An 11-year-old boy died after drowning in a swimming pool owned by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in Thane. The incident took place on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Granth Hansmukh Mutha, was rushed to the hospital following the accident; however, doctors declared him dead.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under sections 106, 3(5) of BNS against five people, including the contractor of Sahas Charitable Trust and unknown persons.
The parents of the victim demanded strict action, alleging that no lifeguard was present at the spot when the accident took place.
According to Granth's father, his son got into the pool at nearly 11 a.m., and was found floating 45 minutes later.
'My son had just completed Std V. Just a week ago, he told me he wanted to learn swimming, so I enrolled him for classes. On Sunday, Granth went to the sports complex with four friends, accompanied by one of their parents. He entered the pool around 11 am, but around 11:45 am, he was found floating. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," Midday quoted Granth's father as saying.
'I have demanded that CCTV footage of the pool area be checked to understand how the incident occurred. I will ensure that no such incident ever happens again," he added.
In a separate incident that took place in Maharashtra's Buldhana, two second-year students of an Ayurvedic college drowned in a swimming pool at Chikhli town on April 10.
The deceased, identified as Suraj Pankhede, 22, and Vivek Vayle, 22, went to the government-run swimming pool with four others.

'We are writing to you with a sense of profound shock, anguish and outrage over the horrific abduction and alleged gang-rape of two minor cousins within the jurisdiction of the Golanthara police station,' the memorandum said. The BJD leaders, who included the sitting MLAs and former MLAs, urged the SP to expedite the investigation into the Golanthara incident and ensure a clear and strong message is sent that such monstrous acts will not be tolerated. The BJD also demanded strengthening of intelligence gathering to neutralise criminal elements and prevent such heinous crimes from happening in the future. The memorandum said the BJD will be closely monitoring the progress of the case and will not rest until justice is delivered to the victims and their families. Among others, Berhampur Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, former MPs Rajashree Mallick and Chandra Sekhar Sahu and former MLAs Ramesh Chandra Choupatnaik, Bikram Panda and several others were part of the delegation. Meanwhile, Odisha Police on Saturday arrested four persons on the charge of raping two minor sisters in Ganjam district. The four accused were nabbed while trying to escape from the State, the Berhampur SP said, adding they were booked under different sections of BNS and POCSO Act. He said while the accused youths were in the age group of 21-22 years, the cousins were 13 and 14 years old. The incident took place at a village in Golanthara police station area on June 3 when the sisters were on their way to attend a wedding ceremony. The incident came to light on June 5 when the mother of one of the survivors reported the matter to the police, who subsequently arrested the four accused in a series of raids. The SP said that one of the accused was an acquaintance of a girl. He took the two girls to a place, where the four youths allegedly gang-raped them, and later dropped them near their village. Police said the statements of the survivors were recorded. Their medical examinations have been conducted. Both the girls were produced before the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for counselling.

JAGATSINGHPUR: Tirtol police arrested three persons after tension flared up in Ibrisingh village over alleged cow slaughter near the local Jagannath temple on Saturday. The arrested persons are Mojamal Khan, Alam Sha and Murshid Alam. The trio was arrested under sections 296 and 351 ( 2) of BNS and the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1980. Sources said a group of people from the minority community reportedly slaughtered cows near the Jagannath temple at Badamath in Ibrisingh village. The situation escalated when villagers staged road blockade demanding action on the matter. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and held discussion with the agitating villagers. IIC of Tirtol police station Pradipta Sethi said the road blockade was lifted after police arrested the accused trio. The arrests were made on basis of the complaint filed by one Bajrang Dal activist Sanjay Mallick. The accused were produced in court on Sunday.

AGRA: A gang of 10 women who allegedly stole valuables from devotees at temples in Mathura was arrested after a judge's mangalsutra was snatched at the Thakur Shri Radharaman temple in Vrindavan on June 1, police said on Sunday. The 2-tola gold mangalsutra was recovered during the arrests across temple precincts. Justice Prema Sahu, an additional district and sessions judge from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, lodged a police complaint on June 5 saying her mangalsutra had been snatched while visiting Vrindavan with her family. A case was filed under BNS section 303(2) (petty theft). Mathura police launched a campaign and arrested the women on Saturday. SSP Shlok Kumar said, "We launched a campaign to identify and apprehend women thieves and pickpockets active in the temples, leading to the arrest of 10 women. We recovered the stolen mangalsutra and several purses containing cash, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, debit cards, driving licences and other important documents, along with Rs 18,000 in cash. " During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted they were from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and operated in crowded temples in Vrindavan and Mathura, targeting phones, purses and jewellery. All legal formalities were completed and the 10 women were sent to jail. They have also been charged under BNS section 317(5) (possessing or facilitating concealment of the stolen items).
