Chiefs fail to match Packers in three-peat territory, and fans reacted accordingly after Super Bowl
"Not Like Us."
That seemed to be the sentiment for prideful Green Bay Packers fans after the Kansas City Chiefs' 3-peat quest was denied Sunday night in Super Bowl 59. The Packers can send their thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Led by Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts and a dominant defense that forced three turnovers and smothered Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles soared to their second Super Bowl championship in a runaway 40-22 victory at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
That outcome, of course, meant the Chiefs came up short in becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles.
Many Packers fans don't appear too mad at that outcome. The Packers' two 3-peats from a previous era first in 1929-31 and then in 1965-1967 appeared to be getting ignored in the lead up to the game.
Late in the game, the Fox broadcast recognized the Bart Starr-led Packers as the last NFL team to accomplish a 3-peat. Yes, the first title in that stretch fell prior to the advent of the Super Bowl, but the Packers were champions of the NFL in three straight years, regardless.
Packers supporters on social media were quick to make note of this on Sunday night. And some used Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us" that he performed during the Super Bowl halftime show to prop up the Packers' unmatched history in comparison to the Chiefs:
