Sovereignty will enter the Kentucky Derby off a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Florida Derby on March 29 at Gulfstream Park. He currently ranks sixth on the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard with 110.

Sovereignty won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on March 1 at Gulfstream Park in his 3-year-old debut before the runner-up finish in the Florida Derby. … Crowned, Sovereignty's dam, was a $1.2 million yearling purchase at the Keeneland September Sale in 2014 but never raced. … Sovereignty is one of three Into Mischief colts set to run in the Kentucky Derby, joining Tappan Street and Citizen Bull.
What they're saying: 'We were thinking about one race earlier and he had a fever,' Mott said of the horse's 3-year-old debut coming March 1. 'We thought, 'We'll try to map it out so we can get at least two races in him before the Derby.' We missed the first one, but we were able to make the Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby. We got two out of the three.'
