Plans for new 132-home village estate approved

Plans for a new 132-home estate in a Shropshire village have been approved. Shropshire Council has given the go-ahead for the housing scheme to be built on land north of Thomas Penson Road in Gobowen. Developers Persimmon said the project would see a mixture of properties, ranging from one to five-bed homes, built on a 15 acre (6 hectare) plot of land between the A5 and the Shrewsbury railway line. The area of arable land forms a "logical extension" to the village, the company added. Documents show that nearly a third of the site will be earmarked for open space, with a "central green" located to the south-east. About 10% of the properties will also be a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership. Persimmon added that sustainability is at the "forefront" of the design, with every house being fitted with an electric vehicle charging point. Gobowen Parish Council objected to the plans, voicing concerns over flooding after having four instances in the village in the past year. However, a council officer recommended that the plans be approved as the site was already allocated for housing in the authority's local plan.
