Hyderabad gears up for Swadeshi, eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi with 1.4 lakh pandals
Hyderabad: The city is gearing up for a grand Ganesh Chaturthi, with over 1.4 lakh pandals set to come up this year. The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, now in its 46th year, has announced 'swadeshi' as the central theme of the celebrations. "Nearly Rs 1 lakh crore is spent annually on Ganesh Utsavs across the country. All the puja-related products should come from Goshalas and local manufacturers instead of imports," said R Shashidhar, general secretary of the Samithi and Vishwa Hindu Parishad national spokesperson. "Festivals like this must promote swadeshi and the spirit of Make in India." Along with swadeshi, the Samithi has added a patriotic dimension by dedicating this year's festivities to the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Telangana to formulate policy for cows protection in state, special panel formed

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to construct four modern cow shelters to begin with, including one on 100 acres at Vemulawada, during a review meeting on cow protection held at his residence on Tuesday. The CM also instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive policy for cow protection in the state. "The new policy should focus mainly on cow protection in view of the importance of cows in our culture and the sentiments of the devotees," he said, expressing anguish over reports of the death of 39 bull calves donated by devotees to cow shelters. The CM appointed a three-member committee comprising special chief secretary (animal husbandry department) Sabyasachi Ghosh, principal secretary (endowments) Shailaja Ramaiyar and secretary (agriculture) Raghunandan Rao. The committee will conduct a study on establishment of cow shelters (Goshalas) and will also visit other states to understand cow protection policies. Apart from the cow shelter in the temple town of Vemulawada, where devotees donate cows and bull calves as part of 'Kode Mokku', other shelters will come up at Yadagirigutta, Yenkepally near Hyderabad and Telangana Veterinary University. "Special attention should be paid to protection of calves donated with devotion by the devotees," he instructed officials. "The state govt is ready to spend liberally for cow protection." During the meeting, officials submitted a paper related to management of cow shelters to the CM. Animal husbandry minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials attended the meeting.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday appointed a three-member committee to formulate a comprehensive policy for cow protection in the state. The three-member committee comprises Special Chief Secretary to Animal Husbandry Department Sabyasachi Ghosh, Principal Secretary to Endowments Department Shailaja Ramaiyar and Secretary of the state Agriculture Department Raghunandan Rao. The official committee will conduct an in-depth study on the establishment of cow shelters (Goshalas) and also visit other states to study the cow protection policies. The Chief Minister has said that the new policies should focus mainly on cow protection in view of the importance of cows in the Indian culture and the sentiments of the devotees. Chief Minister Reddy has ordered the officials to construct cow shelters with state-of-the-art facilities. These cow shelters will be established in sizeable areas at four places: in the famous temple Vemulawada where the devotees donate calves as part of ' Kode Mokku' ritual, Yadagirigutta, Yenkepally near Hyderabad city and at Animal Husbandry University in the first phase. The Chief Minister suggested that special attention should be paid to the protection of calves donated with utmost devotion by the devotees. He made it clear that the state government is ready to spend liberally for cow protection. During the meeting, the officials submitted an approach paper related to the management of cow shelters to the Chief Minister.
