Gordon Food Service Stores initially sold the recalled tomatoes in numerous states, including New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Mississippi. The affected products were packaged in clamshell containers with the UPC #7 96553 20062 1 and a master case label with Lot # RM250424 15250B or Lot # RM250427 15250B The update to a Class I, the most severe type of FDA recall, affects packages sold in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina under the name H&C Farms Label. These tomatoes came in various sizes, from 3-packs to 25-pound bags, and were sold between April 23 and April 28. Salmonella is a potentially deadly infection that can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, and in rare cases, endocarditis, arthritis, and arterial infections. According to the CDC, roughly 420 people die from acute salmonellosis each year in the United States. The organization urges anyone with symptoms resembling Salmonella to consult their healthcare provider. If you discover you have any of the affected tomatoes still in your possession, you should discard the product and avoid consuming it, per the recall. This week, Ray & Mascari Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana, is recalling its 4-count Vine Ripe Tomatoes due to a potential contamination with Salmonella. The tomatoes were packaged in 20-ounce clamshell containers and sold by Gordon Food Service Stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin. 😋😋🍳🍔For those unaware, Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and other switch weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In super rare circumstances, Salmonella infection can even result in arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. According to the FDA announcement, Ray & Mascari Inc. was informed of the tomato recall by Hanshaw & Capling Farms of Immokalee, Florida, who received and repackaged the 4-Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes and then initiated the recall due to the potential presence of Salmonella in their facility. The recalled product features UPC #7 96553 20062 1, and has a master case label with Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B. While no illnesses have been reported to date in relation to the recall, consumers are urged not to consume the product and rather discard it altogether. Indiana-based Ray & Mascari Inc. recalled 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes packaged in clam shell containers that were sold through Gordon Food Service Stores across 11 states, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, Williams Farms Repack LLC recalled tomatoes distributed to three states on May 2. Ray & Mascari Inc. was notified by Hanshaw & Capling Farms of Florida that they were recalling the lot of tomatoes it sent to be repackaged into the 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes product for the potential presence of salmonella in its facilities. The Williams Farms Repack tomatoes were also recalled due to concerns about possible salmonella contamination. The FDA is urging anyone who bought the recalled tomatoes not to consume the products and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, or they can just discard the affected item. What are the symptoms of salmonella infection? Salmonella is an organism that can "cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the FDA. Healthy people infected with salmonella usually experience several symptoms, such as fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the federal agency said.
