The Government of Prince Edward Island announced Thursday it has acquired land for the future Kings County Memorial Hospital (KCMH) and Community Health Centre in Three Rivers.
The land is located near Montague off AA MacDonald Road, a 'centrally located and accessible site,' a news release from the province said.
'We are planning for the future of health care in Prince Edward Island, with a focus on what Islanders will need in the years ahead,' said Rob Lantz, premier of Prince Edward Island. 'Securing this land is a key step as we work toward a new Kings County Memorial Hospital. It reflects our long-term commitment to supporting strong communities across the province.'
The 84.7 acres of land was purchased through a private sale.
The site will include several health facilities such as the KCMH, which will replace the existing hospital and a new Community Health Centre. The next phase of development will determine how the land can best support health services for the region.
'This is about planning smart for the future. Having the right land in the right location gives us a strong foundation for future development,' said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Ernie Hudson. 'This kind of early, proactive investment ensures that when we're ready to move forward with design and construction, we'll be well positioned to do so.'
Specific timelines on building design and construction will be determined during future phases of the project. The government will continue consultation with community members, staff and stakeholders over the summer, the release said.
