Galway City Council opens applications for environmental groups to speak at climate festival
The festival takes place over four days to bring a creative and effective recognition to the delivery of Galway's climate action plan using theatre, music, art, sport, and Gaeilge.
'Giob Geab', the kick-off event to the festival, will be hosted by native Australian and An Spidéal resident, Shani Williams with a warm and welcome evening of storytelling and community building.
Community and biodiversity groups, social enterprises, and resident associations are invited to present on their sustainability projects or innovative ideas. Galway City council staff will also be in attendance to provide an opportunity for networking with council members who contribute to Galway's climate actions day to day.
The event is aimed to be engaging and light, fit with Shani Williams 20+ years of performing and presenting experience to guide attenders through the evening in such a way.
'Giob Gaeb' first launched in March 2025 as an Irish interpretation of a Japanese presentation method called 'Pecha Kucha' – a rapid-fire approach by presenting in a sharp five minutes with only five slides.
Community Climate Action officer, Tiarnan McCusker, said: 'The first Giob Geab was truly an inspiring night of creative climate actions from groups doing amazing and sometimes unknown projects in the city. We hope to see many more groups coming together as part of this year's Climate festival 2025''.
The Galway Climate Festival will run September 10-14, 2025, and 'Giod Gaeb' will open September 11, 2025. Submissions to present remain open until August 22, 2025.
