Admissions open to government ITI in Karur
: The last day for the submission of filled-in applications for admissions to the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Karur will be July 13. The ITI offers courses in Sewing Technology, Desktop Publishing Operator, Mechanic Auto Body Repair, and Operator Advanced Machine Tools. Sewing Technology and Desktop Publishing Operator courses are open only to women candidates while both men and women can apply for the rest. Selected candidates will be eligible for a monthly stipend, free bus fare, textbooks, uniforms, and bicycles. Candidates can apply online or in-person at the ITI, it added. Students told to act as ambassadors to fight dengue in Udupi
Representative Image UDUPI: Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K urged students to become ambassadors for dengue prevention by actively spreading awareness within their communities. She stressed the importance of proactive steps to control dengue and other vector-borne diseases to build a healthier Udupi district. Speaking at a human chain awareness rally held recently at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Pragathinagar , as part of National Dengue Day celebrations, the Deputy Commissioner said, 'Dengue is not just a fever; it is a viral disease spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes, which breed in stagnant water. To curb the spread of dengue and destroy mosquito breeding grounds, the public must be provided with comprehensive health education,' she said. She further stressed the importance of the "Check, Clean, Cover – Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites", emphasising the need for community involvement in maintaining clean surroundings and preventing mosquito infestation. The event was jointly organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat , National Health Mission , District Health and Family Welfare Department, District Vector-Borne Disease Control Office, and the Government ITI, Pragathinagar.

CM inaugurates govt model school in Trichy
Trichy: Chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed model school in Thiruverumbur, set up exclusively to train govt school students crack national-level entrance exams such as JEE and secure admission to premier higher educational chief minister arrived at Trichy airport around 12pm and reached the school accompanied by ministers K N Nehru, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, S S Sivasankar, S Regupathy, and Siva V Meyyanathan among others. Developed on 7.9 acres within the campus of Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) near Thuvakudi Anna Valaivu, the school is equipped with science and computer laboratories, a multipurpose hall, a library, and disabled-friendly toilets. Additionally, five-storey hostel buildings for boys and girls have been built at a cost of ₹18.57 crore each, with a capacity to accommodate around 440 students each. Stalin interacted with the students and wished them success. "We are also preparing for exams like NEET, CUET, CLAT, and NIFT. Weekly online and mock tests are conducted regularly, which is really helpful," said K Kamala Priya, a student of the school. Stalin later posted on X, saying, "The model schools have grabbed Delhi's attention. The initiative has helped 977 students from these schools pursue higher education in premier Indian and international institutions. We will continue to strive to increase the numbers," he said. Following the inauguration, the chief minister chaired a review meeting with district in the evening, he held a roadshow from TVS Tollgate, which passed through Head Post Office, MGMGH, Puthur Signal, and Thillai Nagar. During the event, he received grievances directly from the public. As part of the roadshow, Stalin inaugurated a statue of legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan at Puthur in the presence of Prabhu, the thespian's son. "We have fond memories of Trichy. Our family has had a close connection with the city since my father's time," said Prabhu. Stalin then chaired a meeting with DMK members to discuss assembly election preparedness.

Tamil Nadu's model schools have caught national attention with their results, says Stalin
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated new buildings and hostels constructed at cost of ₹57.47 crore for the government model school at Thuvakudi in Tiruchi on Thursday. Model schools were established in the State to coach higher secondary students to clear competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, CUET, CLAT, and NIFT and other exams and help students secure admission to premier higher educational institutions. In the 2023-24 Budget, the State government had announced that permanent buildings will be established in the first phase for the model schools in the five districts of Tiruchi, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Tiruvannamalai. The model school building, situated on the premises of the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), has ground plus two floors with a carpet area of 54,676 sq. ft. The school has classrooms, staff rooms, a library, a multipurpose hall, laboratories, a playground, an auditorium, and sanitation complexes. Additionally, separate five-storey hostel buildings for boys and girls with an area of 73,172 sq. ft have been constructed. The hostels can accommodate around 440 boys and an equal number of girls. Mr. Stalin went around the school and hostel buildings and interacted with the students. He unveiled the statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar installed on the school premises. Later, in a post on X, Mr. Stalin said: 'Following my visit to the model schools in Delhi in 2022, I had said that such schools would be established in Tamil Nadu too. As announced, we established 38 model schools, one in each district across Tamil Nadu. Now, the permanent infrastructure for the school in Tiruchi has been inaugurated. The model school has come up in such a way that has turned heads even in Delhi.' 'Our initiative has yielded impressive results, with 977 students from these schools now pursuing higher education in premier Indian and international institutions. We will continue to strive to increase the numbers,' Mr. Stalin said and lauded School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi for making government schools a symbol of pride. Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru, Minister for Natural Resources S. Regupathy, Minister for Transport S. S. Sivasankar, Minister for Welfare of Backward Classes Siva V. Currently, the model school has been functioning temporarily near Ammapettai, Trichy, since its inception in education minister and Thiruverumbur MLA Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has overseen the construction ahead of the chief minister's visit.
