Wildfire warning sign placed in Peak District
A wildfire warning sign is being trialled in part of the Peak at Owler Bar, near Holmesfield in Derbyshire, it will be controlled by the Moors for Future Partnership (MFP), which will change the risk level depending on the MFP said similar signs were used in warmer countries, including Shaw, communications programme manager, said: "The smallest spark from a campfire, barbecue or even a piece of litter could start a fire, so we are just looking at ways to help people adjust their own behaviours whilst visiting the Peak District." The MFP said there had been more than 30 moorland fires in the Peak District so far this year, including one in Goyt Valley that destroyed trees and grassland in an area bigger than more than 300 football Shaw described the impact of the fires as "massive", adding they would "take years to recover from".She said: "We have also done years of work on the moors which just went up in flames, so it's been a really emotional time."Seeing all the destruction is heartbreaking." Ms Shaw said the MFP, which is led by the Peak District National Park Authority, would monitor the weather on the moors and adjust the sign accordingly."The temperatures are getting warmer and wildfires are becoming more significant, so we are just looking at ways other countries react when it's really warm," she said."We believe that visitors to the Peak District love this landscape as much as we do and would be greatly saddened to accidentally cause a fire."Ms Shaw said the trial would be in place until the end of June."Depending on how many people see the sign could help us decide whether to put these signs all across the Peak District," she added.

Mini dams may have prevented Peak District wildfire spread
Restoration work on a Peak District moor could have prevented more damage being caused by a wildfire, according to an environmental group.A fire broke out in the Goyt Valley in Derbyshire on April 30 and caused damage to an area roughly the size of 325 football the Moors for the Future Partnership had built a series of mini dams as part of a programme of work that started two years partnership's conservation work officer, Jim Randle, said because there was more water on the moor it may have helped stop the fire spreading further, but added it will still take years for the landscape to fully recover. He added: "It is grief almost because you know how important this place is to people. "It is a very popular spot for lots of people."The Moors for the Future partnership is led by the Peak District National Park Authority but is funded from a variety of sources including the National Trust and the Environment upland and exposed moors there is bare peat and Moors for the Future works to encourage grass, heather and other vegetation to grow in the allow this to happen it has created water dams on the moors by blocking gullies and water fire was largely contained within the Goyt Valley and didn't spread on to the open moorland between Buxton and Randle added: "There are many, many areas where we have put in dams that were holding water that would not have otherwise been there."It has been exceptionally dry in lots of areas where we were working. "The fire may well have been worse and buried deeply into the peat in some areas (if it had not been for the dams)." There are two reservoirs at the base of the Goyt Valley owned by United Utilities, which also owns the surrounding Lawrance, a catchment officer for the company, said: "It is just an incredibly sad situation."We have seen them before, these big moorland fires, and know how devastating they are for the wildlife and the habitat up here, for the people who visit, for the people who work and manage this area."So it is always an awful experience when we get a big wildfire like this."A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire service supports the regeneration of moorland in the Peak District and work undertaken through the Moors for the Future Partnership."This vital work to restore the moors includes re-wetting which can help to reduce the risk and severity of wildfires."

Campfire sparked moorland blaze in Peak District
A fire service has issued a warning following another moorland fire in Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) urged people to "act responsibly" in the countryside after firefighters put out another blaze in the Fire Station confirmed that crews attended a deep-seated fire in peat on Thursday at Holme Moss, which was started by a campfire, according to the comes as DFRS said that firefighters had left the scene of the moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley on Tuesday, which burnt an area bigger than 300 football pitches. In a post on social media DFRS reminded people not to have campfires or barbecues in the area. DFRS said moorland fires were "labour intensive" and take "vital services" away from being able to respond to other emergencies.A spokesperson for the service said: "It's a message we keep repeating, but it doesn't seem to be getting through to some people."Glossop Fire Station said since the end of February, crews from the station had attended 24 wildfires and urged people not to start fires, as it is "very dry" and "easy" for them to spread. The last crews left the scene of the moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir at about 08:15 BST on Tuesday and handed over to landowners United Utilities, which the fire service said "are managing a few remaining hot spots".Firefighters were first called to the blaze in the Goyt Valley on 30 April with crews from Cheshire and Staffordshire also deployed to help Derbyshire-based teams, with the local service describing the operation as "a week of tough firefighting".
