Man hospitalized after Cary home explodes; investigation underway
CARY, Ill. (WGN) – A man was injured after a home in Cary reportedly exploded Sunday afternoon. The Cary Fire Protection District said just after 1:30 p.m., crews were sent to the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail in unincorporated Cary for a reported house fire and possible explosion. When crews arrived, they found a single-family home with visible signs that it had exploded, as doors and windows had been blown of front and rear of the home. Smoke was also coming from multiple areas of the home, according to investigators. Fire erupts at Northwest Side school overnight Officials said a man, the only person inside the home at the time, was found on the ground outside the home and had significant burn injuries sustained as a result of the explosion. Due to the severity of the man's injuries, officials said a medical helicopter was requested to the scene, but no helicopters in the area were available, so an ambulance took the man to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment. Firefighters got the fire under control just before 2:15 p.m., but the home and its contents are considered a total loss. No adjacent homes were damaged. UNINCORPORATED CARY, Ill. - One person was critically injured in a home explosion in unincorporated Cary Sunday afternoon. What we know Emergency crews were called around 1:32 p.m. to the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail, where they found a small single-family home showing signs of an explosion. Doors and windows had been blown off the front and back of the house, and smoke was coming from several areas, according to a statement from the Cary Fire Protection District. A man, identified as the only person inside the home, was found on the ground outside with significant burn injuries. A medical helicopter was requested, but none were available in the region. He was transported in critical condition by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. No additional victims were found inside. The fire was under control shortly after 2 p.m., but crews remained on scene for extensive work due to heavy fire damage. The home and everything inside were considered a total loss. Nearby houses were not damaged. Video provided to FOX 32 captured a loud bang and debris flying into the street shortly after the explosion. Another video showed a Nicor truck and multiple emergency vehicles at the scene. The public was asked to stay away while crews responded. "We're asking the public to avoid the area so our crews can operate safely and without obstruction," the post said. What we don't know The cause of the explosion and fire is still under investigation. Officials say natural gas may have been involved, and the Cary Fire Protection District is working alongside the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office and Nicor to determine what happened. Man, 2 juveniles suffer minor injuries in UTV rollover crash in McHenry County
A man and two juveniles were hurt after crashing their Utility Task Vehicle Saturday afternoon in Cary, Illinois. Fire crews responded to the crash in the 7100 block of South Rawson Bridge Road and found the overturned UTV on the rear of the property with the man pinned underneath. Firefighters quickly extricated the man and began assessing him, along with the two juveniles who had also been onboard when the vehicle rolled over, fire officials said. All three were taken by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with minor injuries. "As the weather continues to warm, we remind residents to use extra caution when operating off-road vehicles and watercraft. These activities can quickly turn dangerous, even in familiar surroundings," Chief Brad Delatorre said. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
