Everything you need to know about Apple's iOS 26

Apple showcased its latest technology at its annual developers conference on Monday, showing off a new 'Liquid Glass' software design, a solution to screen out spam texts, and demonstrated it was in no rush to bring out more artificial intelligence (AI) features. But the latest software features will not be available for several months until iOS 26 (rebranded from iOS 19) is officially released. Here is our roundup of the latest announcements from WWDC 2025. At last year's conference, Apple announced a more personalised AI-powered Siri. However, this year Apple only mentioned Siri very briefly. 'As we've shared, we're continuing our work to deliver the features that make Siri even more personal,' said Craig Federighi, Apple's SVP of Software Engineering. 'This work needed more time to reach our high-quality bar, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the coming year'. However, Apple did say that AI would be integrated into some products with a focus on making our lives easier. Apple's WWDC comes just after Google unveiled AI updates at its developer conference last month. Samsung may also announce new phones in July. 'While it might seem others are leading the AI race, it is not a sought-after feature among users and there's no revenue uplift (for now),' tech analyst Paolo Pescatore told Euronews Next. 'Considering the negative perception, Apple needs to tread carefully not to frustrate and disappoint its loyal base of iPhone users'. But he said that the latest updates provide a more coherent feel and 'Apple remains in an enviable position' given its large installed base of users. Apple is expected to reveal its latest iPhones later this year. Apple Watch is getting a new, AI-enhanced 'Workout Buddy' feature. The new tool analyses users' exercise and fitness data, such as pace and distance to then make personalised recommendations. The demo showed a runner having data such as their heart rate during each kilometre and the distance they run that year at their fingertips. The feature will include other sports too. The biggest design update is a glass-inspired aesthetic to all Apple products. Called 'Liquid Glass' it makes icons and menus partially transparent. Apple said it retracts light and dynamically reacts to your movement with specular highlights. Apple announced users would soon be able to screen out new senders in its messaging app. 'Unknown senders appear in a dedicated area where you can decide if you want to mark the numbers as known, ask for more information, or delete,' said Darin Adler, a vice president at Apple. 'Until you accept, messages from unknown senders will remain silenced and won't appear as notifications'. Apple also announced that you will soon be able to create in-message polls. The tech giant also announced that its users will soon be able to converse with people in different languages with a Live Translation feature. 'Live Translation can translate conversations on the fly. It's integrated into messages, FaceTime and phone,' said Leslie Ikemoto, an engineering director at Apple. It will work in phone calls, even with a non-Apple responder; your words can be translated as you talk, and the translation is spoken out loud for the call recipient. And when the person you are speaking to responds in their own language, you'll hear a spoken translation of their voice. In messages, it automatically translates the text for you as you type and deliver while the response can be instantly translated. On FaceTime, Apple Translate provides live captions in your preferred language. Apple has not said how many languages it will support. Overall, the 'subtle addition of Apple Intelligence across key services will help grow awareness and provide users with confidence to drive further engagement,' said Pescatore. 'The tight integration between hardware, software and services really stands out with this latest move'. 'It looks like Apple has done enough in what promises to be a year of transition as it further builds out its AI capabilities,' he added. All eyes will be on Apple on Monday as its World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) returns to its pristine stage in California, where the company is expected to unveil its latest technology and devices. It comes at a pivotal time for the company, which faces repercussions from the Trump administration's tariff proposal and competition from other tech companies to reign supreme in the battle for artificial intelligence (AI). These are some of the rumours of what could be announced. Last year, Apple announced the rollout of Apple Intelligence to its devices and the incorporation of ChatGPT into its Siri assistant. On Monday, we could see some upgrades to its current offerings, perhaps with Apple working with other AI chatbots. The recent announcement from Sam Altman that OpenAI is working with former Apple executive Jony Ive on an AI hardware device is no doubt putting pressure on Apple to catch up. Meanwhile, the race to incorporate AI more into smartphones is on. Samsung is reportedly partnering with AI start-up Perplexity to use its app and AI assistant in its Galaxy phones, according to Bloomberg. Motorola has also incorporated AI into its new Razr flip phone. However, AI could be used in Apple's Health app to provide personalised health suggestions based on user data, according to speculation. Another theory is that AI will be baked into some small OS updates, and could see new features for things like better battery management. 'While there is no clear leader in the AI race as it's still early days, arguably Apple's efforts are not resonating with customers,' tech analyst Paolo Pescatore told Euronews Next. 'This [AI] is a marathon and not a sprint, so there is time, but much more work needs to be done under the hood. Apple needs to tread carefully not to frustrate and disappoint its loyal base of iPhone users,' he added. According to Bloomberg, Apple is developing a dedicated app for video games that would exist separately from the App Store. It will replace the Game Centre app, and could allow access to Apple Arcade's subscription-based game store, plus other gaming features such as leaderboards. One of the biggest announcements will be the change in the naming systems for iOS, according to reports by Bloomberg. New iOS versions will be labelled by year, so we could see the launch of iOS 26 on Monday. Apple's iOS could also see a redesign, with reports speculating on a transparent interface. Apple could also introduce a live-translate language feature to its AirPods, according to Bloomberg. This would allow real-time translation during conversations. 'While all attention will be focused on Apple Intelligence, Siri, and other features, its relentless focus on ease of use and seamless interaction across all Apple devices should remain its top priority,' said Pescatore. Apple's large user base puts it in an enviable position, but the company must make some tough decisions on whether it continues relying on building in-house or partnering with other services, he added. But Pescatore said he did not think we would see the elephant in the room - the Trump administration tariffs - being mentioned. 'With the eagerly awaited new iPhone later in the year, and how [tariffs] will impact future sales. Users are not buying into smartphones due to AI; it is not a sought-after feature for now,' he said. But we will know more at the WWDC event, which goes live at 19:00 CET. You can watch the announcements as they unfold on Apple's YouTube channel.

From threatening to ban iPhones at Tesla offices, to getting impressed: Elon Musk's reaction to iOS 18 vs iOS 26

Just a year after threatening a blanket ban on Apple devices at his companies due to perceived security risks, Elon Musk appears to have adopted a notably more positive view on Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 26 . Last year, following reports of Apple's intention to integrate OpenAI 's ChatGPT into iOS 18, the CEO of Tesla , SpaceX, and X expressed profound disapproval. In a public statement, Musk labeled the ChatGPT integration as an "unacceptable security violation," going so far as to declare that Apple devices would be prohibited at his various corporate campuses. Apple's all new iOS 26 operating system brings the new 'Liquid Glass' design, enhanced Apple Intelligence , and major system upgrades. All new features of iOS 26 are available for testing starting today by developers through the Apple Developer Program at Elon Musk's reaction to iOS 18 Last year, Musk strongly opposed Apple's partnership with OpenAI, calling the integration of ChatGPT into iOS 18 an 'unacceptable security violation'. He went as far as threatening to ban Apple devices from Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink offices, stating that visitors would have to check their iPhones at the door. 'If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation,' wrote Elon Musk on X. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Don't Forget To Block Ads Before Tuesday Lifestyle Tech Tips Click Here Undo 'And visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage,' added Musk. His concerns at the time centered on the idea of Apple "handing over your data to OpenAI without you even realizing it." Elon Musk's reaction to iOS 26 Fast forward to WWDC 2025, where Apple unveiled iOS 26, showcasing a sweeping "Liquid Glass" visual redesign and a host of new features, including enhanced AI capabilities like Live Translation and a more integrated approach to Apple Intelligence. Following a post by Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighting the new iOS 26 interface, Elon Musk reportedly offered a brief, yet notably positive, reaction: "Cool." The new design, featuring translucent UI elements and dynamic motion effects, appears to have impressed Musk, marking a stark contrast to his previous criticism. While Musk has not elaborated as to what he liked in particular about iOS 26. But it seems that the Tesla CEO is impressed by iOS 26's design enhancements and AI-powered system improvements. iOS 26 liquid glass: Here's why Windows Vista jokes are trending

WWDC 2025: One of the standout announcements from Apple's WWDC 2025 keynote yesterday was the 'Liquid Glass' design language, introduced across its entire ecosystem, including iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, and watchOS 26. The new aesthetic is already proving to be polarising; while many find its real-time light refraction visually appealing, it has drawn mixed reactions from the public. Apple has positioned the change as a 'pretty big' update, describing it as a "once-per-decade" project and noting that the last major design overhaul was iOS 7. The company explained that the power of modern devices has set the stage for this new UI, which aims to blur the line between hardware and software. However, despite this forward-looking pitch, an uncanny comparison has quickly spread online, with users drawing direct parallels between the 'Liquid Glass' UI and Microsoft's much older Windows Vista. Now, why is this? Why are people comparing a brand new design language introduced in 2025 to something that was launched more than a decade ago and something that many people used while growing up? Let us explain. Also Read: Protester crashes Apple WWDC 2025 keynote, shocks audience: Watch video So, if you watched the WWDC 2025 keynote, you would have noticed the all-new clear look that Apple has built, which extends to the iOS app icons, the Control Center, and even the Dock in macOS, widgets, and more. Apple says that it responds in real-time to content and behaves like glass in the real world, which can certainly be observed in all the demos that Apple has shown so far in videos. However, while a lot of this is new, including how the light refracts and the attention to detail, one can't ignore the similarity that exists between this and Windows Vista's Aero Glass design. It first debuted with Windows Vista and was then subsequently carried forward to Windows 7, before finally being discontinued for the Metro design in Windows 8. The Aero design featured translucent bits and glass-like window borders. The UI, in general, felt very airy and open due to the glass-like look. Now, this, coupled with the fact that many people have used Windows Vista and actually themed their operating systems like Windows Vista, has given rise to the comparison with iOS 26, wherein the UI elements look similar in their transparency. Of course, it's not a one-to-one comparison. There are multiple differences, especially in the way the UI bits like buttons and more interact, and how refined the current implementation is for the time it is being released. But of course, the internet is the internet and people love creating memes. Another common criticism that we noticed people pointing out on platforms like X was the fact that the new UI and the new OS are not particularly optimised from an accessibility standpoint, wherein people can have trouble reading text, especially if they have set a light-coloured background. In this situation, things like notifications, especially with white text, can be hard to read due to the lack of contrast. So, it remains to be seen how Apple responds to this criticism and whether it sticks to this design language moving forward. Because we have seen in the past that when Apple does something, it polarises, and it starts to grow on people over time. MOBILE FINDER: iPhone 16 LATEST Price, Specs And More

Create Account After an acting career that stretched back more than 40 years, Willis' family announced he was retiring following his diagnosis with aphasia in March 2022. The following year, his loved ones revealed that he was suffering from a type of dementia known as frontotemporal dementia. 'FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone,' the Moonlighting star's family wrote in a statement on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website at the time. The Die Hard star's wife, Emma Heming Willi,s will detail his family's ordeal in a new book, The Unexpected Journey , which will be released this September. A ccording to Australia's Emma, who shares daughters Mabel Ray Willis, 13, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 11, with the actor, reveals that Willis, 70, continued to work at a breakneck pace in 2020 and 2021 by having directors slash his onscreen dialogue and hiring a friend to read him his lines through an earpiece. 'Before making his condition public, Willis had found ways to soldier on with his acting, having directors scale down his dialogue and getting a trusted friend to feed him his lines through an earpiece on films such as Assassin and the Detective Knight series,' the Australian news site claims. ' Willis always had a slow speech pattern – so his inner circle wasn't overly concerned when he began stumbling over his words a little more than usual,' the website reports. In 2022, shortly after his family confirmed he was stepping away from his acting career, the Los Angeles Times recounted an incident on the set of his 2020 action thriller Hard Kill in which he reportedly discharged a firearm loaded with a blank on the wrong cue. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. In the years leading up to his retirement, Willis churned out dozens of low-budget action films, often earning $2 million for two days' work, documents reviewed by the Times revealed. His contract reportedly limited his work to no more than eight hours a day, but oftentimes he wrapped up his work in half that time. Emma said she wrote the book to help families going through similar struggles. 'I really wrote the book that I wish someone had handed me the day we got our diagnosis with no hope, no direction … not much,' the 46-year-old former model shared on Instagram when she announced the book back in April. 'Today, life looks different for me and our family.' Emma Heming Willis will release a book detailing her journey as a caregiver to her husband Bruce Willis this fall. Photo by Open Field Bookx / Emma Heming Willis Speaking at the Women's Alzheimer's Movement Forum last month, Heming Willis recounted how the future the two of them had dreamed of together 'vanished' when her husband's diagnosis was confirmed. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'On the day Bruce got his diagnosis, we left the doctor's office with a pamphlet and a hollow goodbye. No plan, no guidance, no hope, just shock,' she said, according to PEOPLE. 'The future we imagined simply vanished, and I was left trying to hold my family together, raise our two young daughters, and care for the man I love while navigating a disease I barely understood.' Emma said she felt 'lost, isolated and scared.' 'What I needed in that moment at that appointment wasn't just medical information. I needed someone to look me in the eye and say, 'This feels impossible right now, but you will find your footing. You will survive this and you will grow because of it,'' she told the audience. In the wake of Willis' illness, Emma has become a vocal advocate for raising awareness on dementia and families and caregivers struggling to cope with their new way of life. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'This is the book I trust will help the next caregiver. It is filled with support, insight and the hope needed to navigate this journey,' she said. Last December, Emma, who married Willis in 2009, admitted she allows herself some space to grieve her husband's illness and how it has affected their lives. But she said that she only allows a short block of time to question the cruelty of the disease. 'I give myself 30 minutes to sit in the 'why him, why us,' to feel the anger and grief. Then I shake it off and return to what is. And what is… is unconditional love. I feel blessed to know it, and it's because of him. I'd do it all over again and again in a heartbeat 💞,' she wrote in an Instagram post. The Unexpected Journey will be released on Sept. 9. mdaniell@ Read More Canada Sunshine Girls Golf World Editorial Cartoons

WWDC25: Apple's iOS 26 to feature 'Liquid Glass' UI design, revamped apps

At WWDC25, Apple is expected to introduce iOS 26 with translucent 'Liquid Glass' design, revamped core apps, and deeper AI integration across the system New Delhi Apple is set to kick off its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25) from June 9, with a keynote event. While Apple is anticipated to preview a visual overhaul across its platforms, the next version of iOS is expected to take centre stage with a new design language. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the upcoming version of the iPhone operating system will be full of 'Liquid Glass' UI elements—hinting at more translucent designs for menus, search bars, icons, and more. Previously, it was reported that Apple is also planning to change the naming convention for its operating systems. For instance, the upcoming iPhone software could be branded as iOS 26 instead of iOS 19, bringing naming consistency across the ecosystem. WWDC25: What to expect from iOS 26 Liquid Glass design Bloomberg earlier reported that iOS 26 will be the biggest overhaul since iOS 7. The user interface is said to draw inspiration from visionOS, the operating system that powers Apple's Vision Pro headset. With the new report claiming Apple will likely call this design 'Liquid Glass,' users can expect translucent menus and panels, subtle motion effects, and possibly dynamic shimmer elements that respond to device movement. Apple is also reportedly tweaking app icons, making them rounder than current versions. Additionally, UI elements like navigation bars in native apps (such as the App Store and Apple Music) are expected to float, with refreshed layouts to support easier in-app search. These changes will not be limited to iOS 26. Gurman noted that it is 'part of a push to make Apple's operating systems more cohesive — with a similar look across the whole line-up.' That suggests similar visual updates could arrive on macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and even Apple CarPlay. While the Liquid Glass interface may be the headline announcement, Gurman also said this new UI will lay the groundwork for Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone—reportedly called 'Glasswing.' This future iPhone, planned for 2027, is said to feature curved glass on all sides, ultra-slim bezels, and no visible cutouts. Revamped core apps iOS 26 is also expected to introduce design updates across key native apps, including Phone, Camera, and Safari. Phone app: Apple will reportedly add a new view combining favourite contacts, recent calls, and voicemails in a single scrollable window. The update will be optional, with a toggle to switch back to the old layout. Safari: The browser will get a more transparent, glassy address bar. Camera: A simplified interface is expected. As per 9To5Mac, the app will primarily focus on Photo and Video modes, with sub-menus for exposure and other settings. Quick toggles like flash and Live Photos will appear at the top of the screen. Apple may also add support for polls in Messages, and the ability to set chat background images, similar to WhatsApp. Other expected app updates: Messages: Auto translation and polls, potentially AI-assisted. Music: Animated album art on the lock screen. Notes: Markdown export support. Preview (from Mac): PDF annotation support coming to iOS. New Game app Apple is reportedly working on a new cross-platform Game app. This will act as a central hub for launching installed titles, viewing achievements, checking leaderboard standings, and Browse editorial content. Tabs in the app may include: Home, Arcade, Play Together, Library, and Search. Apple Intelligence and Siri Apple Intelligence is not expected to be the main focus, but updates are still likely. These include: Live call translation — potentially usable with AirPods. Genmoji 2.0 — including the ability to combine emojis into new ones. Third-party AI models — expanding partnerships beyond OpenAI to Google and Anthropic. New SDK — to help developers integrate AI tools like Writing Tools into their apps. Apple may also preview its LLM-powered Siri, offering on-screen awareness, personal context, and natural language interactions. More details on delayed Siri features could also be shared. AI-powered battery optimisation Apple is reportedly working on a new AI-based battery optimisation system. It will analyse app usage, charging behaviour, and background activity to improve power efficiency. A new lock screen indicator showing estimated charging time may also debut. Improved switching options Apple may introduce a wireless eSIM transfer feature to help users switch from iPhone to Android more easily. According to Android Authority, iOS 26 could include a new 'Transfer to Android' option in Settings for this purpose.
