India is gearing up for 15 new hybrid SUV launches by 2027, with top carmakers like Maruti, Mahindra, Honda, Hyundai & Kia expanding their eco-friendly offerings
Hybrid vehicles are quickly gaining traction in India as they strike the right balance between fuel efficiency and performance. Unlike electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids do not suffer from range anxiety or the need for extensive charging infrastructure.
As a result, leading car manufacturers are shifting their focus to this segment, launching new models and expanding their hybrid portfolios.
Here's a detailed look at 15 hybrid SUVs expected to arrive on Indian roads by 2027.
Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara-Based SUV Arriving in 2025
India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is set to introduce a new mid-size SUV based on the Grand Vitara, with a launch date scheduled for September 3, 2025. Unlike the Grand Vitara, which is sold through Nexa showrooms, this new model will be available via Arena dealerships.
It will share the 1.5L petrol-hybrid powertrain from the Grand Vitara. Additionally, in 2026, Maruti will debut its in-house developed strong hybrid system in the Fronx Hybrid, which will feature a 1.2L Z12E petrol engine combined with the company's series hybrid system.
Mahindra Prepares For Hybrid Entry In 2026
Mahindra & Mahindra plans to step into the hybrid segment with a strong hybrid variant of the XUV 3XO compact SUV, expected to launch in 2026. This model will feature a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine coupled with a hybrid system.
Mahindra is also eyeing hybrid technology for its upcoming models — the BE 6 and XUV.e9 — which may feature range-extender hybrid powertrains by 2026 or 2027.
Hyundai & Kia's Hybrid Expansion Plans
Hyundai Motor India is planning two hybrid SUVs:
Both models are expected by 2026.
Sister company Kia is also preparing to go hybrid. A next-gen Seltos Hybrid is expected in 2027, followed by an all-new 3-row SUV (codename: Q4i), also featuring hybrid technology.
Honda's Hybrid Line-Up Grows
Honda Cars India is expected to introduce its popular global hybrid SUV, the ZR-V, by late 2025.

A hybrid version of the Elevate SUV is planned for around Diwali 2026
A new 7-seater SUV is also in the works, likely debuting Honda's new modular platform
These models will strengthen Honda's hybrid presence in India.
