'The Masked Singer' winner revealed: See who was under Pearl's costume

Season 13 of "The Masked Singer" came to a climactic end May 7. The reality singing competition, which spices up a well-worn format by putting its contestants in elaborate disguises, entered its final episode of the year with just four candidates left. Pearl, Boogie Woogie, Mad Scientist and Coral, all nicknames for the costumes the celebrities don for their performances, duked it out in one final showdown − the winner nabbing the Golden Mask trophy and being forced to reveal themselves. 'The Masked Singer' winner Vanessa Hudgens reveals if she plans on returning to music Pearl ultimately reigned triumphant, impressing judges with a rendition of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." Judges and viewers alike are kept in the dark on the identities of the masked singers, given clues on what (usually mid-profile) name they might be and tasked with recognizing their voice sight unseen. Pear turned out to be country star Gretchen Wilson, an early-2000s staple, whose song "Redneck Woman" became an anthem. Wilson, who stumped almost all the judges (aside from Robin Thicke), said after her win that she had done the show to build confidence after a difficult couple of years. "I've had a rough couple of years," she said. "I was injured, I was in a wheelchair and there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place. I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far." "This opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do," she continued. After Wilson's win, the other finalists also demasked. Boogie Woogie was singer Andy Grammer, Coral was "Zombies" actress Meg Donnelly and Mad Scientist was former Florida Georgia Line member Brian Kelley. Other masked stars this season included Flavor Flav, James Van Der Beek and Candace Cameron Bure. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Who is Pearl on 'The Masked Singer?' More from GoldDerby "I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far," Wilson told host Nick Cannon about her struggles in her personal life. "This opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do." When asked about how this TMS honor compares to others in her life, such as winning a Grammy for "Redneck Woman," the 51-year-old artist declared, "My greatest accomplishment obviously is my daughter ... but this is definitely something for the books." SEEWhy 'The Masked Singer' is taking a longer-than-ever break after Season 13 Every year on The Masked Singer, a gaggle of secret celebrities in extravagant costumes compete to win the coveted Golden Mask. Fox's wild and wacky reality TV who-sung-it began as a mild curiosity in 2019, but soon grew to become one of television's most-watched shows. Fans at home analyze every clue and costume detail as they try to guess who's hiding behind the masks. But in the end, only one celeb is named the winner by a combination of votes from the studio audience and panelists Robin Thicke, Jennifer McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, and Rita Ora. Season 1: T-Pain as Monster This rapper and hit-making producer made history as the first winner of The Masked Singer on Feb. 27, 2019. None of the panelists correctly guessed T-Pain was really the Monster, making it one of the most shocking reveals of all time. The runner-up that season was Donny Osmond as Peacock. Season 2: Wayne Brady as Fox This five-time Emmy winner, comedian, and Broadway star had developed a plan from day one to confuse the panel and lead them to believe he was Jamie Foxx. It worked ... sort of. In the Dec. 18, 2019, finale, Jenny and Ken both picked Jamie as their final guess, while Robin and Nicole both knew Wayne Brady was the Fox. The runner-up that season was Chris Daughtry as Rottweiler. Season 3: Kandi Burruss as Night Angel At long last, a woman took home the Golden Mask on May 20, 2020. The Night Angel was revealed to be business mogul/Grammy-winning songwriter/realty TV star Kandi Burruss, as correctly guessed by Robin and Jenny. The runner-up that season was Jesse McCartney as Turtle. Season 4: LeAnn Rimes as Sun Country superstar LeAnn Rimes became the second female winner after claiming the Golden Mask on Dec. 16, 2020. Both Jenny and Nicole correctly named the Sun's true identity as the former child singer. The runner-up that season was Aloe Blacc as Mushroom. Season 5: Nick Lachey as Piglet Nick Lachey became the fifth champion when he claimed the Golden Mask on May 26, 2021. Only Jenny was savvy enough to name the boy band singer as her first impression, winning her a second consecutive Golden Ear trophy. 'This experience has [reminded] me how much I love singing, how much I love music,' the artist formerly known as Piglet said as the final credits rolled. The runner-up that season was JoJo as Black Swan. Season 6: Jewel as Queen of Hearts Jewel became the sixth champion when she claimed the Golden Mask on Dec. 15, 2021. None of the panelists correctly guessed the music superstar as their first impressions, however all but Ken switched to her for their final picks. 'It really is an honor to be in the hall of costumes and with the other amazing winners,' said the artist formerly known as the Queen of Hearts. The runner-up that season was Todrick Hall as Bull. Season 7: Teyana Taylor as Firefly Teyana Taylor became the seventh champion when she claimed the Golden Mask on May 18, 2022. In the grand finale of this Good, Bad, and Cuddly cycle, both Robin and Jenny correctly guessed the singer-songwriter-actress-dancer was hiding underneath the Firefly mask. The runner-up that season was Hayley Orrantia as Ringmaster. Season 8: Amber Riley as Harp Amber Riley became the eighth champion when she claimed the Golden Mask on November 30, 2022. In the grand finale of this Queens and Kings edition, only Nicole was savvy enough to correctly guess the Glee star was masquerading as the golden instrument. The runner-up that season was Wilson Phillips as Lambs. Season 9: Bishop Briggs as Medusa Bishop Briggs became the ninth champion when she claimed the Golden Mask on May 17, 2023. Amazingly, she was supposed to unmask during the third episode of the season, but was saved when the judges rang the 'Ding Dong Keep It On' Bell. Nicole was the only panelist to name the British singer in the finale. The runner-up that season was David Archuleta as Macaw. Season 10: Ne-Yo as Cow Ne-Yo became the 10th champion when he claimed the Golden Mask on December 20, 2023. Both Nicole and Robin correctly guessed that the three-time Grammy winner was hiding underneath the female cow costume. The runner-up that season was John Schneider as Donut. Season 11: Vanessa Hudgens as Goldfish Vanessa Hudgens became the 11th champion when she claimed the Golden Mask on May 22, 2024. New judge Rita and Jenny both correctly guessed that the High School Musical star was hiding underneath the fish costume. The runner-up that season was Scott Porter as Gumball. Season 12: Boyz II Men as Buffalos Boyz II Men became the 12th champion when they claimed the Golden Mask on Dec. 18, 2024. They're the first group ever to win the Fox singing competition. All of the judges were able to guess the identity of this Grammy-winning trio. There is no mistaking those voices! The runner-up that season was Mario as Wasp. Season 13: Gretchen Wilson as Pearl The underwater jewel opened up during the 13th cycle by belting out the following songs: "Saving All My Love for You," "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Here You Come Again," "Conga," "Your Love," "You Don't Own Me," "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," and "I'll Stand by You." Ken Jeong Is Convinced ‘Masked Singer' Contestant Is Kieran Culkin in Season 13 Sneak Peek

Ken Jeong is placing his bets on Kieran Culkin as being one of the contestants taking the stage for The Masked Singer season 13 premiere. 'I know exactly who this is,' Ken, 55, told the crowd in a sneak peek of the February 12 premiere of the show shared by TV Insider. 'This is Kieran Culkin of Succession, and the connection to Steve Martin is Father of the Bride.' The season 13 premiere will be the introduction of five new singers: Ant, Coral, Paparazzo, Fuzzy Peas and Honey Pot, as they compete for the highly coveted Golden Mask trophy. The 10 remaining singers will be introduced in later episodes. Ken joins panelists Robin Thicke, Rita Ora and Jenny McCarthy as they try to identify the celebrities hidden beneath elaborate costumes while performing songs. When Jenny, 52, asked The Hangover star if he was sure Kieran, 42, could sing, he replied, 'He's an Emmy winner. He can do it all.' Season 13 is set to start with a bang as the show will open up with a performance of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' with some special guests from previous seasons, including season 12 runner-up Mario. In addition, season 13 is set to commemorate beloved franchises including Shrek, Ghostbusters, the 100th anniversary of The Grand Ole Opry and the iconic Rat Pack. Fans will also see exciting themed nights like Voices of Olympus: Unmasking the Gods, Carnival, Boy Bands, Decades and Soundtrack of My Life. Season 13 has also been dubbed 'Lucky 13' and features a new character, Lucky Duck, who is described as 'delightfully mischievous.' The Lucky Duck is set to pop in at various times throughout the season to drop playful clues before being unmasked in the finale. The character is also teased to have a special connection to a cast member on the show. Rita, who is returning to the judge's seat for the third time, previously teased that the celebrities featured on season 13 were 'really impressive.' 'I mean it's definitely, 'How did you get this person-type of insane,' especially me kind of being a fan of — there's a specific person,' she explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Monday, February 10. 'I can't obviously say it right now, but it's crazy how this happened. And I mean, I know everything about this person as a fan of this person. So yeah, you'll see that.' Season 12 saw the Buffalos a.k.a. R&B icons Boyz II Men crowned the winners, becoming the first group to win the Golden Mask trophy. Boyz II Men — consisting of group members Wanyá Morris, Nathan Morris and Shawn Stockman — reluctantly joined the show after being asked various times. '[We thought], 'We probably won't win 'cause they'll know who we are. We're gonna be either guessed off, or if we mask our voices, we know they won't like who we are and we'll get kicked off,'' Wanyá, 51, told Us Weekly ahead of the December 2024 finale. However, it ended up being a great experience as it helped the group grow as artists. 'It allowed us to be ourselves, believe it or not,' Shawn, 52, added. 'The masks allowed us to reveal things about who we are as singers, who we are as people, music lovers, 'cause a lot of people wouldn't connect Boyz II Men to Toto or other songs that we did on the show, so it was nice for people to get a glimpse of our playlist, songs and music that we love from artists that we enjoyed ever since we were kids in some cases. So it was nice and it became deeper than just winning the whole thing.' The Masked Singer premieres Wednesday, February 12, on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.
