Hit-and-run sparks 1km chase, confrontation goes viral
SUNGAI PETANI: Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident that led to a 1km chase and confrontation between two drivers, which was captured in a now-viral video.
Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the incident, which involved a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Grand Livina, happened at 1.35pm after the Corolla driver hit the Grand Livina.
The Grand Livina driver then chased the Corolla for 1km.
"When the Corolla driver realised he was being followed, he turned his car around and crashed into the right side of the Grand Livina," he said.
The man then got out of his car and verbally abused the Grand Livina driver before fleeing the scene.
Hanyan said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving, and Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules for failing to control a vehicle.
The offences carry jail time and fines, with a conviction under Section 42(1) carrying a maximum penalty of a five-year jail sentence and a RM15,000 fine.
