Police intercept Eswatini dagga smuggler in R4 million Dundee drug bust
High-speed chase leads to arrest of dagga smuggler in KwaZulu-Natal. A 32-year-old suspect has been arrested in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal, after police found 90 bags of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R4 million in his vehicle on Tuesday evening. The suspect, believed to have entered South Africa from Eswatini, was intercepted following a high-speed pursuit on the R33 road. The arrest was the result of coordinated intelligence work by various SAPS units, including the Glencoe K9 Unit, Zululand District Task Team, and Dundee Crime Prevention. "Police gathered intelligence about a vehicle which was entering the country from Eswatini via Paulpietersburg with a load of dagga," said police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo. After receiving the tip-off, officers swiftly mobilised to locate the suspect's vehicle. It was eventually spotted heading towards Blood River. However, when police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply and sped off, prompting a chase through the area.

Police confiscate dagga loot worth millions
Plans to deal in dagga were snuffed for a 32-year-old man in KwaZulu-Natal, who instead had his R4 million loot confiscated by police. The suspected dealer was arrested in Dundee on the evening of 5 August following a high speed chase by police. He had 90 bags of dagga in his possession. The arrest, follows intelligence gathered by police indicating that a vehicle with dagga was entering South Africa's borders from Eswatini (Swaziland). Police from the Glencoe K9 Unit, the Zululand District Task Team and the Dundee Crime Prevention Unit joined forces to apprehend the suspect and foil his plans. Police spotted the suspected vehicle on R33 Road driving towards Blood River. 'Members attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away. A chase ensued and police managed to stop the suspect's vehicle in Dundee,' said police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo. Police searched the vehicle and discovered 90 bags of compressed dagga in the front and back seats, and the car booth. '[The dagga] with an estimated street value of R4 million was seized,' added Ngcobo. The man was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear before the Dundee Magistrate's Court today. The use of cannabis was legalised in South Africa in 2018. Adults are allowed to smoke dagga in private places. It is illegal to smoke the drug in public places and in the presence of children. It is unlawful to possess large amounts of the drug and sell it, as is the case with any other drug.
