Kaizer Chiefs need to strengthen these THREE positions
Kaizer Chiefs aren't a million miles away from becoming a top-eight side again. Where should the Nedbank Cup champions strengthen? Every man and his dog knows that Chiefs are in the market to find a reliable goal-getter. The problem? This knowledge will drive prices up. Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler have done an adequate job on the right side of defence, but the Glamour Boys want to upgrade. It's been a while since Amakhosi had a high-volume midfield maestro they could rely on to dictate the tempo. Kingsley Michael is still only 25, but the Nigerian midfield orchestrator has already been around the block. His club career has seen him enjoy stints across Europe. First in Italy with Bologna, Perugia, Cremonese and Reggina. Then, spells with SV Ried and DSV Leoben in Austria. Now he's on the books of Monastir in Tunisia. Surprisingly, he's only earned one cap for Nigeria's Super Eagles. Click for more on Michael Kingsley Michael in action for US Monastir in Tunisia. Kaizer Chiefs to return to Europe for pre-season?
Kaizer Chiefs are set to return to Europe for their pre-season, presumably around July. The Soweto giants recently concluded their 2024/25 Betway Premiership, where they finished ninth. Although they had another disappointing season, they still ended up claiming the Nedbank Cup, which was somewhat of a relief, having gone 10 years without silverware. According to Soccer Laduma , Kaizer Chiefs technical team recommends the team to head to Europe for pre-season training. 'Yes, apparently the technical team has recommended that they have the pre-season camp in Europe again,' a source told the publication. 'No. Not at the moment. I can't say which country as they are looking at the availability of training fields, accommodation as well as other important logistics. But it's believed that they will be going to Europe for a pre-season camp'. Another insider said Kaizer Chiefs were looking at having pre-season tournaments as soon as they arrive from Europe. 'Of course those pre-season tournaments will still he held at the start of next season. It's just that we are not yet sure whether it will be the Toyota Cup or other tournaments but the team is working with sponsors in that regard. Apparently, when the marketing department and the sponsors finish the logistics then we will know which pre-season tournaments will be played this time around,' the second source told Soccer Laduma . Kaizer Chiefs had their pre-season training in Turkey last year, where they played several friendly matches. It was also Nasreddine Nabi's first time meeting with his team, having joined the Glamour Boys in July 2024. Kaizer Chiefs boss Nabi lays down the law with management
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed he recently held pivotal talks with club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung to map out the future of the Soweto giants. This key meeting took place shortly after the conclusion of the 2024/2025 season, which marked the end of Nabi's first full campaign at the helm of the Glamour Boys. In just his debut season, Nabi ended a ten-year silverware drought by guiding Chiefs to the 2025 Nedbank Cup title. The triumph came in dramatic fashion, with the Glamour Boys toppling bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in a tense final at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The victory handed Chiefs their first major trophy since 2014, sending waves of celebration through the club's faithful. However, the joy of cup success stood in sharp contrast to the club's dismal league performance. Chiefs finished ninth in the Betway Premiership with just 32 points, missing out on the lucrative MTN8 qualification. A dire nine-match winless streak, stretching back to March's win over Magesi FC, left the side floundering. With other teams still holding games in hand, Chiefs face the real threat of slipping further to a 10th-place finish. Nabi has made it clear that winning the Nedbank Cup is not the end goal, it's only the beginning. But to build on that success, he insists that reinforcements are essential. Following the final game of the season, a goalless draw against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium. The coach revealed that talks with Dr Motaung have already begun, focusing heavily on recruitment. 'On Friday, we had a conversation with the chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players,' Nabi stated. 'I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, and everyone knows the needs for the team.' 'The contact has started already, and we hope that we will get what we need, but we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot.' Nabi's postseason message couldn't be clearer. The squad needs fresh, quality talent to build on this year's cup success and challenge for the league title. The ball is now in the club's court. Kaizer Chiefs: Big decision made on Nabi?
As another season draws to its conclusion, the big question at Kaizer Chiefs has revolved around whether Nasreddine Nabi will stay or go. After finishing outside of the top eight in the league, there are strong rumours to suggest that certain factions of the club are in favour of seeing him move on after a tumultuous season to date. Yet, in the other camp, it seems there are some calls to keep the faith and continue back to Nabi after he at least led the club to Nedbank Cup silverware this season. With all this in mind, it has been interesting to hear the latest word out of the Glamour Boys camp. According to Nabi himself, he has remained part of the planning for next season after seemingly receiving the assurance that there will be improvements to the squad. 'We've had an exchange with the management and the Chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players,' said Nabi. 'I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, everyone knows the needs of the team, and contact has started already. 'When we get what we need, we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot.' And when speaking during a recent radio interview, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. also implied that they weren't going to turn their back on the coach. 'Hehas got another season after this with us now. At the same time, like we do after every season, we sit down and review. We know that the results in the league have been inconsistent. We know we've just been able to achieve a record milestone. 'With everything else, we're moving forward in our planning… (It's time to) galvanise the supporters, galvanise the technical team, the players, the staff for the mission ahead. So, we're just planning for the future.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
