Press Release – Visionwest For 24 hours only, every donation will be doubled thanks to generous matching donors. It's a rare chance to make twice the impact in the fight against food insecurity. Auckland, 24 July 2025 – Food shortages continue to impact families across Tāmaki Makaurau. Visionwest Waka Whakakitenga is calling on Kiwis to come together for Giving Day 2025, starting at 10am on Tuesday 29 July. For 24 hours only, every donation will be doubled thanks to generous matching donors. It's a rare chance to make twice the impact in the fight against food insecurity. Thanks to the support of generous matching donors, every dollar given will be doubled, creating twice the impact for individuals and whānau doing it tough. The 24-hour campaign aims to raise urgently needed funds for Whai Manaaki Kai, Visionwest's food support service in West Auckland. This includes both emergency food provision (Pātaka Kai) and their social supermarket (Manaaki Kai). In the past year, Visionwest has: Distributed 13,585 emergency food parcels, valued at nearly $2 million Welcomed 2,455 shoppers to its social supermarket Found that 86% of shoppers cited financial hardship as their reason for needing food support 'Food insecurity doesn't always look like hunger. It's the daily anxiety of not knowing how you'll feed your kids tomorrow, or whether you can afford both rent and groceries this week,' says Brook Turner, Director of Partnerships at Visionwest. 'This Giving Day, people have the power to offer support, so no one has to face that alone.' Food insecurity is the lack of consistent access to enough nutritious food. It is rising in Aotearoa, especially among low-income households, elderly people on fixed pensions, and families facing housing instability.
