Everybody Reads is back with bigger goal
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A reading challenge in Sioux Falls is upping its goal this year.
You can find students across Sioux Falls with their nose in some of their favorite books this month.

'I like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and I like it because it's fiction and it has a movie to it,' Hawthorne Elementary 2nd grader, Victoria Amina said.
'The Hilo series. I really like it because I really like the plot,' Hawthorne Elementary 5th grader Gio Battese said.
Every book they read in March will count towards the Everybody Reads initiative.
'Everybody Reads is this initiative that started four years ago, Dr. Stavem– She had this idea of a community reading initiative. And so she had this idea, and then the public library and the school library got together and they came up with this idea,' Hawthorne Elementary Librarian Sarah Becker said.
Last year, they had a goal of 300,000 books read for the month, but this year they've added an extra 50,000 to that goal.
'Once we reach that main goal of 350,000, REACH Literacy will get $1,700 this year, which is more than they got last year,' Becker said.

Giving students the motivation to read a few extra books this month.
'I just think it's fun and it's good to, like, read and learn something once in a while,' Battese said.
'I think they should read this month because it's a month to read and REACH Literacy and is going to get some money so they can teach other people how to read,' Amina said.
Augustana and USF decided to join in with the Everybody Reads initiative this year as well.
People who aren't students can also help read towards the goal.
