Texarkana Police Explorer program halted over misconduct claims

TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – 32-year-old Zackary Gilley was arrested and placed on administrative leave on Monday on charges including two counts of sexual assault of a child. Louisiana conference tackles human trafficking prevention According to a probable cause affidavit, the case involves a 15-year-old taking part in the Texarkana, Texas Police Department Explorer Program, which mentors young people interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Investigators believe it began at the start of last year when Gilley told his mentee that he had a crush on them and that they had to pinky promise not to tell anyone, the minor said this interaction made them uncomfortable. The document details an escalating series of inappropriate behavior and sexual contact Gilley allegedly committed during ride-alongs. Survivor Lindsey Rayl shares story of human trafficking In light of this incident, TTPD says they are pausing the Explorer program.'We've made the decision to pause our explorer post activities while we take a thorough look at the program. The safety of the young people involved is absolutely our top priority, and this review will help us make sure the program is not only meeting that standard, but also providing the kind of positive, meaningful experience that it's meant to provide,' says Shawn Vaughn with TTPD. Gilley was released after posting a $600,000 bail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

‘Complete transformation': Popular boat launch reopens in Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After years of planning, a boat launch along Old Hickory Lake has a new look. Sanders Ferry Boat Ramp in Hendersonville now has three new boating docks, plus a renovated ramp. The park itself has long been a go-to spot for residents and tourists. 'There are over 100,000 people that visit this park per year. A lot of that is for this boat ramp,' said Hendersonville Parks Director Andy Gilley. 'For a long time it was a hidden gem that we kind of kept to ourselves, but during COVID, Sanders Ferry became open to everyone. We have every event you can think of here, it is a focal part of our parks department, it is a major major part of our city.' Hendersonville Parks & Recreation reserves parking spots exclusively to honor military veterans The TWRA-led upgrade is part of a larger state initiative, named in honor of beloved fisherman and former TV host Bill Dance. It's geared towards increasing visitation to Tennessee lakes. In a state filled with natural beauties, replacing boat docks may seem like a minute task, but local leaders believe it will enhance the experience and broaden the tourist appeal along Old Hickory Lake. 'These are much longer [docks] and they extend out,' explained Gilley. 'These would be what you call tournament docks. So before it was even open, we already had calls from out-of-state people wanting to bring fishing tournaments here. We're going to see high school state championship fishing tournaments here, professional tournaments… but the biggest winner here is the city of Hendersonville residents, who are here every day.' ⏩ Gilley called the renovation a 'complete transformation,' as the original docks and boat ramp had been in-use at Sanders Ferry since the 1980s and '90s. He hopes their other popular boat ramps will soon get the funding needed for renovations. 'It opens this part of the lake up a lot more so you can enjoy it,' said Hendersonville Vice Mayor Mark Skidmore. 'There's a lot of skiing and fishing and just having fun, (and) that's what brings a lot of people here. And once you're here, you're not going to leave.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Iowa baseball shutout by Indiana to close Big Ten Tournament Pool Play

Iowa baseball shutout by Indiana to close Big Ten Tournament Pool Play After a 4-3 victory over No. 10-seed Rutgers on Wednesday, No. 2-seed Iowa baseball (33-21-1, 21-9 Big Ten) dropped a 5-0 loss vs. No. 6-seed Indiana (32-25, 16-14) to close out its two-game pool play action in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. With the Hawkeyes' Wednesday victory clinching them a spot in Saturday's semifinal, Thursday night's game was essentially meaningless regarding the Big Ten Tournament. With that being said, Iowa sent Benjamin DeTaeye to start on the mound, where he gave up three runs on one hit, walked three, and struck out four over 2 1/3 innings of work. "DeTaeye gave us a good start," said head coach Rick Heller. "He was really good the first two innings, and his pitch count was down, so we decided to go a third inning. He strikes out the first guy, then he walks two to get to Taylor, and on the first pitch, he hits a home run, and we are down three runs on one hit." Five other Hawkeye pitchers made appearances on the mound. The pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits and 12 free bases. Due to Thursday's game being void of any significance, the Hawkeyes were able to use it as a "bullpen game" and rest their starters ahead of the semifinal. "For the most part, the rest of the guys did a pretty decent job," said Heller. "We worked out of a couple jams." In terms of the offense, Iowa's biggest threat to score came in the first inning, but the Hawkeyes left the bases loaded. Iowa would total five hits throughout the game and batted .152 overall, stranding nine base runners. "Offensively, we knew it was going to be a challenging night with Gilley and Grable both able to throw," said Heller. "Gilley gave us a chance in the first to jump out on top with the bases loaded. We had an opportunity with a runner on third and less than two outs, and we didn't get him home. We hit a lot of fly balls, which is pretty uncharacteristic for this team, and it led to a lot of 1-2-3 innings." The Hoosiers took the lead in the third inning with a three-run shot to right field and added two more in the fourth to make it 5-0. Iowa had its first extra-base hit of the tournament when Gable Mitchell doubled in the eighth inning. Caleb Wulf was the lone Hawkeye to have a multi-hit game, with two of Iowa's five total hits on the night. The Hawkeyes' next game will be the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, when they will play the No. 2-seed and No. 13-ranked UCLA (43-15, 22-8) from Charles Schwab Field. The game will be on the Big Ten Network and start at approximately 6 p.m. CT. In addition to the telecast, fans can listen to the action through the Hawkeyes Radio Network alongside play-by-play voice John Leo and color analyst John Evans.
