AIL awards: Dan Goggin named Division 1A player of season
The former Munster centre Dan Goggin has been named as the Division 1A player of the season at the annual Energia All-Ireland League awards after a superb first season with St Mary's College. Goggin helped the newly promoted club earn a home semi-final in their first season back in the top flight after a seven-year absence. As well as his big ball-carrying and try-scoring exploits in his customary position of inside centre, Goggin underlined his value when moving to number eight for his team's run-in. The Men's and Women's Coach of the Year Awards went to Quenton O'Neale of Old Belvedere, the runaway Division 1B champions, and Jason Moreton of Wicklow respectively. Eilís Cahill from UL Bohemian was awarded the Women's AIL Player of the Year to augment her match-winning in the last play of the final against Railway Union. Along with many other jobs within the club, Cathal is the minis coach to the under-8s, assistant secretary, and was pivotal in structuring a pathway for the under-21s team for next season. Lancashire surgeons celebrate 1,000th robotic prostate surgery
A team of surgeons at a hospital trust are celebrating performing their 1,000th prostatectomy using robotic Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been using the Da Vinci Xi robotic system for complete or partial prostate removals since 2017. Surgeons at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital conducted the milestone surgery on patient James Smolski, his consultant urologist, said he was pleased to say "it all went as planned". The Da Vinci Xi system was largely funded by a £1.25m donation from Rosemere Cancer consultant urologist told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Compared with the previous ways of doing surgery robotic surgeries have got significant advantages."Procedures could be quicker, but the main aspects are that we can do it through only tiny few incisions of the abdomen."He said that "meant less pain, less blood loss, quicker recovery" and patients being discharged within 24 hours. "In the longer term we know the patient will have a better rate of continence and often erectile functions as well," he said. He added more than 90% of patients will have a very good continence rate after surgery. Mr Goggin said he was pleased to have the procedure using the technology, "particularly as... the old way sounded quite awful in terms of recovery time". Artist Uses Footprints to Craft Giant Moose Mural in Canada Snow
An artist spent three hours creating a giant mural of a moose on a snow-covered lake in eastern Canada. Drone footage captured by graphic artist Eric Goggin in early February shows Goggin creating the mural by stomping on snow covering Washademoak Lake in New Brunswick. 'You can't mistake a moose, and it's such a Canadian symbol, representative of the great outdoors,' Goggin told CTV News. In the report, Goggin said he used the drone's monitor to guide him as he kicked the snow from the lake's icy surface.
