‘The Sandman' Showrunner Still Maintains 2 Seasons Was the Plan All Along
The Netflix series based on the comic co-created by the recently controversial Neil Gaiman returns for its two-part final season in July. Hollywood is no stranger to doing damage control when a creative person does or is accused of something so distressing it affects the projects they're associated with. Think Ezra Miller, Jonathan Majors, or Neil Gaiman—the latter being a particularly notable case because when he was first hit with sexual abuse allegations, which he has denied, he was involved with multiple TV series. That includes two much-loved titles: Good Omens on Prime Video and The Sandman on Netflix. Good Omens' solution was to have Gaiman, co-author of the original novel and showrunner/creator of the series, first step back from being involved with production on what had already been confirmed as the show's third and final season. Then, it was announced that in lieu of a full third season, the Amazon show would close out its story with a single 90-minute special. The situation is a little different with The Sandman. After a very well-received first season, the show was renewed in 2022 and a Netflix press release shared at the time promised 'the Sandman world will continue to expand' with 'with more episodes and stories to be adapted from multiple Sandman graphic novels.' The announcement didn't specify how many seasons that might include. However, in late January 2025, Netflix confirmed season two would be The Sandman's final outing. In a Variety story released at that time, showrunner Allan Heinberg shared a statement that read in part: 'The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season.' In April, fans learned that The Sandman's two-part final season would arrive in July, wrapping up the show for good. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Heinberg re-emphasized his earlier claim that two seasons of Sandman was something the team had been planning around for some time: 'It was a decision we made three years ago.' He framed Netflix's announcement, made at the height of Gaiman-adjacent negative press, that The Sandman would return for a second and final season as 'unfortunate timing, for sure.' He told the magazine the Gaiman stories started to hit just as The Sandman was close to finishing production and moving into postproduction. 'I can't say that it affected our process, which is scheduled years in advance,' Heinberg said. 'It's been in the periphery of my experience and the background of my experience, but it hasn't been part of the world of the making of the show, if that makes sense. Every production is its own little island.' The Sandman season two drops its first block of episodes July 3, with the final block arriving July 24.

BBC quietly adds Australian drama that left fans 'crying their eyes out'
UK viewers can now watch a 'masterpiece' drama based on a book written by the same author of Big Little Lies. Based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, the author of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, The Last Anniversary is a comedy-drama 'wrapped in a gripping mystery about family, motherhood and the women who define the generations that come after them'. The six-part series stars Teresa Palmer (The Fall Guy), Miranda Richardson (Good Omens) and Danielle Macdonald (The Tourist). Set on the fictional Scribbly Gum Island, it's been teased the setting is a 'place of many secrets'. After a young couple disappeared there decades earlier, true crime tourists flock to the island, however for three generations of women that call Scribbly Gum home, hold far more. When Sophie Honeywell (Teresa) inherits a house on the island, left to her by her ex-boyfriend's great-aunt Connie, it's the fresh start she's craving, despite the unwelcome reception she receives on arrival. Single and approaching 40, Sophie is intrigued by something else Connie left her – a promise that she might finally find the man of her dreams… To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video When the series was first released in Australia and the United States in March, one fan said it 'left them in tears'. In its review, The Guardian wrote: 'The tone of this gracefully crafted adaptation of Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel is tender and mysterious, imbued with a soft literary quality.' 'The mystery is mostly backdrop to a patient, lovely drama that delves into the complexities of family, motherhood, and relationships,' Common Sense Media shared. 'Sure, it's heavy on the symbolism and the drama isn't exactly nuanced or subtle, but fans of Moriarty's brand of storytelling should definitely find themselves well engrossed by the time the first hour is up,' The Post NZ added. More Trending This week the show was finally added to BBC iPlayer, with all episodes now available to watch. The BBC's head of programme acquisition Sue Deeks said the series was 'an entertaining drama full of vivid characters, comedy and romance, with a compelling mystery at its heart'. The Last Anniversary was co-produced by Nicole Kidman and also stars Helen Thomson (Colin from Accounts), Susan Prior (Animal Kingdom), Claude Scott-Mitchell (The Dry), Charlie Garber (Barons), Uli Latukefu (Young Rock) and Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (Force of Nature: The Dry 2). David Tennant Had His Eye On Fantastic Four: First Steps, But How Does He Feel About Pedro Pascal Playing Reed Richards?
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. David Tennant has played iconic characters in some massive franchises. He's famous for his stint as the titular character on British sci-fi series Doctor Who and for portraying the villainous Kilgrave on Marvel's Jessica Jones. As it turns out, though, Tennant was also angling for a key role in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The fan-favorite star was hoping to portray Reed Richards a.k.a. Mister Fantastic, and he's now sharing thoughts on Pedro Pascal being cast as the super-powered scientist. The Good Omens star recently took to the main stage at MCM Comic Con in London to answer fan questions about his career. One attendee asked if there was a superhero or supervillain that he wishes he'd have the opportunity to play. That's when Tennant revealed his FF aspirations and shared thoughts on Pascal: I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and, unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction. Although, you know, if it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly. David Tennant would have certainly been an interesting choice for the role, and I could imagine him having brought a little bit of edge to Reed. It's also worth noting that Tennant and Pedro Pascal are around the same age, so it wouldn't be as left field of a casting, in my humble opinion. Personally, I love Pascal, but I'm now curious about what Tennant's Reed would be like. At the end of the day, though, Pascal was apparently the right fit for what Marvel Studios was looking for, and Tennant was nothing but gracious about that, which is lovely. The Mandalorian star seems to have a great reputation in Hollywood, with many actors showering him with praise and testifying to his character. Denzel Washington shared glowing thoughts about Pascal after working with him on Gladiator II. Florence Pugh even gushed over Pascal when he passed her at the Thunderbolts* premiere. A number of fans and stars seem to agree that Pascal is getting the attention and flowers he deserves, and it's great to see his star continue to rise. Grab the ad-supported tier for $9.99 a month, or go without ads for $15.99 per month. Customers can also save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 for a whole Deal Despite not landing the FF gig, David Tennant remains booked and busy. He's set to return as Crowley for the Good Omens finale, which will just be a single 90-minute episode to wrap up the first two seasons. He is also set to star in the 2025 movie release The Thursday Murder Club alongside Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley. Tennant will also return as Tony Baddingham in Rivals Season 2, a show which gained a cult following after being released on Hulu this year. Reed Richards may have alluded David Tennant, but I love to see that he's still booking roles. And who knows, maybe the actor will one day land another role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For now, check out Tennant's A+ performance as Kilgrave by streaming Jessica Jones with a Disney+ subscription. As for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the upcoming Marvel movie opens in theaters on July 25th.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A mom-to-be has been dragged online for her questionable baby name choice. Posted by Reddit user u/POPPACRAK on r/tragedeigh—the subreddit dedicated to unique and misspelled names—the sibling shared their disbelief and concern over her sister's unconventional baby-naming plans. Newsweek reached out to u/POPPACRAK via Reddit for comment. A stock image of two sisters screaming at each other, sitting on a couch. A stock image of two sisters screaming at each other, sitting on a couch. Prostock-Studio The 30-year-old is reportedly a "movie buff" and fan of shows like Naruto, Game of Thrones and the YA sci-fi series I Am Number Four, and has landed on a unique name for her unborn child: Hinata Daenerys Six. In the attached screenshot of a text conversation, the expecting mother explained the mashup name and even mentions considering "Aziraphale"—a character from Good Omens—as an additional middle name. The original poster (OP), 15 years younger than her sister, has turned to the internet for help: "I genuinely wish I was joking. This kid will be bullied." She laments that her sister dismisses her concerns, writing her off as "just being a judgmental teenager." "I am frankly APPALLED by my sister and her choice of name for her future daughter," the OP wrote. "My parents are currently trying to talk her out of it." At the time of writing, the post has received 10,000 upvotes and over 1,800 comments. Reddit users have slammed the mom-to-be for her "asinine" choice. "Your sister is clearly not mature enough to have a child. He KNOWS the kid will be bullied, she's just putting her own selfish larping b******* above that because she has no respect or consideration for the child," one user wrote. "This is the problem with people viewing a baby as an extension of their personality and not a living human being. I don't know if it's 'main character syndrome' or delusions of grandeur or what, but people naming their babies after weird sci fi or fantasy book characters is just cringey as hell to me," another wrote. One user suggested her sister to try out using the name for a week or two in real-life situations. For example, if she goes into a coffee shop, use that name for the order. If she meets a stranger, tell them Hinata Daenerys Six is her name. "Have her try to make a dinner reservation as good old HD6. Make her live with the name until she realizes how impractical it is, and how horribly people will treat her kid," they wrote. The OP provided more context in the comments and explained that she confronted her sister armed with the Reddit thread. She reportedly called her manipulative, selfish and egotistical. Her husband is also aware of the name and "doing nothing" about it. As it stands, the OP's parents are trying to talk her out of the name, but whether they'll succeed is yet to be seen.
