Softball Top 10: Bishop O'Connell wins VISAA, Maryland contenders begin playoffs

For the top Maryland public school softball teams, all roads end in College Park this weekend. The University of Maryland Softball Complex will again host the Maryland state championships, where four teams will close out their seasons on a thrilling high. But to make it to College Park, those teams must first survive and advance at Bachman Sports Complex in Glen Burnie Tuesday. In one of the most exciting events of the spring season, all 16 state semifinalists across the state's four classifications will duke it out on Bachman's sprawling campus for the opportunity to play for state title glory.

Broadneck girls' lacrosse is one win away from yet another state title

For a few minutes Saturday afternoon, it appeared Quince Orchard might do what nobody has been able to accomplish over the past five seasons: knock the Broadneck girls' lacrosse team out of the playoffs. The Cougars scored four quick goals to open the fourth quarter, cutting the Bruins' lead to four with 10 minutes to play in a Maryland Class 4A semifinal at Glen Burnie High. Broadneck Coach Katy Kelley quickly called a timeout. Sometimes a raised voice makes all the difference.

Broadneck, Severna Park return to Maryland boys' lacrosse finals

A Broadneck team that relied heavily on underclassmen this spring saw some of its more experienced players step up early in Saturday's Maryland Class 4A boys' lacrosse semifinal against North County. Junior long stick midfielder Wyatt Shaw, a Harvard commit who scored six goals all season, and senior attacker Blake Levicki, a Christopher Newport signee, both scored first-quarter hat tricks to quickly give No. 8 Broadneck an insurmountable lead. The Bruins outscored North County 11-0 in the opening 12 minutes and topped the Knights, 20-3, at Glen Burnie to clinch their fourth consecutive state final appearance.
