'I visited enchanting waterfall in North Wales – and think it looks like Bali'

The summer holidays are here, and many of us will be choosing to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to relax on holiday surrounded by nature with some stunning views. While some lucky travellers may head further afield to catch a glimpse of paradise, shedding thousands of pounds on a flight to Bali, one secret spot much closer to home can leave you feeling like you're in the tropics. While North Wales may not have coconut trees and a warm sea, it is perhaps more known for its mountains, rugged coastlines, and swooping valleys. However, hidden on the edge of Snowdonia and just a short drive away from Bangor is the beautiful Ceunant Mawr Falls. Recently discovered by travel TikTokers, they couldn't believe more people hadn't heard of the tropical falls. In the video that gathered thousands of views, they said: "Did you know about this epic waterfall in Wales that looks like it's straight out of Bali? I honestly can't believe I've never heard of this before. "This is Ceunant Mawr Falls and is probably one of the best short walk waterfalls I've ever been to, and it's not because it looks like something straight out of the Jungle Book. "It literally takes minutes to get to from the car park and hardly anybody knows about it. Catch this on a warm day, and I promise you'll just forget what country you're actually in." The falls are a breathtaking sight and are so easily accessed by being just a few hundred meters away from Llanberis town centre. Hundreds of tourists spot them from further away from the viaduct on the Snowdon Railway, but there's nothing like being up and close with the crashing water. Online, many happy visitors have posted about their experience. One person leaving a five-star Google Review wrote: "Absolutely enchanting walk along the river to this triple waterfall. Only 10 minutes from Snowdonia Mountain railway and a good stop off for a dip if you've just got back from the Snowdon hike." Snowdonia Guide suggests a simple one and a half mile route around the falls to get the best views and stretch your legs. They suggest: "Commencing at the forecourt of the Snowdon Mountain Railway Station (parking is available opposite the station) in the centre of Llanberis, turn right, then take the first right turn." After that, they tell walkers to walk to the end of the road and take the public footpath to the left, which will be marked Ceunant Mawr Waterfall. Next, follow the footpath past the viaduct and uphill, where there is an impressive observation point. They add: "The impressive waterfall can be viewed from an observation point which is reached by crossing the mountain railway track through a turnstile-style gate positioned near the top of the hill."

I visited one of the 'best Wetherspoons' in the UK and was blown away

I visited one of the 'best Wetherspoons' in the UK and was blown away The venue felt like stepping into a beach house rather than the back of a busy street The Prense Well Wetherspoons pub (Image: christopher megrath ) A cosy little coastal pub has fought off fierce competition from more than 800 rivals to be named one of the best in the country. To see what all the fuss was about, and to check for myself whether I could trust the online reviews telling me so, I decided to visit. A list of the top 10 Wetherspoons was compiled by SuomiCasino by analysing Google Review data for more than 800 Wetherspoon locations in the UK. Among the best in the UK is one Wirral pub which has been open since 2022 - The Prense Well. ‌ The pub scored highly with customers and its overall review rating was so positive that is was ranked among the best in the UK, according to new research. The praise was enough for me to take to my heels and pull up a seat. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here . ‌ Seconds after stepping through the front doors, I was smacked in the face with the aroma of fish and chips. Not the greasy corner chippy kind, but a fresh, tasty smell reminiscent of a seaside van. I felt transported to the coast rather than a chain pub. From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by how immaculately kept this pub is. One of the cleanest I've visited. The upholstery on the seats was pristine without fraying, stains or sagging. The carpet looked either brand new or well maintained - I couldn't tell which. There were a few dozen people already enjoying the venue by my midday arrival so I scurried away and found a table in the corner to watch from. I order a pint via the Wetherspoons app and admired my surroundings. Article continues below Across the street and visible through the large windows were tall, lush hedges creating a vivid green backdrop. The pub's garden is enclosed by a metal fence, providing a small outdoor drinking place for visitors, with bright red flowers decorating the perimeter in hanging plant pots. Christopher Megrath at The Prense Well (Image: christopher megrath ) The entire venue is bathed in natural light, which pours in through the windows and skylights. Combined with the light green walls, beach-wood panelling, and bright orb lighting, it creates an airy, countryside feel. There's something tranquil about it, like a pub you'd find nestled in a tiny village rather than the centre of town. ‌ It's easily one of the most picturesque Wetherspoons I've seen, especially when compared to some I'm familiar with. The staff delivered my drink with a "Hello, how are you?" and "Cheers, mate," instead of the silent toss and spill I've sometimes encountered. Curiosity got the better of me so I moved from the corner and went for a wander to see what I'd find. What I thought was just a standard layout opened up into two expansive seating areas, one nicknamed The Garden, thanks to its large, outdoor drinking area and covered terrace. Inside, there was a chandelier covered in fauna that stole my attention and where I pulled up a seat. Typically, when I picture a Wetherspoons, I imagine worn carpets, sticky tables. The Prense Well was genuinely very pretty. ‌ There was a calmness to it. Not dead quiet, just gently alive with conversation and atmosphere. I did get a few curious glances but I'm not surprised considering I was dressed in all black, tattooed, and slightly out of place among the sea of middle-aged customers in cardigans, jumpers and quarter-zip jackets. Regardless, it didn't stop staff smiling at me if we ever locked eyes. I didn't spend too long in the pub, just enough to catch the vibe. I really enjoyed it. The Prense Well feels like a dreamy beach venue the locals are determined to keep in pristine condition. I'd love to call back on a Saturday night to see the difference in atmosphere but from what I experienced today, it was a tranquil treat I was sad to leave so soon. The fish and chips still dances around my mind and I have to remind myself it's just a Wetherspoons. Article continues below

Edenbridge the stunning Kent town just an hour from London

Edenbridge is described as a traditional Kentish location that is set in the surrounding Eden Valley. From London, you can reach Edenbridge in as little as 38 minutes, catching the train from London Bridge and heading to Edenbridge Town station. You can also drive to the town, taking around one hour and 47 minutes with tolls along the route. Why you should visit the Kent town of Edenbridge Whether you just fancy a break from London and want an easy weekend, or fancy a weekend of long walks, Edenbridge is the perfect place. If you're a keen walker, Edenbridge offers plenty of great walking trails, including a route that takes you through the town. The town trail follows a straight line route that the Romans would follow on their route to London from Lewes. The century church records show that Edenbridge first appeared on records in the 12th century, according to Visit Edenbridge. Throughout its history, the market town has seen the likes of miners and smugglers and more recently, a rise in commuters, with it being just 25 miles from London. Despite being close to London, Edenbridge feels miles away, surrounded by countryside and high streets showing off its rich history. According to Visit Sevenoaks, the high street is filled with " timber-framed medieval buildings" that make it the "picture-perfect backdrop". The high street has shops, including antiques, gifts, plants and more, along with its market. Recommended Reading Edenbridge Market was first established in 1227 when it once sold cattle, but now it is a more general market held on Thursdays. There are also plenty of places to eat in the town, including The Old Eden, the local pub which has a Google Review rating of 4.3/5 and saw one guest share: "What a find, called in for dinner and had one of the best pies I've ever had, full of steak and kidney and the pastry was delicious." For places to stay in Edenbridge, the Ye Olde Crown is a well-rated hotel, and Hurst Farm is a popular bed and breakfast.
