.' Despite their best attempts, doctors later had to amputate Lama's right leg to prevent septicaemia from setting in. PROSTHETICS HOPE Both Lama and Leila hope to travel abroad to get prosthetic limbs. PCHR has long worked to support patients who require emergency treatment to apply for permits for medical evacuation. However, they were forced to suspend this work last year following the Israeli military incursion and closure of crossings. Advertisement Right now, between 10,500 and 12,500 patients in Gaza remain in need of medical evacuation. Compounding the situation amputees face has been Israel's prevention of all aid and commercial supplies from entering Gaza since the start of March, making anaesthetic, painkillers and medical aids like crutches scarce. According to PCHR, the shortage of medical staff and equipment has left doctors performing amputations on patients who could otherwise have been treated and have their limbs saved. HEALTH SYSTEM ON BRINK With Gaza's health system on the brink of collapse under the unrelenting bombardment, it's incredibly difficult to provide medical follow-up, which can hamper amputees' recovery. Rosamond said: 'In a blink of an eye, the lives of these women and girls were changed forever. Advertisement 'Their injuries have caused untold physical and psychological harm and they need specialist support. 'Israel must open up all crossings so all those in need of medical evacuation, including amputees, can get the treatment and rehabilitative care they need. 'Israel must also immediately end its weaponisation of aid and allow all goods and supplies, including much-needed medicines and medical equipment, to enter Gaza.' 5 Gaza's health system on the brink of collapse under the unrelenting bombardment Credit: Getty Images - Getty Advertisement 5 Between 10,500 and 12,500 patients in Gaza remain in need of medical evacuation Credit: Getty Images - Getty
