Sir Lucian Grainge takes a jab at Drake through a declaration letter
The Chairman and CEO of the world's largest music company, Grainge, firmly asserted that he had no involvement in the release and promotion of Lamar's hit that earned him five Grammy awards. Earlier this week, Drake's attorney demanded documentation from UMG and Grainage concerning Lamar's contract with the group, as well as details regarding alleged claims of domestic violence committed by the latter rapper, according to Variety.
In the declaration, Grainge claimed that the accusations against him about devaluing Drake's brand through Kendrick Lamar's diss track are utterly nonsensical, as Universal Music Group N.V. has invested millions of dollars in the rapper, including ownership of records, publishing rights, and catalog. Furthermore, Grainge said that given his role in the firm, he is not accustomed to personal attacks; however, he claims that the whole litigation is either to waste of his time out of spite or Drake's attempt to gain media attention.

Groundless and indeed ridiculous
'Given Drake's motion, I would like to make it quite clear that I had never heard the recording 'Not Like Us,' nor ever saw the corresponding cover art or music video, until after they were released by Interscope Records,' he said in the declaration letter, before adding, 'Whilst, as part of my role, I certainly have financial oversight of and responsibility for UMG's global businesses, the proposition that I was involved in, much less responsible for, reviewing and approving the content of 'Not Like Us,' its cover art or music video, or for determining or directing the promotion of those materials, is groundless and indeed ridiculous.
