The award, which includes a CAD 50,000 cash prize, was formally presented at a ceremony in Toronto on May 22. The event was attended by Indo-Canadian leaders, entrepreneurs, and members of the community. CIF Chair Ritesh Malik and National Convenor Sunita Vyas presented the award.
Sadhguru dedicated the prize to the '
Calling' initiative, which aims to revitalise the Cauvery River and improve the livelihoods of millions of people in the region.
The project supports large-scale tree planting efforts in the river basin.
The award had been initially announced in October 2024. Speaking at the event, CIF chair Malik cited Sadhguru's work in addressing issues such as soil degradation, climate change, and mental health.
Following the ceremony, CIF posted on social media platform X and said, 'Extremely grateful, on behalf of the Indo-Canadian community, to have Sadhguru accept the Canada India Foundation's Global Indian of the Year award last evening. Sadhguru's message resonates deeply: a conscious and compassionate humanity is the way forward.'
The Canada India Foundation is a public policy think tank focused on strengthening Canada-India relations. Its Global Indian Award honours individuals of Indian origin who have made a significant impact globally.
