Cooper DeJean humiliates Patrick Mahomes with petty autograph stunt after embarrassing him in Super Bowl blowout
Eagles' Cooper DeJean ignited a rivalry spark by signing a Patrick Mahomes card with "Go Birds!" (Getty Images) At Fanatics Fest in New York City, Philadelphia Eagles breakout star Cooper DeJean added a spark of rivalry to the offseason when he was handed a Patrick Mahomes football card to sign. Rather than just penning his name, the defensive back left a bold and cheeky two-word message: "Go Birds!"—a clear nod to the Eagles and a subtle jab at the Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback whom DeJean intercepted during Super Bowl LIX. The signature that stirred headlines after Eagles' dominant Super Bowl win DeJean's autograph wouldn't have raised eyebrows if it were just a name, but given the history between the two players, the added message instantly became viral. The young cornerback's pick-six off Mahomes was a defining moment in the Eagles' 40-22 thrashing of the Chiefs on football's biggest stage earlier this year. As fans swarmed social media, one posted an image of the signed Mahomes card with DeJean's message loud and clear: "Go Birds!" What might seem like a small move was packed with meaning—after all, DeJean's interception was not only a highlight of his career but also a dagger to the Chiefs' hopes in that Super Bowl. Cooper DeJean credits Vic Fangio and defensive unity for Patrick Mahomes' struggles Reflecting on that performance, DeJean had high praise for the Eagles' defensive coordinator: "Yeah, I think it's the way he calls the game… We play a lot of zone, and we work well together as a defense. That's a credit to him." The 22-year-old also emphasized how little they had to blitz: "We might have blitzed one time the whole game. Those guys were getting pressure like crazy." Their cohesion was clear. After DeJean became a starter in Week 6, the Eagles gave up significantly fewer points and yards per game, a trend that peaked in their Super Bowl performance. To his credit, Mahomes owned up to the loss after the game: 'Obviously, the turnovers hurt and I take all the blame for that… Just didn't play to my standard and I have to be better next time.' Eagles Star Takes Subtle Shot at Chiefs Before NFL Season
Eagles Star Takes Subtle Shot at Chiefs Before NFL Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There were certainly a lot of contributors in the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, but there's no doubt that cornerback Cooper DeJean was one of the biggest. Advertisement He wound up returning three punts for 27 yards, recording three tackles, one pass deflection and one pick-6 off quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter, which, after the extra point, helped them snag a 17-0 lead. Of course, their win meant Philadelphia earned bragging rights over Kansas City and the players are certainly using them, because on Monday, a video of DeJean circulated on social media of him writing "Go Birds!" on a Mahomes trading card. There's no doubt that DeJean also earned his right to trash-talk even one of the league's best because not only did he produce on the biggest stage, but he's also coming off a great rookie season. Advertisement He appeared in 16 regular-season games with nine starts, allowing 45 receptions, 374 yards and zero touchdowns on 68 targets while also racking up 51 tackles, six pass deflections and three fumble recoveries. DeJean's contributions were a big piece to the Eagles finishing the year ranked first in total yards per game allowed (278.4) and second in points per game allowed (17.8). As the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive back joined a ton of pro athletes at 'Fanatics Fest' in New York, the cornerback was asked by a fan to sign a trading card. It wasn't DeJean's card—it was a card of his latest opponent, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. When DeJean was presented with the card to sign, he stared at it with confusion. Eventually, he cracked a smile, before deciding what he was going to do with it. While DeJean signed the card, he ended up writing a classic Philly-style message right above his signature. The soon-to-be-sophomore defensive back decorated the card with a "Go Birds" message. Emmitt Smith admits Eagles fans are making Cowboys' Super Bowl drought feel worse: 'I'm sick of it'
Emmitt Smith has never had what you would call a friendly relationship with Philadelphia Eagles fans, but his team's division rival winning two Super Bowls apparently hasn't helped. The Dallas Cowboys legend had some pointed complaints on Tuesday when asked about his team's Super Bowl drought by a Dallas radio station: "I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it for two reasons. One, we have allowed others to come and nitpick at the star and make fun of the star and that's what happens when you give other people, or other organizations — now all of a sudden over the last 20 years they win two Super Bowls and think they're the best thing on the doggone planet, and everywhere I go I hear, 'Go Birds.' I'm sick of hearing, 'Go Birds.' I'm always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to get to us. "That part bugs me. It bugs me because in my heart I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade because every team recycles every decade. So for us not to be there over the last 30 years is a crying shame." In case you need reminding, the Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since their title after the 1995-96 season. What's more, they have not reached an NFC championship game in that span of time, the longest such drought in the conference, despite a long-running status as the most valuable team in sports. Meanwhile, the Eagles and New York Giants have each won two Super Bowls. The other NFC East team, the Washington Commanders, has an even longer Super Bowl drought, but they can at least say they're looking much better for the long term than the Cowboys these days. And that they played in the NFC championship game last year.
