Walker rescued from steep-sided valley in Peak District

A stranded walker was rescued from a steep-sided valley in the Peak Mountain Rescue was called on Saturday evening after a "well-equipped walker" got into difficulty in a valley on Kinder Scout, Derbyshire. Mountain rescue volunteers set off up Blackden Clough to find and rescue the walker, who was described as being severely hypoglycaemic and potentially rescue team said the search was "short-lived" as the walker guided the volunteers with their torch, but the descent was "quite arduous", with the team standing down at about 01:00 BST on Sunday.

A walker died after falling from the top of a waterfall in the Peak District, mountain rescue volunteers have said. Kinder Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) said it was called to Kinder Scout Downfall on Monday 30 June to reports the walker had a post on social media a week later, the organisation said it attended the scene but found he had not survived the said Derbyshire Police had requested they retrieve him from the base of waterfall. A coastguard helicopter was called to assist with the 10-hour operation which was also attended by Buxton Mountain Rescue's drone team and Glossop Mountain Rescue Team KMRT post said: "When the helicopter arrived, conditions proved to be too challenging to winch directly from the base of the Downfall. "So the team performed a difficult stretcher carry to a lower location where he could be collected by the helicopter and flown to our vehicles."This was a challenging 10-hour incident for all involved."We would like to thank the group of walkers who called in the incident for their assistance. The team would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the walker's family."

A coastguard helicopter was also used to retrieve the body, alongside a drone team from Buxton and Glossop Mountain Rescue. A huge team of 31 workers were part of the recovery effort, including Kinder Mountain Rescue and the Derbyshire police. The mountain rescue team released a statement following the incident.
