SERIAN (Aug 13): A missing 67-year-old man who failed to return home on Monday was found safe at an oil palm plantation in Gedong last night.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said workers discovered Gingan Dalot at around 8pm.
'Serian Fire and Rescue Station received a call from the police at 8.20pm informing that the missing person from Kampung Semukoi A had been found by factory workers in Ladang Tabung Haji, Gedong, in a safe condition,' the department said in a statement.
A Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team was dispatched to the estate's guard post, where the workers had brought the victim.
He was later transported to Serian Hospital for further treatment.
The search operation began after the victim's family lodged a police report yesterday, saying he had left home around noon the previous day wearing a black shirt, green long trousers, and green boots, on a Honda RS150 motorcycle.
He was last seen at the Gedong junction.
Family members and villagers had earlier searched locations he frequented without success.
Bomba said the search yesterday focused on the Tabung Haji plantation area after workers reported seeing the victim passing through around 2pm.
'The Bomba team entered the plantation and followed the trail for about 10km from the main junction, where they found the victim's motorcycle,' Bomba said.
Rescuers searched the surrounding area but found no trace of the victim.
The search was suspended at 6pm due to nightfall, with plans to resume today.
Following the discovery of the victim, the operation officially ended at 10pm.
The search party included the police, Civil Defence Force, People's Volunteer Corps, and villagers.
