PopStroke Invitational in West Palm will feature athletes, celebs, media influencers

Palm Beach County is truly living up to its moniker as the Golf Capital of the World in February. The new indoor TGL golf league will feature Rory McIlroy's Boston team playing Monday and Tiger Woods' Jupiter team playing Tuesday. Two days later, PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic returns for its annual four-day extravaganza at the Champion Course at PGA National. Both venues are in Palm Beach Gardens. But before the indoor golf and a PGA Tour events take place next week, a national miniature golf tournament with local athletes, celebrities, media influencers and golfers of all skill levels will be rolled out Thursday evening at the West Palm Beach PopStroke, 2429 Perimeter Road. The PopStroke Invitational will feature a one-night competitive putting championship with a purse of $150,000 that will feature both team and individual categories. Among those who are scheduled to participate: Nick Dunlap: PGA Tour Rookie of the Year (2024) and one of golf's brightest rising stars. Grant Horvat: Golf influencer and content creator with more than 2 million followers. 'Gabby Golf Girl" (Gabriella DeGasperis): Local teenage golf influencer inspiring the next generation of female golfers with more than 1 million followers. Jeff McNeil: New York Mets second baseman and two-time MLB All-Star who is starting up spring training in Port St. Lucie. The format will feature 72 twosomes going head-to-head for a chance to earn both individual and team titles. The shotgun start on the Black and Blue courses begins at 6:30 p.m. and the champion is expected to be crowned around 9:30 p.m. In the team competition, the top spot earns $100,000 (a $50,000 split) with $30,000 going to the runner-up and $10,000 for third. MORE GOLF: Rory McIlroy taking Charley Hoffman's comments on TGL, non-PGA Tour events personal For the individual competition, $50,000 goes to first place, $15,000 for second and $5,000 for third. The event is not televised, but it is open to the public, which can view the competitors from the restaurant or beer garden. Entry fee is standard for visitors: $30 for adults, $24 for military, $24 for seniors and $18 for children. The new venue, adjacent to Palm Beach International Airport, opened its two 18-hole miniature golf courses in December. The venue is the largest of its kind and the seventh for the company, co-owned by Tiger Woods, Greg Bartoli and TaylorMade Golf. Spanning more than 20,000 square feet across two stories, the location also features a full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining and party areas, an ice cream parlor, multiple bars with expansive TVs and jumbotrons throughout the property, an outdoor patio gaming area and beer garden and a fully enclosed children's playground. COGNIZANT CLASSIC: Billy Horschel, Russell Henley, Sungjae Im, FSU's Luke Clanton commit to field This PopStroke location, the second in Palm Beach County (the other is in Delray Beach), also has the most extra of touches: A 21-and-older VIP lounge, featuring a swimming pool and bar. Officials would like to see the event be an annual occurrence at the West Palm Beach location, which is a signature venue. It is the third time the company has put on the miniature golf tournament. The first one came in 2022 in Sarasota and featured PGA Tour player Rickie Fowler and LPGA Tour player Paula Creamer. The inaugural tournament, which was televised on the Golf Channel, featured two competitions for a combined purse of $125,000. The team championship attracted 200 two-man teams, from as far away Sweden. Cognizant Classic director: Talks started with new owners of PGA National to extend contract The second event, which was not televised, was held in Scottsdale, Ariz.
