Refurbished Trump Turnberry to reopen one month late after vandalism

The Ailsa course at Trump Turnberry had been due to open again earlier this month but that was postponed following the vandalism in March. US President Donald Trump 's Turnberry golf course is set to reopen this weekend, one month later than planned following a vandalism attack. A refurbished Ailsa course will reopen for members, local residents and pre-booked rounds from Sunday, June 1 before new bookings can be made online from Tuesday, July 1. ‌ Renovations were underway on Turnberry 's Ailsa course when parts of the course were ripped up and red paint was sprayed on the clubhouse in March. ‌ The course's seventh and eighth holes formed the main part of the refurbishment with the seventh green relocated 50 yards inland and the tee boxes on the eighth hole have been realigned. A number of enhancements have also been made to the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th holes. Turnberry has been closed since October 2024 when architect Martin Ebert began leading a £1 million revamp of the course - nine years after he first got involved at Turnberry. ‌ Originally the course was due to reopen in May 2025 but this was postponed following the vandalism. Martin said: 'On the new seventh hole, we wanted to make the most of Turnberry's stunning location by moving the green right to the coastal edge. There aren't many links courses where you have greens right on the cliff edge - so that is very special in its own right. ‌ 'For hole eight, it made a lot of sense to move the tees over to the right and produce a much better hole. The tee shot will be far improved with the new alignment, making the hole visually stunning from your first shot to your last.' Nic Oldham, general manager at Trump Turnberry, added: 'We, together with the owner, are always looking for ways to elevate the entire offering at Trump Turnberry. This includes the Ailsa and there is nobody better than Martin Ebert when it comes to taking this course to a new level. 'We look forward to welcoming guests back to experience the best ever iteration of this historic course, including the seventh hole – which now boasts one of the most picturesque and thrilling greens in the UK – and a much-improved new alignment for the eighth.' ‌ The Golf Academy at Trump Turnberry opened this month after undergoing its own renovations which include a state-of-the-art Trackman 11-bay range and cutting edge Trackman Simulator alongside a new Academy Café. Seven people have been arrested and charged in connection with the vandalism which took place at Trump Turnberry in the early hours of Saturday, March 8.

Rising stars set to showcase their skills at JAGA International Amateur Open in Al Ain

The Emirates Golf Federation calendar heats up this week with the JAGA International Amateur Open, set to take place from 23–25 May at the scenic Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club. Organized under the banner of the Junior Asian Golf Academy (JAGA), the event is part of a broader vision to nurture the next generation of elite golfers in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region. Branded as "The Future of Junior Golf," the JAGA International Series – Order of Merit is more than just a tournament—it's a pathway for rising stars to develop their skills and gain global exposure. Though this particular event is not part of the Emirates Golf Federation's Order of Merit, it is sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and will feature top amateur golfers—both men and women.- from the UAE and beyond. With valuable ranking points at stake, a competitive and talented field is expected to take to the Al Ain greens. The tournament will be played over three shotgun rounds, with starts scheduled for 8:00 AM on May 23, 2:00 PM on May 24, and 7:30 AM on May 25. The Al Ain course will offer a stern yet rewarding test, with its strategic layout, desert surroundings, and pristine playing conditions. The JAGA program, which began in September 2024 and concludes in June 2025, blends elite golf training with hybrid academic learning. This flexible structure supports student-athletes who travel frequently for tournaments while offering a wide choice of curricula. Graduates are well-positioned to pursue their ambitions across the NCAA, Europe, Canada and Australia or other internationally ranked education systems. With just three days before the first tee-off, the anticipation is building for a showcase of emerging talent and a weekend of high-calibre amateur golf.

New golf simulator and shop to open on Aberdeen's Union Street

A new golfing simulator and shop is set to open on Aberdeen's Union Street. Signage has appeared on the door and windows of 377 Union Street last week, which advertises The Granite City's 'all-in-one' golf destination. The venue will bring new life to the shop unit that has been vacant for more than 10 years. The venture is being launched by Golf Academy Aberdeen, however an opening date is still to be confirmed. Posters placed on the outside advertise a number of services set to be available at the Union Street centre. Golf Academy Aberdeen will offer golfing lessons, as well as a putting area with sand bunkers. A golf pro shop will also be included, with repair and club fitting services promised. A post was also published on the brand's Facebook page – which confirms the upcoming opening. A Golf Academy Aberdeen spokesperson said: 'This is your all-in-one golf destination. 'Whether you're just starting your golf journey or fine-tuning your game, we provide the tools, technology, and expertise to help you reach your full potential. 'Our facilities combine cutting-edge Trackman simulator technology, professional coaching, retail, and repair services to deliver a complete golfing experience.' The Golf Academy will open between the former Toni & Guy unit and Skills Development Scotland. The site had been advertised by FG Burnett after being vacated by former occupants Careers Scotland in 2011. It was listed at a sale price of £250,000 with rental options available on request. Golf Academy Aberdeen was contacted for comment. The news comes after a surprising mess of pipes was discovered to be making delays to Union Street's renovation 'unavoidable.'
