Last Updated: Demanding strict action, the parents of the victim alleged that no lifeguard was present at the spot when the accident took place. An FIR has been filed in the case against five people. An 11-year-old boy died after drowning in a swimming pool owned by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in Thane. The incident took place on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Granth Hansmukh Mutha, was rushed to the hospital following the accident; however, doctors declared him dead. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under sections 106, 3(5) of BNS against five people, including the contractor of Sahas Charitable Trust and unknown persons. The parents of the victim demanded strict action, alleging that no lifeguard was present at the spot when the accident took place. According to Granth's father, his son got into the pool at nearly 11 a.m., and was found floating 45 minutes later. 'My son had just completed Std V. Just a week ago, he told me he wanted to learn swimming, so I enrolled him for classes. On Sunday, Granth went to the sports complex with four friends, accompanied by one of their parents. He entered the pool around 11 am, but around 11:45 am, he was found floating. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," Midday quoted Granth's father as saying. 'I have demanded that CCTV footage of the pool area be checked to understand how the incident occurred. I will ensure that no such incident ever happens again," he added. In a separate incident that took place in Maharashtra's Buldhana, two second-year students of an Ayurvedic college drowned in a swimming pool at Chikhli town on April 10. The deceased, identified as Suraj Pankhede, 22, and Vivek Vayle, 22, went to the government-run swimming pool with four others. First Published: April 21, 2025, 11:36 IST
