Sharjah social services host partnership foresight meeting
Meeting objectives and themes The meeting focused on improving institutional performance and exploring ways to enhance partnership experiences by providing an interactive platform for exchanging ideas, reviewing achievements and challenges, and looking towards future cooperation. Four main themes were discussed: identifying strengths that promote effective collaboration; addressing challenges and current practices to improve cooperation quality; exploring future opportunities to expand partnerships aligned with community needs; and assessing external threats affecting partnership sustainability. Introduction to Sharjah Social Services The first day began with an extensive overview of the department's services, intervention areas, and strategic vision to improve life quality, especially for vulnerable groups. The presentation highlighted its key roles in care, protection, social security, and community services. Partnership management policy guide Dr Sherif Abu Shady, the department's advisor, presented the detailed "Partnership Management Policy Guide" that frames the department's relationships with partners. The policy emphasises equal partnerships and activating each party's role to achieve shared goals, aiming to build effective and sustainable partnerships that enhance social service efficiency and community impact. Services overview and legislative role The presentation detailed the department's services, including care in residential institutions, social security programmes, social and economic empowerment initiatives, and community projects targeting diverse groups. It also covered the department's regulatory and legislative responsibilities in social work. Partnership systems and mechanisms Alia Al-Souqi, Head of Public Relations, explained the department's systems for building qualitative, sustainable partnerships with public and private entities, founded on mutual understanding and institutional integration to improve social service quality and meet community needs. She stressed that partnership success lies not only in agreements but in practical activation through joint initiatives creating tangible impact. Training and best practices Al-Souqi delivered interactive training sessions highlighting best practices in effective partnership building, sharing live examples of joint initiatives that enabled participants to learn, exchange ideas, and discuss ways to enhance cooperation and address challenges. Commitment to integrated work In her speech, Khawla Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Government Communication Office, affirmed the department's commitment to participatory work with partners, describing the meeting as a valuable opportunity to discuss current realities and future prospects that serve the community and sustainable social development. She emphasised fostering a culture of transparent, integrated institutional cooperation, with the meeting serving as a strategic platform for performance evaluation, experience sharing, and inspiring joint initiatives to advance community service. Attendance and expectations The meeting hosted around 70 participants from 31 different entities. The Sharjah Social Services Department hopes the meeting will help shape more integrated future directions that strengthen partnerships as a key element in service development and achieving the desired community impact.

These partnerships are grounded in fruitful collaboration that boosts institutional performance and ensures long-term mutual benefits and sustainability. Clear and Documented Agreements The Chairman affirmed that effective partnership policies require clearly defined relationships through detailed agreements that specify roles and responsibilities. These agreements are regularly reviewed to ensure ongoing compliance with regulations.

GPSSA attends seminar on innovative social security reforms in Oman
16 Apr 2025 14:01 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)A delegation from the UAE's General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) participated in a technical seminar titled Innovative Social Security Reforms, which explored opportunities and emerging challenges in social security reforms, including the innovative use of technology and structural institutional seminar, held in Oman on April 14 and 15, was co-organised by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the International Labor Organisation (ILO), in cooperation with the ISSA Liaison Office for Arab Countries, and hosted by the Social Protection Fund (SPF) of delegation attending the seminar included Hind Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Pensions Sector; Dr. Maysa Rashed Ghadeer, Head of the Government Communication Office; Muna Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Media Section Manager and Wafa Mohamed, Operations Officer (Employer) at the Pension Operations the seminar, winners from the Scientific Research Award for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Institutions received an award, launched for the first time in 2024-2025 across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as a token of support for the future of social protection, while promoting a culture of scientific research in pension and social security. The award received 61 research proposals in its first edition, out of which 29 were part of a comprehensive study, 17 research findings covered topics that focus on core challenges facing the insurance sector, most notably sustainable pension funds, actuarial science, the role of technology and digital transformation, institutional investment, legislation and governance mechanisms, and the experience of extending insurance coverage as a pioneering model in the Al Suwaidi, Pensions Sector Executive Director at the GPSSA was honoured as member of the Scientific Research Award's main committee, alongside Dr. Maysa Rashed Ghadeer, Head of GPSSA's Government Communication Office and the award's business manager, in recognition of their pivotal roles in providing necessary support to achieve the award's objectives and raise awareness about it. 'Being recognised by the Scientific Research Award for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Institutions represents GPSSA's contribution and support towards innovation and scientific research in the fields of pension and insurance. Through our participation in the award, it became evident that more research and studies are required in the social security sector, as they contribute to developing policies and practices that enhance the well-being of pensioners, while offering sustainable pension schemes,' Al Suwaidi said. Dr. Ghadeer said that GPSSA's participation in like-minded research seminars offer an opportunity to collaborate, brainstorm, exchange ideas and experiences, while reviewing some of the best practices in the field of social seminar focused on presenting national reform experiences under two structuring themes that are of key importance for reforms in the region, with the first focused on challenges related to social security financing, ageing societies, climate change, and changing labor markets. The second aimed at exploring reforms that extend coverage, broaden the scope of social security systems through new branches or benefits, and enhance benefit adequacy.
