DEWA Wins Global Energy Infrastructure Award for Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made history by becoming the first utility in the Middle East and North Africa to win the Energy Infrastructure Award at the prestigious 2024 S&P Global Platts Energy Awards.
The recognition was granted for DEWA's flagship project, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park—the world's largest single-site solar park.
Selected from over 1,000 leading energy companies, DEWA's win highlights its pioneering role in renewable energy and infrastructure development. The Platts Global Energy Awards, hosted annually by S&P Global Commodity Insights, are often referred to as the 'Oscars of the energy industry.' The awards recognise outstanding contributions to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the energy sector across several categories.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, accepted the award and noted that this global honour reflects the UAE's commitment to sustainable excellence. 'Receiving the Energy Infrastructure Award underscores DEWA's pioneering role in innovation and renewable and clean energy. This achievement is a testament to the tireless dedication and hard work of DEWA's entire team,' Al Tayer said.
He added that DEWA's work is aligned with both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to achieve 100% clean energy capacity by 2050.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park currently boasts a production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW) using both photovoltaic and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. By 2030, the planned capacity is set to reach 7,260 MW. The park's fourth phase alone has broken four Guinness World Records, showcasing the project's scale and technological advancement.
This global accolade places DEWA among the world's top innovators in energy infrastructure and reinforces Dubai's leadership in clean energy transformation.
