Kimberley Walsh admits Girls Aloud are 'in a different stage' as she reflects on emotional reunion and reveals how their kids were 'blown away' on tour
Kimberley Walsh has admitted that her Girls Aloud bandmates are now in a 'different stage' of their lives as she reflected on their emotional reunion tour. The iconic girl band was made up of Kimberley, 43, Nadine Coyle, Cheryl, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding, until her tragic death from breast cancer in 2021, aged 39. In May last year, the group returned to the stage for the first time in 11 years to go on a huge UK tour, where their late bandmate was kept as the focus throughout. The show included songs dedicated to Sarah, as well as emotional montages of the late star and a rendition of I'll Stand By You featuring her vocals. In a new interview, Kimberley, 43, admitted it was the band's biggest challenge to ensure Sarah had her moment. She told the Mirror: 'That was a tough moment every night, but we all needed it too, we all needed the minute. As hard as it was, I loved that part of the show.' The tour was also special for another reason - it was the first time Kimberley, Cheryl, and Nadine's children saw their mums, and 'Auntie Nicola,' as popstars. 'I think it was a little bit mind-blowing for them,' Kimberley laughed, explaining that her children - Bobby, nine, Cole, seven, and two-year-old Nate - mostly know her for her presenting work. The singer revealed that the group brought their children along on the tour buses and said it was fun for the kids to enjoy the celebrations together. Nadine's daughter Anaíya is just six months younger than Kimberley's eldest, Bobby, while there is are only a few months between Cole and Bear (Cheryl's son with the late Liam Payne). Kimberley added: 'For us as mums, we're in a very different stage of our lives, so we were able to enjoy it for ourselves but also see it through their eyes.' It comes after the star revealed that during the rehearsals for the reunion, the group had 'let it all out' so that they could be strong enough to get through the live shows. However, she added how important they all knew it was to follow Sarah's wishes and show how she was an integral part of the band. She also admitted that despite it being 'tough' for them, they wanted to be able to honour and remember their friend. Speaking to The Sun, she explained: 'She wanted us to do it. She made it clear when she was here, but equally we felt it isn't Girls Aloud without her. She's such a massive part of it, so we wanted to keep her part of it. We're trying to keep her spirit alive.' She continued: 'There wasn't just one moment of her, we made the whole show have a thread of her throughout. And at times we were like: "Is this actually too sad?" Because for us it felt just gut-wrenching. But then, equally, she deserved that time and for people to remember her.' Kimberley said the end result was 'crazy emotional', but described hearing Sarah's vocals in arenas as 'epic' and confessed celebrating their bandmate alongside the fans had ended up being a 'cathartic' experience for the group. She said: 'It's been cathartic for all of us to have that time and to almost grieve with the fans. They've grown up with us. 'And there's no denying that her energy was really missed on stage. But I think everybody could feel that she was still very much intertwined within the show and the band.'

Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh admits 'we're in a different stage' after reunion
EXCLUSIVE: Kimberley Walsh has opened up about her time with Girls Aloud following their sold-out tour last year, honouring their late bandmate, Sarah Harding, and how their kids were blown away on tour Kimberley Walsh admits that she and her Girls Aloud bandmates are now in a "different stage" of their lives. The chart-mauling group, which launched in 2002, reunited last year to celebrate their 20th anniversary and also honour their late bandmate, Sarah Harding. Sarah died aged just 39, on September 5, 2021, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which had metastasised to other parts of her body. Prior to her death, the singer had told her bandmates it was her wish that they carry on and honour her, as well as the legacy of the band. Throughout the tour, Kimberley, Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle kept Sarah's memory alive, with her iconic parts from Something New and The Promise blasting out to audiences night after night, something the girls were keen to keep in the show. "I think people were having a really good time," Kimberley exclusively told the Mirror, adding: "It did feel really special." Speaking about including Sarah, the Bradford-born singer, actress, and presenter said: "That was the biggest challenge and that was the focus for all of us during those creative meetings, 'How do we give Sarah her moment and keep her flowing throughout the show?' "For us, that was so important; we wanted to feel like she was still with us. I do think we achieved that, we tried to bring it back to her whenever possible and give everybody that time to reminisce and celebrate her." During the show, Sarah's lead vocals played during I'll Stand By You, a recording the band discovered when preparing for the tour. Kimberley said: "That was a tough moment every night, but we all needed it too, we all needed to take that minute. As hard as it was, I loved that part of the show." The tour was also very different, with Kimberley, Cheryl and Nadine's children seeing their mum, and Auntie Nicola as popstars for the first time. "I think it was a little bit mind-blowing for them," Kimberley laughed, before explaining her children, Bobby, nine, Cole, seven and two-year-old Nate, know her mainly for her presenting work. "I don't think they really got it until they turned up at the arena for the first show," she explained. But it was the reaction from the sold-out audience which left her children baffled. "They started off finding it weird and ended quite enjoying it," she laughed. The group had their children on the tour buses with them. There's just six months between Nadine's daughter, Anaíya and Kimberley's eldest, Bobby. "There's only a few months between Cole and Bear [Cheryl's son with the late Liam Payne], and everyone just looked after Nate because he was the baby," she said, adding it was fun for the children to enjoy the celebrations together. Kimberley added: "For us as mums, we're in a very different stage of our lives, so we were able to enjoy it for ourselves but also see it through their eyes." Kimberley, however, has put her solo career on hold following the birth of Nate in June 2021. Her debut album, Centre Stage, which charted at Number 18, became a fan favourite. "I've taken a step back from musical theatre over the last few years, with Nate being so young," she said. She explained that she didn't want to miss any vital moments of her children's lives, as she feels as though she'd just had Nate. "It made sense not to be in the theatre over the last few years," she said, while laughing that in a few years, her children may not care if she's home at bedtime every night. "It is a real passion of mine, the album, I love the album, it was a really special time for me," she said. Adding: "I'd just discovered my voice a bit more, realising what I was capable of doing, which was a bit of a revelation for me. It was fun to be able to challenge myself. I'd love to do a Centre Stage part two." Could Kimberley be back on stage any time soon though? She said: "I would love to be back on stage in the theatre, there's something so special about that environment." That is an environment her children haven't been "properly immersed in" yet, due to their young ages. Kimberley isn't the only singer in their household, though, with her husband Justin Scott, previously being a member of the boyband Triple 8, and young Bobby wants to be a "singing builder." Kimberley explained that Bob had been wanting to model for several years. "He's really quite serious about it," she said, before explaining that it was great for his confidence. "We're all learning aren't we, we never really know what the right decision is," she said, but added that she and Bobby have a similar personality. Away from singing and acting, Kimberley keeps herself busy, presenting a various of shows, including Morning Live, in Manchester, which she credits for working around her schedule. She said: "I don't want to be away from the kids too much. And the tour is probably one of the most full-on things I've done over the last few years. But again, they were able to be involved. They were thrilled about that. They were able to come on the bus and be on tour with us, which was a really good experience for them." Most recently, she launched her third paint shade, Blush Rose, with Wickes. "I've always been really into DIY and interiors," she said, adding it's been one of the most exciting projects she's done. "And I've done a lot of fun stuff over the years! But in my life now, I absolutely love my home. I love interiors," Kimberley laughed. Speaking about getting her London home to where she wants it to be, the singer said: "When I started working with Wickes three or four years ago, my house really needed to be redecorated. I'd been in it for over ten years, and it was looking a bit tired. I was so ready to transform it. So now, I feel like it's like we've just moved in! I love walking into each space and seeing the changes I've made - seeing my paint colours in all their glory. They really suit my home. I've got a really traditional home, and a lot of the paints have that vintage feel to them." The majority of the redecorating was done during Nate's nap times. She said: "I've really enjoyed the time I spent decorating and doing DIY in the home. It's a nice way of escaping for a minute. When I get time to just paint all day, I can really get into it—put my music on, get the tea flowing, get the biscuits out, and just forget about everything but be mindful. Because as a mum of three with various jobs, my brain's quite busy! It's actually a positive thing." Away from Morning Live, singing and acting, Kimberley also fancies fronting a new "amazing concept" for a DIY show. "I know there's a lot of them around, but it's tricky to find a different angle sometimes, but they are so addictive," she joked. She continued: "I think it would need to be geared more around giving people the tools to do stuff themselves, because it can be expensive to pay tradesmen, you should only be doing that if it's something you can't do yourself. Just give it a go, but we'll see, we'll work on that!" Speaking about social media and helping people with ideas, Kimberley said: "If money is tight and you're trying to do a transformation, you need to save money where you can. For me, with something like painting, practice makes perfect. Also, there's so many tutorials online. DIY can feel overwhelming, but nothing is impossible!" Beloved BBC daytime show suddenly pulled from schedules as fans left devastated
The programme has been on air for almost five years, and a string of famous faces have acted as host. A beloved BBC daytime show has been suddenly pulled from the schedules, and fans have been left devastated. Morning Live was launched in 2020 as a natural rival to the ITV Daytime schedule, but it has now been confirmed that it has been taken off air. Gethin Jones - who currently hosts the show alongside Michelle Ackerley and Helen Skelton - revealed at the end of Friday's broadcast that it would be taking a break for the summer holidays, a total of six weeks. He told viewers: "Morning Live will be taking a break for a few weeks." Confirming that the series will be back on air for the start of term time, he added: "We will be back on Monday 1 September and 9:30am. "Thanks for watching and thanks for getting involved. We'll see you very soon. Have a lovely summer." The former Blue Peter presenter then took to social media to thank loyal viewers for the support they continue to give him and his co-stars. He wrote on X: "We'll be back soon! I've said it a lot, but it's quite incredible how many of you not only watch @bbcmorninglive, but also get involved with the show. Sharing your stories to help others." But some fans were shocked and saddened with the sudden drop in programming, with one fan replying to Gethin: "Aww!! You're not allowed to be away for 6 weeks! definitely one of my favourite programmes. "Hope you all have an amazing summer. Enjoy your hols wherever you go. A well earned break. Look forward to seeing you all back in September!" Another added: "Will miss you all - have a great break and see you in September! Thank you for such a brilliant programme!", whilst another follower wished them a "well earned break" after so long on air. One fan simply wrote that they were "Gonna miss u guys" amid the break, and another admitted that they would be at a loss without their "morning fix" of the daytime staple. Gethin has been a host of the series since its inception, and the likes of radio presenter Gaby Roslin, and Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh have served as relief presenters over the years. Former Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh also began to host the programme before her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, and continues to front it on an occasional basis. The programme, which normally airs from 9:30am to 10:45am on weekdays during term time, was initially broadcast from London but made the move to Manchester in 2022. Its first episode achieved viewing figures of nearly 1.5 million and the programme offers viewers a range of advice on various topics, but also features celebrity guests.

Girls Aloud icon shares huge career move after emotional reunion tour
A Girls Aloud icon revealed her new career plans after going on a reunion tour in memory of the late Sarah Harding Girls Aloud icon Kimberley Walsh shared her desire to create another music competition that would create a "really amazing girl band". The 43-year-old star recently reunited with bandmates Cheryl Tweedy, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle for a mammoth tour in honour of the late Sarah Harding, performing across the nation. Kimberley was over the moon with the fans' reaction to the stars reuniting for the tour and admitted she thinks the UK needs another iconic girl group as there is "space for more". The singer said she's had a few chats with a commissioner about a possible competition programme. "There is actually a guy that I knew from years and years ago that worked on our Pop Stars: The Rivals programme and we were saying that maybe it's time to create another show that would create a really amazing girl band," she said. "I feel like the reaction to us coming back was quite something and none of us really expected it to be quite so huge, which clearly shows people still love girl bands and there's a space for more," Kimberley added to The Sun. The star also said she only wants to be a mentor if a programme were to be created. She went on to say that no new groups 'coming out' and claimed they haven't been seen in the mainstream media anymore. Kimberley took to Twitter the night before Girls Aloud's final concert on March 20 last year, to confirm that she was about to perform at their "penultimate show". Throughout the emotional concert, Sarah's memory was kept very much alive, with her iconic "Take a walk on the wild side of life," from Something New being played across the arenas. As the band wrapped up their performance, a huge screen appeared on stage during The Promise, allowing Sarah to shine once again as she belted out: "So here I am, a walking primrose, wondering when I'm gonna see you again," as fans and the band cheered for the late star. Moments before the four girls walked off stage, a photograph of Sarah appeared behind them alongside the text: "In loving memory of Sarah Nicole Harding. 17.11.81 05.09.2021." The late singer tragically died aged 39 – after confirming her initial diagnosis of breast cancer had advanced to various parts of her body. Despite her diagnosis, Sarah continued to put on a fight and updated fans on her condition. Although she was initially responding well to treatment, she sadly died on September 5, 2021, surrounded by her family.

The pop star is also eyeing up another TV role GIRLS Aloud star Kimberley Walsh hinted she's returning to our TV screens in the hunt to find the next best girlband. Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Kimberley said: "I was chatting to a commissioner the other day and we were chatting about formats. "There is actually a guy that I knew from years and years ago that worked on our Pop Stars: The Rivals programme and we were saying that maybe it's time to create another show that would create a really amazing girl band." Kimberley, who found fame on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, said she believes there is space for a new singing competition. "I feel like the reaction to us coming back was quite something and none of us really expected it to be quite so huge, which clearly shows people still love girl bands and there's a space for more," she said. "There's just not really any new bands coming out or we're not really seeing them in the mainstream anymore which is a shame I really nice for young boys and girls to have girl bands to aspire to." The Love Machine hitmaker said she'd love to be a panel member - but won't be channeling Simon Cowell's energy. She shared: "I think I'd really enjoy something like that because it's mentoring and I've got a lot of knowledge over the years to give but equally there's a lot of responsibility there and I think I'd be really soft, I wouldn't want to say no to anybody. "I'd have to be the nurturing mother hen, I can't be doing any of the other roles." Last year Kimberley and bandmates Cheryl, 42, Nicola Roberts, 39, Nadine Coyle, 40, reunited for the first time in 11 years - for a special concert for Sarah Harding, after she passed away following a cancer battle in 2021. Iconic girl band to make huge comeback after a decade and have secretly reunited to film video ahead of new album & tour 'The reunion tour was amazing, I feel like we had that incredible moment and it was a way for us to obviously honour Sarah. That was our main focus and we massively achieved that I think," Kimberley said. "People really did feel they were able to celebrate her and that was really special for us. Who knows [if we will reunite], it's really hard to say right now it's not where we're at. "If you had asked me 10 years ago if we'd be doing a tour, last year I'd probably have said no - so you never know, do you. 'I definitely [feel like me and the girls are closer than ever now], we spent all that time last year together, back to like the old days, back to our kind of sisterhood and it's actually been so lovely to reconnect fully. "It was a really special time.' Meanwhile DIY enthusiast Kimberley has tapped into the demand and launched her latest paint colour in collaboration with home improvement retailer, Wickes - Blush Rose – available now for £14 per 2.5L pot. The pop beauty, who has previously taken part in some of the biggest TV reality shows - including Strictly Come Dancing, said she would jump at the chance to do one show in particular. She told us: "I've done a lot of the big shows that I would personally enjoy doing, just because for me, if I'm going to do a show like that it's got to be something that I'm really interested in and really into because it takes a lot of time and dedication. Strictly was amazing. "Nadine [Coyle] was amazing in the jungle - I did not in a million years think she'd be able to cope with it like that, she's terrified of her own shadow but she did so well. "I think for me the hardest thing is being away from the kids, I've got three kids, I think they'd find it really really tough. For me, it's not something I'd ever consider just because of the isolation element of it, being away, it's not the one." Kimberley then teased: "There are always new shows coming up, I think my ultimate is if they did an All Stars Strictly, I'd be like 'sign me up straight away' because I just loved it so much. Maybe they should do that." She took part on the dance show in 2012 and was partnered with Pasha Kovalev, where she finished as one of the runners-up, alongside Denise Van Outen, while Louis Smith won the competition. Elsewhere, Kimberley said she may even be eyeing up a DIY show like Stacey Solomon's BBC show Sort Your Life Out. Taking all things DIY, Kimberley said: "My biggest renovation is my own home, it's a relatively big house to do yourself, I took on the challenge when we moved in 14 years ago and I was having a little break from Girls Aloud at the time. "I just bought the house and had nothing else to do and said 'i'm just going to do it myself'. "It was no mean feat, it was a big challenge to take on, big spaces. I think now that I've done so much of it, nothings really daunting to me now. I just find it actually really therapeutic to decorate and it's almost like my form of mindfulness to just switch off and have a DIY day or decorating day. "I get a real kick out of transforming a space and I just get it in my head that I want to revamp somewhere and there's no stopping me. I do absolutely love it - if you could find the right format that's not existing, for me I'd want to do something that's empowering people to stuff themselves a bit more, rather than me coming in and being like 'look, this is how I can change your space', just showing people the really small changes like repainting a room in a different colour can actually change how you feel in that space. "It would be fun to do a DIY show, they are addictive, people always want to see the finished version. "I've always loved DIY, I used to make interior mood board, I'm still more likely to spend money on the house than myself, that's my passion, that's my first love. "If I wasn't a singer, I always thought if I didn't make it as a singer, I'd be an interior designer, that's what I thought in my head, but now I get to merge both." The Something New singer has teamed up with Wickes to create her latest pain colour. The world has gone mad for all things pink this summer, with #pinkdecor sporting over 32k videos on TikTok as homeowners and renters alike play with pink in their homes. Kimberley said: 'I've always had a soft spot for dusty, vintage pinks - they're already a big part of my own home and so choosing this shade for my Wickes collection felt completely natural. "It's a colour that lifts the mood instantly, bringing little sparks of joy and a burst of energy to any space." 7 Kimberley believes there is space for a new singing competition Credit: Splash 7 The hitmaker is keen for a new pop talent show to grace our screens Credit: Splash 7 Kimberley said she'd also jump at the chance at competing in a Strictly All Stars spin-off Credit: Handout
