Inside Russell Martin's phone call with Rangers predecessor

The club legend stepped into the Ibrox hot seat back in February for four months after Philippe Clement was sacked. Ferguson wanted the job on a permanent basis this summer. However, the club's new American-based ownership conducted the recruitment process for a new head coach, and ex-Southampton boss Martin prevailed as the top candidate. Read more: Now, Ferguson has revealed that he recently spoke to Martin for the first time since all of the recent goings-on. And he has backed him to be a success in his new gig at Rangers. "I like the way he speaks to the press, I've spoke to him privately and it was the first time I spoke to him," Ferguson told Go Radio's Football Show. "I came off the phone with him and I was impressed by him. "He gets it, he understands it, I think if something doesn't go right he'll go and fix it."

The actor, who has played Bob O'Hara since the series launched in 2002, is joining The Go Radio Breakfast Show from Monday onwards. Credit: Tom Farmer Purdon, 42, will be joined by co-host Zoe Kelly on the station's Breakfast Show weekdays from 6am to 10am. He said: "I'm buzzing to be joining the Go Radio family. "I've been a Go Radio listener since the station launched and getting the chance to wake up Glasgow and the West with lots of laughs and chat is a dream come true.' Grado, 37, has hosted the programme alongside Zoe for the last few years but has quietly stepped aside as his friend replaces him on the airwaves. A source close to the Two Doors Down actor said: "It's lovely news that Grado's good mate has taken over the baton at Go Radio and he wishes him all the best." James Maguire, Programme Controller at Go Radio, added: 'From his role in River City to his annual Pavilion Theatre panto performances, Stephen is a natural entertainer with a genuine love for Glasgow and its people. "We're delighted to welcome him to the Go Radio Breakfast Show – it's going to bring a new dynamic to the show's existing winning formula of great chat, music, news and competitions.' We recently revealed that Grado hopes to make a ruthless return to River City - by killing his mate. The wrestler turned actor enjoyed a brief Shieldinch stint in 2014 when he joined the cast as a bonkers grappler named Buster. Grado, real name Graeme Stevely, said: 'My ideal storyline is for me to come back and kill Bob. Moment Grado brings back iconic character at Ayr races 'I would choke him to death in the wrestling ring in Shieldinch Town Hall. 'Can you imagine? The ratings would be so good if that happened that they'd maybe keep it going.' Buster was last seen heading for Las Vegas to pursue his professional wrestling dream. But while Grado's River City stint ended rather quickly, his friendship with Stephen has stayed strong. They barely knew one another when they met on set and have now spent years performing as one of Scotland's most popular panto duo's. The pair also host the hilarious Pint and Two Shots podcast alongside comedian Chris Toal.

Alba leader calls for public inquiry into Alex Salmond 'conspiracy'

The Alba Party leader has claimed there was a plot to bring down Salmond and has called for a public inquiry. MacAskill, who served under Salmond as justice secretary, told Go Radio: 'I think there has to be an inquiry because what happened to Alex Salmond was fundamentally wrong. 'I think what we are seeing is obfuscation, to put it mildly, by the Scottish Government. There can be no cover up in Holyrood or in St Andrew's House. 'We require to know who did what, what was done, if that impacts upon Alex so be it, but I don't believe it does. I believe it will vindicate him because a manifest injustice was done towards him.' Asked whether Sturgeon was a part of a conspiracy against Salmond, MacAskill (above) added: 'I believe so. There was a political conspiracy to do down Alex Salmond. 'I have no doubt that was a factor in his early death. He wasn't even 70 but what he had to endure. 'But he was vindicated in the civil courts with the Scottish Government chastised in the highest court in our land and in the criminal court a jury of his peers exculpated him.' Sturgeon has previously denied claims she orchestrated a conspiracy to bring down her one-time mentor. READ MORE: Tony Blair's staff took part in 'Gaza Riviera' project, reports say She has faced questions in the past about her involvement with the sexual harassment claims against Salmond which eventually led to his criminal trial. Salmond was handed a legal victory in a civil case against the Scottish Government over claims of sexual harassment which a court found to be 'tainted with apparent bias' because the person investigating the complaints had had contact with the complainers prior to the probe. He was later cleared of 14 charges – sexual and indecent assault and intent to rape – in March 2020. At the time of his death, Salmond (above) was pursuing the Scottish Government for damages of £3 million due to the botched investigation of sexual harassment complaints against him. Speaking in Parliament in 2019, Sturgeon said: 'It seems to me that I am being simultaneously accused of being involved in a conspiracy against Alex Salmond, and also of colluding with Alex Salmond. 'Nothing could be further from the truth in both of those - neither of those things are true. 'Since I found out about the investigation I have tried to do the right thing in a situation which, no matter what happened, was never going to be easy for me.'
