Chris Brown arrested at plush UK hotel over alleged bottle attack
Met Police detectives tracked down the star just after 2am at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester. Glasgow-bound US rapper Chris Brown was arrested at a plush UK city centre hotel this morning over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The star who is set to play a huge Hampden show this summer was tracked down by Met Police officers just after 2am at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester. As the Mirror reports, Brown was held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw at the trendy Tape nightclub in Mayfair, Central London, the historic incident took place in February 2023. More than two years later Met cops infiltrated Brown and travelled north to Manchester where they arrested him. The 36-year-old was taken into custody and was reportedly taken to a local police station for questioning. A Met spokesman said: 'A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. "The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.'' Mr Diaw alleges R&B star Brown launched an unprovoked attack on him at around 3am while the star and his entourage were at a Dirty Martini club night held at the trendy Tape nightclub. He claims Brown smashed him over the head with a bottle and then punched and kicked him as he lay on the floor. At the time he said: 'He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well.' Mr Diaw had to be taken to hospital, needing crutches to walk when he was discharged. The alleged attack occurred while songwriter Brown was on a worldwide tour and playing in the UK. Brown is due to okay 10 more dates in Britain next month but the tour could be thrown into chaos by the police investigation. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Diaw has launched a civil claim against Brown for $16 million (£12 million) in damages for injuries and losses suffered as a result of the alleged attack. The two-time Grammy winner was planning to jet off around the world for his Breezy Bowl XX Tour - a celebration of his 20 year career. During the tour, Brown was set to play the national stadium in Glasgow on July 1. He will also visit the Co-op Live stadium in Manchester and Tottenham Hotspur's stadium in London during the tour. After announcing the tour in March, Brown took to Instagram writing: 'CELEBRATING 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans. 'I CANT WAIT TO SEE ALL YALLS BEAUTIFUL FACES. IMA TAKE YALL THREW THESE ERAS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GIVE YALL MY HEART AND SOUL.' The tour would follow his highly successful string of concerts in 2024, which supported his album entitled 11:11. Brown generated $82.3 million (£64 million) from his 11:11 concerts after selling a staggering 446,000 tickets. The star is known for rubbing shoulders with other high profile celebrities including partying with Tommy Fury and Conor McGregor.

Major plans revealed for Glasgow Airport after takeover
AviAlliance has announced plans to invest a whopping £350million in the 'future growth and decarbonisation' of AGS Airports over the next five years. It follows the company's takeover of the group, which comprises Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports. The firm, one of the world's leading private airport operators, completed the acquisition of AGS Airports in January in a deal worth £1.53billion. Now, it has outlined details of what is claimed to be the 'single largest investment programme in AGS' since it was formed in 2014. Meanwhile, PSP Investments is a long-standing investor in UK infrastructure. It is hoped that the huge investment in the airports will help facilitate the 'accelerated growth of AGS'. The £350million is also hoped to accelerate AGS' sustainability agenda, including its commitment to achieving net zero for its direct emissions by the mid-2030s. Alongside its investment plans, AviAlliance has also confirmed the appointment of Charles Hammond OBE as the new Chair of AGS. Charles stepped down as Chief Executive of Forth Ports in 2024 after holding the position for 23 years. A qualified lawyer, he joined Forth Ports when it was a publicly run ports and river authority in 1989 as Company Secretary and oversaw the company's move from a publicly listed PLC to private ownership in 2011. (Image: Supplied) Kam Jandu, Chief Executive of AGS Airports, said: 'AGS plays a critical role in driving economic and social prosperity across Scotland and the UK. "We have ambitious plans for the long-term, sustainable growth of our airports, including the strengthening of our connectivity, which underpins the success of the regions we serve. "This significant investment will not only enhance the fabric of our airports, it will enhance the role they currently play in facilitating trade and tourism, and, importantly in generating meaningful employment across the country. 'We are also delighted to welcome Charles on board as our new Chair. "He is joining at what is a very exciting time for AGS and his unrivalled experience will prove invaluable as we work to unlock the next chapter in the group's growth.' Gerhard Schroeder, Managing Director of AviAlliance, said: 'AviAlliance takes a long-term view across all the airports within our portfolio, and this investment will assist AGS in accelerating its plans for delivering a superior passenger experience and growing connectivity. "We are looking forward to working with AGS' regional and national partners over the coming years to realise the full and undoubted potential of Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.' Charles Hammond OBE, Chair of AGS Airports, said: 'It is an absolute privilege to have been appointed Chair of AGS. "I know Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports very well and I am also well aware of the critical role they play as drivers of regional economic growth across the UK. "With the £350 million investment from our new shareholders now confirmed, I am relishing the opportunity of working with the AGS board, Kam and his executive team, to ensure AGS can play an even greater role in supporting our regions to boost trade and tourism.' Deputy First Minister of Scotland Kate Forbes said: 'This significant investment in Scotland by AGS will bring incredible benefits through improved infrastructure at both Glasgow and Aberdeen airports, and to our wider economy. 'Good international connectivity is key to economic growth in Scotland. "It enables flow of trade, investment, labour and tourism, which will contribute to our prosperity. "Additionally, the commitment to sustainability is welcome as we progress towards a net-zero future.' UK Aviation Minister, Mike Kane MP, said: 'It's fantastic to see AGS Airports investing hundreds of millions of pounds into regional airports, turbocharging economic growth and supporting local jobs and skills right across the country, in line with our Plan for Change. 'This investment will drive forward decarbonisation at airports across the country and support the deployment of new fuels and technologies to contribute to the sustainable growth of the sector.'

Ex-RAF pilot who killed himself and four others on M6 was suicidal, inquest hears
A former RAF pilot who killed a family of four and himself when he drove the wrong way for more than a mile on a motorway wanted to take his own life, an inquest has heard. Richard Woods was almost four times over the legal drink-drive limit when his Skoda Fabia hit a Toyota Yaris head on, at speed, on the M6 northbound in Cumbria in October last year. A two-thirds empty bottle of spirits was later found in Woods' car. A fireball engulfed the Glasgow-bound Toyota with four of the five occupants pronounced dead at the scene. They were Jaroslaw Rossa, 42; his children Filip, 15, and Dominic, seven; and his partner, Jade McEnroe, 33. McEnroe's son Arran, seven, survived despite serious injuries. At the inquest into Woods' death in Cockermouth, the coroner Margaret Taylor recorded a conclusion of suicide and described the incident on the afternoon of 15 October as a 'catastrophe'. 'The only thing I can do at this stage is to express my condolences to the family for the tragedy that has ensued, but also to remember those who were involved as collateral to this tragic event,' she said. The court heard Woods had a distinguished 14-year career as an RAF jet pilot. He toured Afghanistan twice and completed three tours of Iraq – receiving a commendation for one – before leaving the RAF in 2019. He then worked for BAE Systems, based at RAF Marham in Norfolk, as a lead contractor instructor pilot. The inquest heard he had a history of anxiety and detrimental alcohol use, for which he received professional help. Woods was at a flight safety conference near Preston, Lancashire, on the day of the crash but could be heard snoring during morning sessions. In the afternoon he drove north, with witnesses telling police that his car was drifting erratically and dangerously between lanes. The inquest heard that Woods then went on to the hard shoulder and made a U-turn, driving the wrong way for more than a mile in the third lane of the M6. After a near-miss with one vehicle, Woods' car collided head-on with the Toyota. The Skoda's speedometer was frozen on 65mph, and could have been travelling at 70 or more at the point of impact, police found. Analysis of his mobile phone revealed 26 browser searches covering suicide and suicide of military personnel overseas. In a statement read to the inquest, Woods' father, Keith, said: 'Richard was a decent, honourable man, modest and kind towards others; just a troubled soul who lost his way.' An inquest into the deaths of Jaroslaw, Filip, Dominic and Jade is due to be held at Cockermouth on Thursday 3 April.
