Chelsea transfer target 'speeds away from training ground' as move collapses
Jamie Gittens was hoping to seal a move to Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup kicking off in the USA, but he has now been named in Borussia Dortmund's squad Chelsea transfer target Jamie Bynoe-Gittens appears to be less than impressed that his move to the Blues failed to go through before the Club World Cup deadline. England under-21 winger Gittens, 20, has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, and has been receptive to Chelsea's advances ever since the Premier League outfit firmed up their interest in a player who was briefly in their own academy. Chelsea have reportedly agreed a seven-year contract with the former Manchester City youngster, but on Tuesday they saw their £42million bid for his services rejected by Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 7pm GMT Club World Cup transfer deadline. The Bundesliga outfit then named Gittens in their 28-man squad for the tournament in the US, and he was filmed by a local reporter speeding away from the club's training ground having been left 'very frustrated' by the episode. The failure to sign Gittens completed a disappointing day for Chelsea, who have also failed in their move for the AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 30-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Blues, and while Chelsea didn't register a bid they do still hope to make a move for him later in the summer, with Maignan having one year remaining on his Milan contract. Sky Germany also report that Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for their forward Hugo Ekitike, causing the Blues to pull the plug on a deal for him before the Club World Cup. Liverpool also remain interested in the Frenchman. Gittens will now hope that a switch to Chelsea can be resurrected later in the summer, and it will be interesting to note if he appears for Dortmund in their Club World Cup group stage matches against Brazil's Fluminense in New Jersey on June 17, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati on June 21 and Japanese outfit Ulsan HD, also in Cincinnati, on June 25. Chelsea's group stage fixtures are all one day prior to Dortmund's. The Blues begin their campaign against MLS side LAFC in Atlanta before facing Brazil's Flamengo and Tunisia's Esperance in Philadelphia.

Chelsea unlikely to sign Gittens or Maignan before Club World Cup
Chelsea are unlikely to sign either the Borussia Dortmund winger, Jamie Gittens, or AC Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, before tonight's transfer window deadline. The west London club are in no rush to sign Gittens, 20, and are set to resume negotiations when the window opens next week, although missing the 7pm deadline on Tuesday means he will not play for the club in the initial stages of the Club World Cup, which begins this weekend. Chelsea have also been unable to make a breakthrough in their negotiations with Milan to sign the France goalkeeper Maignan. They had proposed an offer worth £15million for the 29-year-old goalkeeper during talks over the weekend and were eager to conclude a deal before the window shut, but no agreement has been reached. While a move for Gittens is likely to be revisited in the short term — with Dortmund having completed the signing of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland — that is less certain with Maignan, who has only one year remaining on his contract at Milan, so is therefore available on a free transfer from January. A return to sign him has not been ruled out. Chelsea were not expected to pursue a goalkeeper this summer, but they saw Maignan's availability for a below-value fee as a market opportunity. The club had planned to review their goalkeepers before deciding on a new No1. This season, their first choice, Robert Sánchez ,was criticised for some poor performances, while Filip Jorgensen — signed from Villarreal last summer for £20million — was not able to secure the jersey despite a run of games in winter. The club are also welcoming back Djordje Petrovic from his loan at Strasbourg, after he was crowned the French club's player of the season, as well as new addition Mike Penders, 19, who has been signed from the Belgian club Genk for a fee in excess of £20million. Depending on the club's assessments, and indeed whether they recruit Maignan, Penders could go out on loan while Petrovic, 25, has attracted interest from across Europe and could also move on this summer. Chelsea have reduced the number of goalkeepers on the books already this summer, with Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to join Arsenal for £5million after spending last season on loan at Bournemouth. Marcus Bettinelli, meanwhile, is set to join Manchester City as their reserve goalkeeper. Chelsea also confirmed on Monday that the academy goalkeepers Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach and Luke Campbell will all depart on free transfers when their contracts expire this summer.

Chelsea halt negotiations with Milan for Mike Maignan after failing to agree fee
Chelsea have cooled their interest in Mike Maignan after failing to agree a fee with Milan for the goalkeeper before the Club World Cup. The Stamford Bridge club, who are also pursuing a deal for the Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, commenced talks with Milan after being presented with an opportunity to sign Maignan. The France international has a year left on his deal and has indicated that he wants to join Chelsea. Chelsea's hope has been to push transfers for Maignan and Gittens through before Tuesday's 7pm BST registration deadline for the group stages of the Club World Cup, which begins on Sunday. However, the Uefa Conference League winners were not willing to overpay for Maignan given that the 29-year-old will be available on a free transfer next summer. They were willing to pay around €15m (£12.7m) for the former Lille goalkeeper, with Milan demanding €25m. The clubs have been unable to reach an agreement and negotiations have ended for now. There remains a chance that Chelsea will revisit the situation with Maignan later this summer. The transfer window reopens on Monday, enabling teams in the Club World Cup to register new players for the tournament's knockout phase. Maignan can discuss a pre-contract with foreign clubs from next January. Chelsea, who travel to the USA on Friday and play LAFC in their opening game in Atlanta on Monday, have refused to be pressured into meeting Milan's demands. They remain happy with their quartet of goalkeepers, Robert Sánchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders. Sánchez excelled at the end of last season, recovering from a dip in form to help Enzo Maresca's side qualify for the Champions League. There is huge excitement about Penders following the highly rated 19-year-old's arrival from Genk. Marcus Bettinelli, Chelsea's current No 3, is joining Manchester City. The Blues who have already boosted their attack by signing Liam Delap for £30m, are also looking for a right-footed left winger. They have had a bid rejected for Gittens but are relaxed about the situation. The 20-year-old has agreed a seven-year contract with Chelsea but Dortmund, who are also in the Club World Cup, want up to £50m for the England Under-21 international.
