Bharat Summit brings 450+ delegates from 100 nations to Telangana to rethink global justice; opens with a candlelight vigil condemning the Pahalgam attack
The Bharat Summit in Telangana brought together over 450 delegates from 100 countries to advance global justice. Leaders adopted a 44-point agenda promoting equality, peace, and democracy, emphasizing empathy and collaboration to address global challenges while honoring India's legacy in justice and solidarity. India, May 29, 2025 -- 450+ global delegates, 100 nations, one united call — delivering global justice from Hyderabad to the world In what is probably one of the first of its kind conference, the Govt. of Telangana, India in collaboration with Samruddha Bharat Foundation, an NGO based in New Delhi, India, hosted the first edition of the Bharat Summit- a global conference to mark the 70th anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference that laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), bringing together over 450 delegates representing progressive parties from 100 countries to 'deliver global justice'. The Summit began with the INC along with participating political parties from over 100 nations joining a candle-light vigil, in solidarity with the victims of the terror attack in Pahalgam, J&K and registering a strong stance against cross border terrorism. The vigil, led by Telangana CM Revant Reddy, was joined by several senior Congress leaders like Salman Khurshid and Gurdeep Singh Sappal. The theme of the Summit, which included incumbent and former ministers from EU, Africa and Asia and the US as well heads of political parties and think tanks, was to rethink and deliver global justice- social, economic, ecological and geo-political. For the first time, international alliances like Progressive Alliance, Progressive International, NAM, SocDem and others shared a stage to address common threats and concerns facing countries globally. Apart from senior ministers of the Telangana Government and several prominent leaders from the Opposition alliance of India including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the Summit was attended by former ministers and incumbent members of Parliament from across the world. Anne Linde, Former Foreign Minister of Sweden, Bert Koenders, Former Foreign Minister, Netherlands, Jorge Taiana, Speaker of Mercosur, Former Foreign Minister & Former Defence Minister, Argentina, Monica Fein, President Socialist Party of Argentina, Arena Williams, MP, Labour Party, New Zealand were among some of the speakers and delegates at the Summit. Apart from the fact that the Summit hosted over 450 leaders from social-democratic parties to 'rethink global justice', the Summit's timing was significant since it was organised to mark 70 years of the Bandung Conference. But while the Bandung Conference was attended by 29 parties and the NAM hosted 56 parties, the Bharat Summit expanded its umbrella to bring within its ambit over 100 countries from 5 continents. In a significant milestone, Congress leaders and global delegates collectively adopted the Hyderabad Resolution, a 44-point agenda under the theme 'Delivering Global Justice'. The resolution reaffirms a shared commitment to the values of freedom, equality, justice, and solidarity, uniting social-democratic, socialist, and labour movements from around the world. Key agenda items include reshaping the economic paradigm, advancing environmental justice, striving for gender equality and social inclusion, defending democracy and social justice, working for peace and human security, and reforming global institutions. Underscoring the common concerns of rollback of democratic rights and freedom, of the sustained attack on civil liberties, undermining of institutions, disregarding multilateral agreements, spreading lies and fuel division, the Resolution highlights the role it envisages for the progressives to collectively take on. Senior Congress Leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi delivered a powerful address reflecting on the changing nature of democratic politics around the world. He called for a political shift from fear and hatred to listening, empathy, and love. 'Democratic politics has fundamentally changed. The rules that applied a decade ago don't work anymore,' Gandhi said, pointing to how concentrated capital and media control have reshaped the political landscape. 'This is the new politics—where the opposition is not engaged with but crushed. All our avenues were compromised, including the media. That's when we reached back into history and decided to walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir—a 4,000-kilometre journey.' Reflecting on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi shared two key lessons: 'First, our opponents have a monopoly on anger and fear—we cannot fight them on that ground. But during the yatra, I discovered the transformative power of listening. I spoke less and listened more, and that changed everything.' The second lesson, he said, was about embracing love in politics. 'Until the yatra, I had never used the word 'love' in politics. But once I did, people began to respond. Love and affection can disrupt hate more powerfully than any argument.' Rahul Gandhi concluded by saying, 'Disagreements on policy will always exist. But while their lens is anger, hatred, and fear, our lens must be love, affection, and deep listening. I am confident this summit will help build the ideas we need for a new kind of politics in India and the world.' Agreeing with the vision of the Bharat Summit, Senior German politician Lars Klingbeil of the Social Democratic Party said, 'The topics being discussed at the Bharat Summit are closely related to the issues we are facing in Germany. Our international rules-based order has come under great pressure. There are attempts to disrupt this order and to replace the 'rule of law' with the 'rule of might.' These developments must stop.' Wayne Swan, National President of the Labor Party and former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, said, 'We believe in the power of public policy to change people's lives. In this era of hyper-individualism and the growing influence of oligarchs, it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure economic equality.' He also added that party activism has never been more important, particularly in the face of rising fascism and the concentration of power among oligarchs in countries like the United States. Telangana Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy, addressing international delegates, showcased his government's progressive welfare policies. 'We have implemented the largest farmer debt waiver in India—Rs 20,674 crore—and provide over Rs 20,000 crore annually in agricultural subsidies,' he said. Highlighting women's empowerment, he added, 'Our women entrepreneurs are competing with Adani and Ambani.' Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka noted that the presence of over 450 international delegates had provided the right platform to exchange ideas on global justice and peace, in alignment with Rahul Gandhi's vision of NYAY. Inclusivity one step to gender justice, say speakers
HYDERABAD: Panama's Minister for Women's Affairs María Alejandra Panay called for better pay equity, improved digital access, and greater representation of women in science and leadership. Highlighting the systemic inequalities faced by women in Latin America, she said: 'One in three women experience sexual harassment. And many indigenous, migrant and young women remain invisible in mainstream policymaking.' On Friday, leaders from various countries attended a panel discussion on Justice and a Feminist Future, under the theme 'Delivering Global Justice' at the Bharat Summit 2025. Congress MP Praniti Shinde spoke on the need for structural reform in implementing inclusivity, particularly concerning the LGBTQ+ community. Citing Telangana's Mythri scheme, which supports transpersons in law enforcement roles, she stated, 'We need less talk and more action. Inclusion must be visible in employment, budgeting, and governance.' Former Union minister MM Pallam Raju referred to policy frameworks such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Right to Education Act and the Mahalakshmi scheme, which offers free bus travel for women in Telangana. He said education and mobility play a vital role in community upliftment. 'When a woman in a family is educated, the whole family gets educated,' he said, noting the wider impact of women's empowerment on social and economic development. Former Union minister Salman Khurshid advocated tax incentives to increase women's employment and questioned the underrepresentation of women in heavy industries such as infrastructure. 'Women must be part of every sector. The answer is not just the right laws—but the right mindset—and the right men who stand for this cause,' he said. Former Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde spoke of the challenges in Europe, particularly declining birth rates and structural disincentives for working women. She called for tax policy reforms and stressed the urgent need for universal childcare. 'If families cannot combine work and parenting, gender equality will remain out of reach,' she said, adding that any backlash against feminism must be firmly countered. The session was attended by Rabia Abdallah, senior leader from Tanzania's Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM); Monica Fein, a Socialist Party politician from Argentina; Hamid Maysoon; Wael Alatoom; and Undram Chinbat, an MP from Mongolia. Rahul, Kharge in Kashmir, summit plenary postponed The Bharat Summit-2025 commenced in Hyderabad on Friday with delegates from various countries participating in the discussions on a range of current issues. However, the plenary session was postponed to Saturday as AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi travelled to Srinagar to meet those injured in the Pahalgam terrorist and Rahul were expected to deliver the keynote addresses. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was also absent due to the rescheduling of the plenary session. The inaugural day included panel discussions on topics such as Gender Justice and a Feminist Future, Fact vs Fiction: Countering Disinformation, Youth and Politics of Tomorrow, and Shaping New Multilateralism. Speakers — leaders, policymakers and experts across various sectors — on each panel shared their respective views during the sessions. Organisers, including Congress leaders and state government officials, welcomed the participants at the start of the summit. AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, several ministers, MPs and MLAs were present at the summit on the first day. Saturday's agenda includes panel discussions on Overcoming Polarisation with Pluralism, Diversity and Respect, Accelerating Climate Justice, Economic Justice in Uncertain Times, and Peace and Justice in a Multipolar World. The summit will conclude with a valedictory session, following which delegates are expected to visit the Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar at Shilparamam. 'Youth gravitating towards far right a disturbing trend' During a panel discussion on 'Youth and the Politics of Tomorrow', organised as part of Bharat Summit, young political leaders, scholars and activists from across the world tackled some of the most pressing issues facing global youth today: climate change, inequality, political polarisation and civic disengagement. The session featured participants from India, New Zealand, Latin American and several other countries, each bringing their own unique perspectives shaped by their cultural and political landscapes. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MP G Vamshi Krishna, MLC Balmoor Venkat, NSUI president Varun Choudhary, New Zealand MP Arena Williams, Liinesh Selluandan, Maina Hay, James Steve Serrano and Jesus Tapia participated in the panel discussion. Panelists expressed serious concern over about growing political polarisation, particularly among youth. 'There's a disturbing trend of young boys gravitating toward the far right, fuelled by social media algorithms that reward sensationalism over substance,' said the New Zealand MP Arena Williams. This phenomenon, she noted, is reshaping democratic discourse and influencing voting behaviour in dangerous ways. Answering a question on nepotism in politics, minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that there were many leaders like him who have come from grassroots without any backing. He said that youth should take part in the parliamentary proceedings. The discussion concluded with a strong consensus: young people are not just stakeholders in future policies -- they are essential participants in shaping them now.

From Dubai to world: Peace summit declares vision for harmony, equality
Dubai: As many as 12 Nobel Laureates promoted unity and compassion through a Peace Charter at the Global Justice, Love, and Peace Summit – one of the the world's largest peace conferences. Titled 'A Love Letter to Humanity', the charter highlighted that true peace can only thrive when guided by fairness, open dialogue, and an unwavering dedication to justice, love, and freedom. Peaceful means 'It will be our wisdom that will bring about and strengthen peace among nations and will promote and ensure respect and human rights for everyone. It will be our wisdom that will allow us to resolve conflicts through peaceful means,' Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Co-existence, in his keynote address. Citing examples of the UAE leadership's wisdom, Sheikh Nahayan noted that it has made the UAE a country of progress, prosperity, and stability. Economic prosperity 'It will be our wisdom that will ensure an economic prosperity that will reach everyone in the future and lead to better living conditions for all regions of the world,' he said, noting: 'Our wisdom that will make our cultural, economic and religious diversity a basis for mutual respect and for enhancing our capacity to bring great change as we act together.' The charter by the Nobel Laureates will be presented to the United Nations, according to Dr Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Chairman of the 'I am Peacekeeper' Movement. Joint Charter The joint charter stated in its preamble: 'Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, love, and peace, commit to upholding the principles that foster harmony, progress, and human equality for all. We believe that true peace can only thrive when guided by fairness, open dialogue, and unwavering dedication to justice, love, and freedom.' The Nobel Laureates who took the historic peace pledge included human rights activist Abdessattar Ben Moussa, educationist Houcine Abbasi (both from Tunisia), Jose Ramos-Horta, President of East Timor, Indian social activist Kailash Satyarthi, Lech Wałęsa, former President of Poland, Leymah Gbowee from Liberia, and Mohamed Fadhel Mahfoudh, President of the Tunisian Order of Lawyers, among others.
