'Celtic need to take a leaf out of Rangers' book on transfers'
Celtic have been told they need to be more like rivals Rangers in the way they conduct their transfer business. Go Ahead Eagles chairman Jan Willem van Dop says he has had dealings with both Glasgow clubs in recent weeks and found a stark difference between the two. Van Dop said at the end of July that the club would only sell one of wingers Oliver Antman and Jakob Breum this summer. Rangers were linked with Antman, while he said Celtic had made contact about Breum. Since then, Antman has completed a move to Ibrox and made his debut, and an instant impact, in the Champions League qualifier against Viktoria Plzen. Breum remains a Go Ahead player, while Celtic have been criticised for their lack of major signings in the transfer window so far. The Dutch club's chairman says Celtic's offer was nowhere near Go Ahead's valuation of Breum, and advised the club to up their game if they want to land their targets. 'Celtic showed some interest in Jakob Breum, but we felt that the gap between us was too wide,' Van Dop told Algemeen Dagblad. 'Things moved very quickly with Oliver Antman and Glasgow Rangers. Celtic could have taken a leaf out of Rangers' book, haha.' Speaking last week, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear he wanted new players in, and that he wanted to continue to deliver improvements on the squad and in results. 'I am not here to maintain levels, this is a really fast moving club and you have to keep moving quickly,' he said. 'It's one of the biggest clubs in world football and there is always a demand and an expectation, and the only way to get better is to keep improving and developing. 'The message to the supporters is that everyone here will be doing our upmost to improve on last season, and it's a really exciting season ahead, and if we can add where we need to add then it can be even better for us. 'For clarity, I love being here, yes there has been some challenges on the pitch, and off the pitch, since I have arrived, but that is management, that is coaching, but in the main I have absolutely loved it here and will continue to do so for however long that is. 'But, there has to be that ambition from everyone, it's no good just the manager having it and the players not, or whatever else, everything has to be aligned. I know that the club are also very keen to progress and develop. Expert brands Rangers' Oliver Antman coup as €28m 'robbery'
And if the Dutch club were to replace the winger with the same standard of player, it would cost them an eye-watering €28m. That's according to a European football scouting expert. Joost van der Leij has taken to social media to detail just how much of a coup Rangers' new signing is for the Ibrox club. He insists that Go Ahead will have a tough task on their hands to find a value-for-money replacement, while stating Rangers will be 'very happy' with their new Finnish recruit. He wrote on X: "We already liked Oliver Antman a lot, but I didn't expect Oliver Antman to do this good. "Because he was a superstar winger in the Dutch Eredivisie in 24/25 with very high finishing probability and very high defending probability at the same time. Read more: "He even has decent passing game probability. "Replacement value for Go Ahead Eagles is a stunning: €28,785,876! He just went to Rangers for £4.4m. "Rangers robbed the living daylights out of Go Ahead. "Best transfer to Scotland I have looked at so far. Rangers is probably going to be very happy with him."

Jakob Breum admits transfer could happen amid Celtic talk
This comes as Celtic remain in talks with the Dutch club over a deal for the Danish winger. However, it seems unlikely that the Scottish Premiership champions will secure a deal, as the Eredivisie side are unwilling to sell for less than £5 million. Celtic's latest bid was around £1.5 million. Breum, who played in Go Ahead's narrow defeat to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, says his future remains uncertain after a successful debut season in the Netherlands. The 21-year-old told ESPN: "Time will tell. "There's still one month left, but as long as I'm here, I'll do my best. "It's a boring answer, but that's the way it is. "Now that important players have left, other players have to step up."

Celtic get boost in pursuit of top transfer target as agent ‘hopes he'll go in that direction'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A TOP Celtic transfer target's path to Parkhead just became a whole lot easier... Because his agent is understood to be trying to push the move through himself. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up The Hoops have been linked with Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakob Breum this week. It emerged that Celtic had lodged a bid for the player last month. But it was understood to have been 'laughingly rejected' by the Dutch club. Brendan Rodgers & co remain interested however, despite the fact they have some serious competition when it comes to the bidding war. The Parkhead outfit's initial £1.5million offer was considered derisory and Twente Enschede entered the race with an improved bid. However, revealing quotes from Go Ahead's chief executive Willem van Dop suggest that the player's preference is for a move to Scotland. Via Sport Witness, Van Dop said: 'I've told Celtic that we won't be accepting their offer. 'But I spoke to Breum's agent on the phone Monday morning, and he hopes he'll go in that direction. 'We're certainly not the most difficult club, but it has to be a good fit. 'And if we can't reach a financial agreement, we also have the right to say: well, it's not going to happen.' Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy Reports earlier this week claimed that Rangers were plotting a move for Breum's team mate and fellow wide man Oliver Antman. But Go Ahead have made it clear they would only consider selling one of them. Breum, 21, joined the Eredivisie side in 2023 from OB in his homeland of Denmark. The Danish youth international has since made 58 league appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals. He can operate as a winger and as a number ten, indeed flourishing in the latter role for the majority of last season. Elsewhere, Celtic are willing to let defender Stephen Welsh leave and a loan deal with Plymouth Argyle in League One is reportedly close to completion. 1 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
