Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated new buildings and hostels constructed at cost of ₹57.47 crore for the government model school at Thuvakudi in Tiruchi on Thursday.
Model schools were established in the State to coach higher secondary students to clear competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, CUET, CLAT, and NIFT and other exams and help students secure admission to premier higher educational institutions. In the 2023-24 Budget, the State government had announced that permanent buildings will be established in the first phase for the model schools in the five districts of Tiruchi, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Tiruvannamalai.
The model school building, situated on the premises of the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), has ground plus two floors with a carpet area of 54,676 sq. ft. The school has classrooms, staff rooms, a library, a multipurpose hall, laboratories, a playground, an auditorium, and sanitation complexes. Additionally, separate five-storey hostel buildings for boys and girls with an area of 73,172 sq. ft have been constructed. The hostels can accommodate around 440 boys and an equal number of girls.
Mr. Stalin went around the school and hostel buildings and interacted with the students. He unveiled the statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar installed on the school premises.
Later, in a post on X, Mr. Stalin said: 'Following my visit to the model schools in Delhi in 2022, I had said that such schools would be established in Tamil Nadu too. As announced, we established 38 model schools, one in each district across Tamil Nadu. Now, the permanent infrastructure for the school in Tiruchi has been inaugurated. The model school has come up in such a way that has turned heads even in Delhi.'
'Our initiative has yielded impressive results, with 977 students from these schools now pursuing higher education in premier Indian and international institutions. We will continue to strive to increase the numbers,' Mr. Stalin said and lauded School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi for making government schools a symbol of pride.
Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru, Minister for Natural Resources S. Regupathy, Minister for Transport S. S. Sivasankar, Minister for Welfare of Backward Classes Siva V. Meyyanathan, Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko, Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi N. Siva, School Education Department Principal Secretary B. Chandra Mohan, and Collector M. Pradeep Kumar were present.

NEET-PG 2025 be conducted in one shift, orders SC; says two shifts create arbitrariness, ET Education

Advt Advt New Delhi, In a significant order, the Supreme Court on Friday issued directions that the post-graduate medical entrance exam scheduled on June 15 be conducted in a single shift, saying holding it in two shifts "creates arbitrariness".A bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath directed the authorities to make arrangements for holding NEET-PG 2025 exam in one shift and to ensure that complete transparency is maintained and secured centres are identified."Any two question papers can never be said to be having an identical level of difficulty or ease," said the bench, also comprising Justices Sanjay Kumar and N V said normalisation may be applied in exceptional cases but not in a routine manner year after bench passed the order on pleas challenging a notification on holding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Post Graduate (NEET-PG) 2025 examination in two top court said the total number of candidates who have applied for the examination is 2,42,678 and the test is held all over the country and not in one city."We are not ready to accept that in the entire country and considering the technological advancement in the country, the examining body could not find enough centres to hold the examination in one shift," the bench said."Holding examinations in two shifts creates arbitrariness and also does not keep all the candidates, who take the examination, at the same level," it said the examination is scheduled for June 15 and there was still more than two weeks for the examining body to identify further centres to hold it in one shift."We accordingly direct the respondents to make further arrangements for holding the examination in one shift and also ensure that complete transparency is maintained and secured centres are identified," the bench of the pleas was filed through advocate Sukriti Bhatnagar. Several lawyers, including advocate Tanvi Dubey, appeared in the counsel appearing for the respondents, including the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), said even if efforts were made to identify more centres, it might need more time which might result into delay in holding the NBEMS is entrusted with the responsibility of conducting postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved specialities leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board and Doctorate of National Board and Fellow of National respondents said consequently, the counselling might also be delayed which would not be in line with the timeline fixed by the apex court."This argument is also not accepted as there is still sufficient time for the examining body to identify sufficient number of centres for holding the examination in one shift," the bench top court observed it would be open for the respondents to apply for extension of time, if they find they were not able to identify required number of the counsel for the respondents repeatedly said the process of identifying centres might not be completed by June 15, the bench said they could seek extension of time and the court would consider that."It is for you to identify and pay for it. If you don't want to spend money, it is a different thing," the bench counsel appearing for the respondents said it was not a question of money."Now you burn little midnight oil and try to find the centres," the bench said."We have given you liberty to seek extension," the bench said, adding, "You have already made up your mind that you are not going to be able to do it without even trying. Try at least".It noted the other issued raised in the plea was regarding disclosure of question papers and answer keys on NBEMS's website after the declaration of said this issue would be considered after the examinations are held and posted the matter for hearing on July apex court noted that counsel for the respondents have opposed the plea to conduct NEET-PG examination in one shift on two said as per respondents, the number of candidates to appear in the exam was too large and it was difficult for the examining body to find secured centres to hold the test in one said the second ground was that if examinations were held in one shift, unscrupulous elements might get involved and there could be the hearing, the counsel for the petitioners said NEET-PG exam was a rank-based test and even one marks would make a huge difference in whether the candidate would get the preferred stream."You tell us why do you hold examination in two shifts?," the bench asked the counsel appearing for the counsel said these examinations were held online and there were limited safe centres having required the counsel appearing for one of the respondents said the schedule fixed by the apex court would be disturbed as holding the examination in one shift within 15 days would be difficult, the bench said, "Don't give this kind of a threat that the whole year will go and this will happen and that will happen".The lawyer appearing for another respondent said they have identified about 445 centres for multi shift examination and if it was to be conducted in one shift, they will have to identify about 900 odd centres. DMK launches ‘Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' enrolment drive with eye on 2026 assembly polls

MADURAI: Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday announced a special cadre enrolment drive titled 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu', setting a two-month target for party functionaries to enrol new members. A special resolution to this effect was adopted at the DMK's 7th General Council meeting held in Uthangudi. While moving the resolution, Stalin said each booth committee member must enrol at least 30% of the voters within their booth limits. District secretaries and other functionaries must ensure the target is achieved within two months, he emphasised. Stating that at least one person in every household benefits from a welfare scheme under the Dravidian model government which follows the principle of 'everything for everyone' Stalin urged all families in Tamil Nadu to unite under one umbrella in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly election. The aim, he said, is to take forward the DMK's efforts to protect state rights, language, and dignity. He also added that he would personally interact with party functionaries to review the progress of the enrolment drive.

No anti-incumbency, no bunch of clowns can defeat DMK, says Stalin

Madurai: Sounding the poll bugle for the 2026 assembly election, chief minister M K Stalin launched a caustic attack on his political opponents on Sunday, stating that 'no bunch of clowns can defeat DMK .' Addressing party functionaries at the party's general council meeting at Uthangudi in Madurai, Stalin said there was no anti – incumbency against the DMK govt. `"Rather, there is a wave of pro–incumbency. The support for DMK is much stronger than opposition,'' he said. Stalin said DMK was alive to uphold ideology and its endeavour to win election was to spread the ideology. "That's why no bunch of clowns could defeat us so far. They will never be able to defeat in the future too,'' he said. But there was a concerted effort to project the DMK govt in a bad light, he said. The onslaught by our enemies would increase in the coming days as elections are around the corner. There would be a surge in slanders and attempts would be made to plant falsehood through fake opinion polls. "We should be prepared to defeat those attempts and counter them with truth,'' he said. By this time next year, the headlines would be about DMK's election victory, he said. Stalin took sharp digs at AIADMK and its general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), accusing him of fully surrendering the party to the BJP . "Now he is trying to surrender Tamil Nadu too to the BJP, which is why Amit Shah keeps visiting the state. But that won't happen," Stalin said. "No matter which Shah visits TN, they cannot rule us. For Delhi, TN will always be out of control," he said. Stalin said EPS wanted the DMK alliance to split and hoped that it would happen if he 'enacts a split with BJP.' Since that didn't happen, he rejoined the BJP front, Stalin said. He however questioned the silence of EPS when Shah announced the BJP – AIADMK alliance. "The conduct of EPS when Shah announced the alliance was more like the way he behaved when Sasikala declared him as CM in 2017,'' Stalin said. Training his guns on BJP, Stalin urged cadres to inform people that if BJP captures power in TN, there would be Hindi imposition, communal and religious clashes. Regression would replace industrial growth, he said. He then took a veiled dig at TVK president Vijay, stating that 'there were some new entrants bent upon duping youth by claiming to be the alternatives.' "We should give a fitting response to them as well,'' he said. Rallying the cadres for the assembly election, Stalin urged them to increase party membership. Bring in more young people. Our movement needs the energy and passion of youth, we need young blood to take our ideology forward, he said. Stalin lavishly praised DMK allies stating that the front's victory was made possible by the allies. ``One key reason for our continued victories is our alliance. Our alliance remains strong because we respect our allies. I treat our alliance leaders with friendship and love. You must do the same,'' he told the cadres. Stalin said beginning June he would meet party functionaries constituency-wise, at Anna Arivalayam. "At that time, we will have one-on-one conversations," he added.
