Former Wisconsin basketball forward signs professional contract to play overseas
Former Wisconsin basketball forward Carter Gilmore has signed a contract to play professional basketball overseas. The program confirmed via social media on Monday that the five-year Badger inked a deal with the Den Helder Suns of the Netherlands' BNXT League. Advertisement The Suns have been playing at the top level of Netherlands basketball since their founding in 2016. The team most recently went 12-24 in 2024-25, finishing 15th (of 19 teams) in the league standings and failing to qualify for the playoffs. While the Suns were far from the league's best, the 12-win output tied a franchise-best. Gilmore is set to start his professional basketball career after somewhat of a breakthrough campaign with the Badgers in 2024-25. He averaged 19.1 minutes, 3.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest, operating as one of the team's key bench contributors. His best showings were a 10-point, five-rebound, five-assist game against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, a 10-point, three-rebound effort in a win over Indiana and, most notably, a career-best 15-point, seven-rebound game against Northwestern. Gilmore originally joined the Badgers as a preferred walk-on ahead of the 2020-21 season. He was awarded a scholarship before the 2021-22 campaign, then went on to emerge as one of the program's key contributors. Wisconsin will have to fill the void left by Gilmore's departure next season, especially after top backup forward Xavier Amos entered the transfer portal. The Badgers may still have a final move to make to bolster their depth at the position. The missing of a simple putt for a birdie on the par-four 13th at Royal Portrush led Scheffler to channel his inner Adam Sandler and blow his lid, albeit jokingly, at the ball. 3 Scottie Scheffler missed an easy putt on the par-four 13th at Royal Portrush Credit: Getty 3 The World No.1 channelled his inner 'Happy Gilmore' after missing the sitter Scheffler's putt went agonisingly to the left of the hole and prompted the American to raise his hands in frustration. He then, in 'Happy Gilmore' style, turned to the ball with his arms stretched out as if he was asking why it didn't go in. The World No.1 clearly saw the funny side of the miss before tapping home to record a par. He may have channelled his inner 'Happy Gilmore' with his hand gestures and body language, but Scheffler didn't go the whole nine yards. Stephon Gilmore names five players to create dream all-time secondary
Former New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore revealed his dream secondary during a recent appearance on The Money Down Podcast. The unit would include himself, two safeties and two other cornerbacks from any generation. Gilmore chose Deion Sanders and Ronde Barber as the other two corners on the roster. At safety, he went with Ed Reed and Rod Woodson to complete the Hall of Fame secondary. "I got to go with Deion on the other side, Primetime. I gotta go with Ed Reed at free. Let me see, strong safety—I could go Rod Woodson," said Gilmore. "Nickel, who was a nice nickel? I need somebody that's smart in there, that's physical. It's only one nickel that's in the Hall of Fame—from Tampa, Ronde Barber." That secondary would have 39 Pro Bowl nominations between them all. It would be any quarterback's worst nightmare to throw against. Imagine that group going against Tom Brady and the greatest collection of receiving talent throughout NFL history. Gilmore recently named the toughest receivers he's faced in his NFL career. It would be a dream matchup for the ages. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

The drop leads into the highly anticipated sequel, which hitsNetflixon July 25.For those who need a refresher,Adam Sandler'sHappy Gilmorewas a failed hockey player turned unconventional golf star. Known for his monster drives and spiky attitude, his real statement piece was a hockey stick putter—something of a gimmick turned signature weapon. So, is this new release actually playable? Probably not. The $500 USD price tag and novelty build suggest it's more of a collector's item than a performance upgrade, thoughCallaway's sitehas plenty of those if that's what you're after. The Chrome Tour golf balls included in the drop, priced at $60 per dozen, lean further into the nostalgia. Each sleeve features phrases like 'Just tap it in' and 'It's all in the hips,' nods to some of the film's most quotable lines. Happy Gilmore fans can now buy a real hockey stick putter for $500
Callaway Golf has released a limited edition hockey stick golf putter in celebration of the July 25 premiere of Happy Gilmore 2. The golf club and matching golf ball set, inspired by the forthcoming comedy sequel starring Adam Sandler, are being sold on Callaway's website for $499.99 and $59.99, respectively. They're also available for purchase on Dick's Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy until July 25. The putter features a hockey stick head and is an exact replica of the one seen in the new Netflix movie, which is a refined version of the one used by Sandler's titular character to defeat Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) in the Tour Championship in the original 1996 sports comedy. It's additionally designed in the same yellow and black colorway as the Boston Bruins, the hockey team Gilmore is a die-hard fan of. It comes in a 44-inch option made only for right-handed golfers. A Happy Gimore 2 tube sock headcover is also included. The product description notes that the putter does not conform to the rules of golf. It is mostly intended to be a collector's item. Happy Gilmore starred Sandler as a wannabe professional hockey player who discovers he actually has a talent for golf. After learning his grandma is about to lose her house, he enters a golf tournament to try and win the prize money for her. The beloved classic also starred Modern Family's Julie Bowen and the late Carl Weathers. Bowen will reprise her role as Gilmore's love interest, Virginia Venit, in Happy Gilmore 2. McDonald, who played the antagonistic golfer, McGavin, will also return for the sequel. It will additionally feature Puerto Rican reggaeton star Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Ben Stiller, and Sandler's 16-year-old daughter, Sunny. Sandler has also revealed that NFL star Travis Kelce will make an appearance in the movie. 'We have a nice something for Travis. He is going to come by,' the 50 First Dates actor said on a 2024 late-night interview. The sequel had been rumored for some time. Back in 2022, Sandler said on Variety's 'Awards Circuit' podcast that he had an idea for the film involving a senior golf tour. 'Wouldn't that be fun to do the senior tour of Happy Gilmore, and hang out with all those guys and try to write a great script about Happy as an older guy, and having to calm down his temper and all that stuff? But, I never know. Maybe one day, something like that,' Sandler said at the time. Details of the sequel's storyline have remained tightly under wraps. Happy Gilmore 2 will be released on Netflix on July 25.
