Matthew Tkachuk Says Injury ‘Trending Well' Ahead Of 2025 NHL Playoffs
Matthew Tkachuk lifts the Stanley Cup on June 24, 2024 in Sunrise, Florida. (Photo by Bruce ...) When last seen publicly, Matthew Tkachuk was making the media rounds following the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off in February, appearing on 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon' and Jason and Travis Kelce's popular 'New Heights' podcast with his brother Brady. But the Stanley Cup-winning left winger for the Florida Panthers hasn't dressed for a game since suiting up for Team USA at the 4 Nations Tournament, when he left the championship game midway through the second period with an apparent groin injury. The Panthers are getting ready to defend their title when the Stanley Cup playoffs begin this weekend, and Tkachuk is hopeful that he'll be back on the ice with his teammates before long. 'It's been trending well,' Tkachuk said Monday. 'Recovery's never easy, but worth it in the end. So hopefully I can be back soon.' At the 4 Nations tournament, the Tkachuk brothers galvanized the sports and entertainment world far beyond the usual hockey spectrum. They were both combatants in the notorious three fights in nine seconds that kicked off the round-robin matchup between Team USA and their arch-rivals from Canada in Montreal. 'You don't realize it at the time," he said. 'But it kind of changes your life in a weird way. It's all people talked about — non-hockey people, and people across the country.' From that white-hot spotlight, Tkachuk's life shifted behind closed doors as he worked to get healthy in time for playoffs. 'It's brutal going from such a high to such a low,' he said. 'Long days and grueling days, so I'm happy to be towards the end of that right now. Just trying to be a positive cheerleader for the guys. You want to be on the bench or be on the ice, battling with them. I'll be in the room, strategizing, pumping them up. I watch all the games and give them as much feedback as I can.' While most of the key players from the Panthers' 2024 championship run have returned, Florida's roster has seen some changes. Ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, the Panthers added defenseman Seth Jones, then shocked the hockey world by acquiring longtime nemesis and former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand. 'Whenever you bring in guys like Brad and them, you see the belief that the organization's put in, that they believe in us,' Tkachuk said. 'Whenever you trade for guys of their caliber, the team believes that you have a chance to do it again. That gives us a ton of confidence.' This spring, Tkachuk and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar are also the faces of the 'Check In To Win' sweepstakes at Great Clips, the official hair salon of the NHL and the NHL Players' Association. From now through May 19, fans who download the Great Clips app and check in will be entered for a chance to see epic on-ice checks live from the stands at the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. Other prizes include gift cards for Great Clips and 'I love to work with them,' Tkachuk said. 'I love the way my hair looks, even though I'll be rockin' a new cut for playoffs, most likely, like I do every year. That's right around the corner, so looking forward to my Great Clips playoff cut from them.' In 2024, the Great Clips playoff cut took Tkachuk all the way to a Stanley Cup — a reality that topped even his loftiest childhood dreams. 'Your whole life flashes right in front of you,' he said. "You realize the work that you put in, and some of the the lows that you have to go through before winning. I think all the lows ultimately paid off at the end and you just feel this weight lifted off you, your goal and your dream coming true. The second that buzzer goes off, it's like, 'We did it!' It's just the most amazing feeling ever. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. It was 10 times better. So hopefully we can do it again.' For the third time in the last five years, Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers will begin their 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a first-round date against their cross-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Games will kick off Saturday, April 19, with exact schedule and TV details to be announced.

Birdland neighborhood on high alert after multiple incidents of vandalism
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — 'It's a weird feeling after living in the neighborhood for 30 something years and have something like this happen.' Birdland resident Keith Kingsley is just one of many unlucky residents living in a Birdland neighborhood off of Cardinal Road and Mockingbird, that is being repeatedly targeted by a vandal often seen traveling through the area and making a quick getaway on a small bike. 'He's a homeless [man] that lives in the neighborhood,' said Kingsley. Kingsley says the vandalism to neighbor's cars has been going on for weeks, and sometime between Friday and Monday two of his cars were targets. Group seeks tips after Mt. Soledad Open Space Preserve vandalized His neighbor's ring camera recorded one incident at Kingsley's house a few days ago, where the man can be seen pulling up on a small bike, picking up a rock, throwing it at Kingsley's car and riding away. 'The back window on my white car, and my truck he got the front window and the back,' said Kingsley. He says the man usually strikes at night, and according to neighbors on the Nextdoor app, at least 10 cars in the area have been vandalized. 'This was like $1600… It is frustrating because you got to make appointments at the body shop, get the car there, go pick it up. It's a lot of interruptions,' added Kingsley. Video shows man trash Great Clips after missing appointment in East County And the destruction doesn't stop at cars. Just across the street, Julia Lopez says the same man threw a rock at her next door neighbor's window, while a baby was sleeping on the other side. 'He's always walking down and up this street and purposefully aggravates the baby, and mocks the baby's cry… it's very sad,' said Birdland resident, Julia Lopez. Lopez says the rock was stopped from going into the room by the screen on the window, but the glass is still broken. She says her neighbor filed a police report with the San Diego Police Department, but they couldn't do much. 'They did and the police said they couldn't do anything unless he was physically doing something to them on her property,' added Lopez. Multiple Teslas found vandalized at Encinitas dealership Neighbors are left worrying whether their property will be the next target. Insurance agent, Nick Adamo, says there are a few important things you can do to protect property in a situation like this. 'That's the reason why insurance is going up like crazy, because of things like this. So you want to fortify your house, fortify your car, fortify everything you have,' said Adamo. Adamo says if your car is damaged, but still drivable, the best thing to do is get an estimate because it might be a better deal than filing a claim. As for houses, he recommends cameras as the first line of defense. 'As long as you have a camera that shows what's going on, then you have someone to put the liability on and you don't have to take the full brunt yourself,' said Adamo. For now, the neighbors in Birdland are watching and waiting. 'We're just always on the lookout,' said Lopez. We reached out to the San Diego Police Department for an update on the situation and are still waiting on a response. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Lucy Olsen stars in March Madness Great Clips commerical
Lucy Olsen stars in March Madness Great Clips commerical Iowa senior guard Lucy Olsen has morphed into a fan favorite during her abbreviated stint in Iowa City. A transfer from Villanova, Olsen arrived in the black and gold as the nation's No. 3 leading scorer from the season prior. The 5-foot-10 guard has been a star for Iowa all season long, guiding the Hawkeyes to a 23-10 (10-8 Big Ten) mark and a spot in the NCAA Tournament's second round. Olsen averages 17.8 points, 5.2 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 44.0% from the field, 35.2% from 3-point range and 73.9% from the charity stripe. The Collegeville, Pa., product has become synonymous not only for her great play, but also for the smile she wears from ear to ear while dicing opponents apart. As a bit of recognition for her star power, Olsen got the opportunity to team up with Great Clips for a March Madness advertisement. In the advertisement, Olsen is seen reporting live on the "greatest story from the tournament." No, it's not a buzzer-beater or an unexpected finish. Instead, it's Olsen's fresh new haircut. Olsen asks a Great Clips employee if they are responsible for the "greatness" that is her new haircut. "Yeah, you are. Is it going to look great on the court? Yeah, it will," Olsen says smiling. "Thank you. Lucy Olsen, greatest hair, signing off." In remarks ahead of the NCAA Tournament, Olsen discussed the experience of partnering with Great Clips. "I'm just happy I got to be a part of their company. They brought me in for a nice haircut. That was awesome. The team was great. It was right before the Big Ten Tournament. Got to feel good, look good, so then I could play good. Any fan can go and get $10 off and get their own haircut. Look good for watching March Madness. "In the next month, they can go to to go get that $10 coupon. They've just been a great partnership and I'm so happy that I'm working with them," Olsen said. As Olsen noted, fans can visit to get access to a coupon that customers can redeem for a $10 coupon on a haircut any time before April 4.
