Experts want you to avoid having these nutritious foods for dinner; here's why
Consuming nutritious food is essential for good health. But there seems to be a catch: In an Instagram post, nutritionist Sakshi Lalwani emphasised that not just what you eat but when you eat matters too. She went on to list five nutritious foods one must skip at dinner to ensure smooth digestion through the night. For better digestion and sleep, early dinner, light, easily digestible meals are recommended at night, said Dr Bhavana P, chief dietitian, Gleneagles Hospitals, Lakdi Ka Pul, Hyderabad Spinach: It's hard-to-digest fibre and iron can cause bloating and discomfort if consumed at night, said Lalwani. 'Rich in oxalates, spinach may increase the risk of kidney stone formation if consumed excessively. Its high fibre content can slow digestion, potentially causing bloating or discomfort at night,' seconded Dr Bhavana. Fruits and fruit juices: While nutritious, their sugar content can lead to bloating and disturbed sleep. According to Dr Bhavana, fruits are high in natural sugars, which can spike blood sugar levels and disturb sleep patterns. She added that juices lack fibre, leading to quicker sugar absorption and a potential energy spike. Raw cucumber and beetroot: Cold foods like these can weaken your digestive fire (Agni) in the evening. 'High water content in these vegetables can lead to frequent urination, which can disturb sleep. Beetroot's natural sugars may also cause mild energy fluctuations,' said Dr Bhavana. A post shared by Sakshi Lalwani (@sakshilalwani_nutritionist) Sprouts: While high in fibre, eating them at night can lead to gas and stomach discomfort. Dr Bhavana noted that while healthy, raw sprouts can be more complex to digest for some people, causing gas or bloating, especially before bedtime. Curd: Its cooling effect may cause mucus build-up and slow digestion at night. Though beneficial during the day, Dr Bhavana said that curd's cooling properties might aggravate congestion or mucus production in susceptible individuals when consumed at night. 'However, low-fat curd is beneficial at night,' said Dr Bhavana. 'Remember, eating healthy is great, but timing is key,' said Lalwani. Dr Bhavana shared some generic rules to avoid digestive discomfort at night and feel rested Spicy foods: Spices can irritate the stomach lining and trigger acid reflux, causing discomfort and disrupting sleep. Caffeinated products: Coffee, tea, and chocolate contain caffeine, which stimulates the nervous system, delaying sleep onset. Sugary treats: Desserts and sugary snacks can spike blood sugar levels, leading to energy fluctuations that interfere with restful sleep. Fried or fatty foods: These are hard to digest, potentially causing bloating or indigestion, and can disrupt sleep quality. Citrus fruits: Highly acidic, citrus can cause heartburn when consumed close to bedtime, especially for individuals prone to acid reflux, said Dr Bhavana. Be mindful: Avoid eating large meals or drinking a lot of water. 'This can disturb good sleep,' said Dr Bhavana.

After RCB's iconic IPL 2025 win, Virat Kohli embraces Anushka Sharma in a long, tight hug, sheds happy tears: ‘She's a Bengaluru girl as well'
After 18 long years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) created history in Ahmedabad by winning their first-ever Indian Premier League title on June 3. Virat Kohli, who has been with the team since the beginning, shed happy tears as wife Anushka Sharma came running towards him for a long, tight hug, and a forehead kiss from the cricketer. In a chat post the award ceremony, Kohli also opened up about the significance of the win for the Zero actor, whom he married in 2017. 'What your life partner does for you to be able to play, and the sacrifices, and the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin…it's something that you can't explain in words. Only when you play professionally do you understand the number of things that go on behind the scenes and what they go through emotionally as well. Watching me down and out, her coming to the games, being so connected with Bengaluru…she is a Bengaluru girl as well…being connected to RCB is very special for her as well. She must be so so proud,' said Kohli. Reflecting on the heartwarming moment, Dr Santosh Bangar, senior consultant psychiatrist, Gleneagles Hospitals, Parel, Mumbai, said that supporting each other through thick and thin and being a constant cheerleader can not only help the relationship thrive, but it also helps individual performances. 'It can create a sense of teamwork and also boost trust. Even a little push or encouragement can bolster the confidence of your partner, making Herculean tasks easier to handle,' Dr Bangar added. In the realm of human connection, the profound embrace shared between two individuals in moments of triumph speaks volumes about the power of emotional support and the bonds that form, and the joy seen in Kohli's embrace of Anushka after a hard-fought victory exemplifies this notion. 'It invites us to reflect on how our loved ones are not merely spectators in our lives, but are integral to our journey. Their presence amplifies our joys and helps us navigate our sorrows,' expressed Dr Bangar. Such moments become not just personal victories but shared milestones that strengthen the bond we hold, reminding us of the beauty of togetherness in every win. According to Dr Bangar, supporting each other emotionally through tough times, listening to feelings without being judgmental and celebrating every small success can help create a loving and positive environment. This is the key to a healthy relationship, he noted. A post shared by Filmfare (@filmfare) He also asserted that both partners need to feel happy, supported, respected, and valued to stay happier and more motivated. 'A strong relationship is always built on mutual respect, trust, shared responsibilities and the willingness to grow together,' said Dr Bangar.

Could your liver be making you frail? Here are signs what to watch out for
Frailty is part of the normal ageing process causing decreased muscle mass and bone density. Patients with liver cirrhosis develop frailty more rapidly when compared to the average population. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Ameet Mandot, Director - Department of Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine at Gleneagles Hospitals in Mumbai's Parel, explained, 'Frailty is present in patients with chronic liver disease such as cirrhosis. It is vital to identify and manage liver fragility to empower the patient to combat liver ailments, maintain muscle mass, withstand complex treatments like surgery and transplantation, prevent injuries and fractures, and enhance the overall well-being of the patient.' Recognising early signs and risk factors can help improve outcomes through timely intervention. Dr Ameet Mandot shared, 'When we think of liver disease, we often picture jaundice, swelling, or fatigue but there's another hidden complication that often goes unnoticed which is liver frailty. This condition is becoming increasingly common, particularly in individuals with chronic liver disease or cirrhosis.' According to him, liver frailty doesn't just affect the liver, it weakens the entire body, reducing physical strength and increasing the risk of falls, hospitalisations and even poor transplant outcomes. Understanding what liver frailty is and how to detect and manage it can make a significant difference in a patient's journey. Dr Ameet Mandot highlighted, 'Liver frailty is a physical decline seen in patients with advanced liver disease. It is characterised by muscle weakness, reduced endurance, and overall decreased physical performance. Unlike general frailty seen in elderly people, liver frailty is linked to liver dysfunction and leads to complications and mortality in liver patients.' Dr Ameet Mandot pointed out that the symptoms include unexplained weight loss, muscle wasting or weakness, slow walking speed, difficulty standing or rising from a chair, fatigue, low energy and poor balance. Dr Ameet Mandot said, 'Liver frailty develops due to the progressive nature of liver disease, especially cirrhosis. As the liver becomes more damaged, the body's ability to absorb nutrients and maintain muscle mass decreases. Chronic inflammation, poor appetite, hormonal changes and reduced physical activity all contribute to this condition.' Dr Ameet Mandot informed, 'The doctor will conduct an examination when it comes to strength, walking speed, and chair stand tests. He/she may also assess the Liver Frailty Index (LFI) to see the severity. Nutritional assessments and muscle mass measurements may also be part of the evaluation when it comes to conforming to the diagnosis.' With timely diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach, patients with liver frailty can improve their strength, quality of life and overall liver health. Stress to kidney disorder: Doctor breaks down 4 tremors that are not Parkinson's and how to spot them
Not all tremors indicate Parkinson's as various other disorders may cause shaking hence, understanding the differences helps in early diagnosis and proper management. Tremors or involuntary shaking movements are alarming, leading many to fear the worst which is Parkinson's disease however, it is essential to understand that not all tremors are a sign of Parkinsonism. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Shirish M Hastak, Regional Director of Neurology - Stroke and Neurocritical Care at Gleneagles Hospitals in Mumbai's Parel, explained, 'While Parkinson 's-related tremors are well-known, various other conditions can also cause shaking, many of which are not serious or progressive. Seeking early medical consultation can help in proper diagnosis and treatment.' Dr Shirish M Hastak said, 'Did you know? Tremors are involuntary, rhythmic muscle movements that can impact the parts of the body, mainly the hands, arms, legs, head, or voice. They may occur at rest, during movement, or while maintaining a posture. Tremors can be classified into different types, with Parkinson's tremors being just one category among many. Not all tremors mean Parkinson's disease so please check with your Physician or neurologist.' Parkinson's disease affects movement, causing symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and slow movements. However, according to Dr Shirish M Hastak, various other conditions can lead to tremors - • Essential Tremor (ET): It is often mistaken for Parkinsonism. It usually affects the hands, head, or voice and worsens with movement, unlike Parkinson's tremor, which occurs more prominently at rest. • Physiological Tremor: Everyone experiences this mild, barely noticeable tremor during exams which can be induced due to stress, fatigue, caffeine, or anxiety. • Dystonic Tremor: Commonly seen in people with dystonia, a condition that causes involuntary muscle contractions, leading to abnormal movements. • Conditions like thyroid disorders, liver or kidney disease and low blood sugar levels can also lead to shaking and tremors. Dr Shirish M Hastak answered, 'Parkinson's tremors improve with movement, whereas essential tremors worsen with movement. Parkinsonian tremors usually start on one side of the body and progress gradually. Other symptoms accompany Parkinson's tremors, such as muscle stiffness, slowness of movement and balance problems.' Dr Shirish M Hastak shared, 'Neurological examination, MRI or CT scans to check for structural brain issues, Blood tests to examine thyroid, kidney and liver functions. Even Dopamine imaging scans (DaTscan) for detecting Parkinson's disease can be advised to the patient if there is uncertainty about the clinical diagnosis.' Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Dr Shirish M Hastak, said, 'For essential tremors, medications like beta-blockers or anticonvulsants can help. Lifestyle changes, stress management, and physical therapy can also be beneficial. In severe cases of essential tremors deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be considered. If tremors result from medication or metabolic disorders, addressing the root cause can often resolve the issue. With the appropriate approach, tremors can often be managed, allowing individuals to live without unnecessary fear or stress.' Talking about how lesioning surgery is also beneficial for some selected patients, Dr Shirish M Hastak said, 'This procedure stands out due to its immediate efficacy, affordability, and longevity. In patients who cannot, use a spoon or a glass due to severe tremors of the hand or the leg, this surgery can improve the quality of life. Lesioning surgery involves creating a small, controlled lesion in a highly targeted brain area.' He concluded, 'For patients who have struggled chronic symptoms of essential tremors for many years, the results are almost miraculous. Moreover, the reduced cost and shorter recovery time make it an accessible solution for many individuals who cannot afford deep brain stimulation. It represents a significant advancement in functional neurosurgery.' Note to readers: This article is for informational purposes only and not a substitute for professional medical advice.
