Mystery deepens over disappearance of 'Datin Seri'
KUALA LUMPUR: The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a Datin Seri, who was reportedly abducted while en route to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, entered its 27th day yesterday. Although Datin Seri Pamela Ling was reported missing on April 9, news of her alleged abduction only surfaced earlier this week. City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa on Saturday confirmed that statements had been recorded from 12 individuals, including MACC officers. He said no ransom demand had been received and there were no new leads. The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping. Ling, who is based in Singapore, left for the MACC headquarters early on April 9, but she never arrived. Her last known message was to her lawyer at 1.57pm, stating that she expected to arrive at the destination at 2.08pm. Her phone signal was last tracked to the MEX Highway, close to Bandar Putra Permai, at 1.52pm. Earlier this week, her brother said he believed his sister, a mother of three, had been kidnapped. The family was informed that the e-hailing vehicle she was in was allegedly intercepted by three vehicles, and Ling was ordered to enter one of them. The brother added that Grab Malaysia had confirmed Ling's ride had been marked as completed. Meanwhile, MACC said it would leave efforts to locate Ling — who had been requested to assist in a money laundering investigation — to the police. The commission urged the public not to speculate and to give police the space to carry out their investigation. To date, three police reports have been lodged over her disappearance — two by her lawyer and another by her family.
